An Qing had just stood up when An Yu suddenly grabbed her sleeve.
She turned her head in surprise and looked at the girl whose face showed almost no expression. Her heartbeat kicked back to life.
“You promised. Why are you suddenly going back on your word?”
Hearing the girl’s abrupt question, An Qing froze.
She stared at An Yu on instinct and saw her frown, clearly displeased.
This left An Qing even more at a loss. What was going on…?
She had assumed that if she left, An Yu would actually be happier.
After all, the two of them were not close. To An Yu, she was practically a stranger—maybe even an enemy.
Under those circumstances, why would An Yu stop her from leaving?
An Qing genuinely could not figure it out, no matter how hard she thought.
Although… she had never actually planned to walk away for good.
She had only wanted to find a quiet corner, avoid watching An Yu and Ning Dongli have fun, and stay by herself for a while.
The reason she would not leave was simple: she could not feel at ease about An Yu’s safety.
An Yu never seemed to care about her own well-being and could stir up trouble without even trying.
Just like those people earlier.
If she had not rushed over, that animal would have touched An Yu’s face.
No matter what, An Qing could not accept that.
So she would not leave; she would simply hide in a corner.
If An Yu ran into any more trouble, she could help right away and would not have to keep watching her interact with strange girls.
That was An Qing’s pure and straightforward plan.
Unfortunately, An Yu did not care about any of that.
All she knew was that An Qing had agreed to play with them.
She was not allowed to suddenly change her mind.
This reborn female lead was the worst!
She could break a promise the very next second.
An Yu lifted her head expressionlessly. Beneath the purple contact lenses, her amber-like eyes stared straight at An Qing.
For a moment, An Qing did not know what to say.
It seemed… An Yu always asked questions she could not possibly explain.
She could not very well admit that she wanted to leave alone because she could not stand watching An Yu get close to other people.
“An Qing?”
An Yu spoke softly, calling the girl’s name.
This was something An Qing had not noticed earlier.
She lowered her head on instinct and stared fixedly at the expressionless girl.
Because An Yu always wore that fearless, icy look, An Qing had almost forgotten… she was just an ordinary girl.
An Yu could feel fear too.
Even if An Yu herself might not realize it, she really was afraid.
She was afraid because of those random strangers.
An Qing suddenly understood why An Yu had stopped her.
It was not because An Yu had any special feelings toward her…
An Yu simply felt safe when she was around?
An Qing stood there stunned. Light returned to her eyes.
Although it was only her own guess, she was willing to believe it.
Otherwise… what hope was left in life?
“Mm.”
Even though she had no idea what An Qing was thinking, An Yu nodded silently and kept staring at her with those intense eyes.
She just had the feeling that she did not want An Qing to slip away.
At least not today. She did not know why.
Off to the side, Ning Dongli watched everything unfold.
She glanced first at the still-expressionless An Yu, then sneaked a look at An Qing, whose mood was obviously not great.
From the way they addressed each other, Ning Dongli could make a rough guess. An Qing… An Yu… they were probably relatives?
Maybe even the kind who lived together.
But the relationship seemed complicated; otherwise they would not act like strangers.
Still…
That girl named An Qing… was she…
Ning Dongli pressed her lips together and gave the girl beside her a slightly lost look.
She did not know if something was wrong with her, but ever since she realized she liked An Yu… it felt like the whole world had changed.
The way An Qing had looked at An Yu earlier somehow felt like…
Ning Dongli shook her head, deciding not to jump to conclusions.
It was too strange. How could there be so many…
“Gurgle~”
Ning Dongli swallowed and decided to keep observing quietly for a little longer.
She had no experience, but she had seen enough to know the signs. She could just copy what Ning Wanciu and she herself had done.
Ning Dongli made up her mind in secret, keeping it from everyone.
Before she could keep speculating about An Yu’s relationships, though… she realized she was a little hungry.
The whole incident with Lin Hao and the others had left her mentally and physically drained. Only when she checked her phone did she notice it was already almost afternoon.
Gurgle~
Sure enough, Ning Dongli was hungry.
Her stomach had started protesting loudly.
Ning Dongli’s face turned red. She lowered her head in embarrassment.
Unfortunately, An Yu had already heard it.
“Ning Dongli, are you hungry?”
She asked without any hesitation, as if a rumbling stomach was nothing to be ashamed of.
It was perfectly normal. When you were hungry, you ate.
“Mm…” Ning Dongli lifted her head with a flushed face, looked at the expressionless girl in front of her, and finally nodded in shame.
Even if she claimed she was not hungry, no one would believe her!
Her stomach had growled so loudly—how could she not be hungry!
An Yu stood up, still holding Ning Dongli’s hand, and extended the same invitation to the black-haired girl who had been quietly watching the show.
“Let’s go eat together.”
This time it was not a question but a straightforward invitation.
An Qing’s face remained cold. She blinked calmly, then nodded silently.
“Okay.”
An Yu gave a satisfied nod. She took one girl in each hand and left the lounge the convention staff had prepared for them.
Luckily, there were food stalls inside the venue, even if the prices looked painfully inflated.
“Let’s go.”
An Yu lifted her head slightly, glanced at both girls, and began the search for food.
Meanwhile, because it was already afternoon, Ning Wanciu was calmly eating lunch at Cheng Shimumeng’s house.
For the record, Cheng Shimumeng’s father had cooked, and he had clearly put a lot of effort into it.
Apparently because of Cheng Shimumeng’s warning, he had been holding back and had not dared to speak a word.
Ning Wanciu watched with twitching lips; his expression said everything…
Right now, Cheng Shimumeng no longer looked as awkward as before. The two of them had returned to her room.
She casually scrolled through her phone until something made her suddenly frown.
