‘Cancelled?’
Song Qiu-yu paused. The director acting this way was within her expectations.
After all, she was a newcomer, and now a controversial one.
If she were the director, she definitely wouldn’t use an actor like herself.
But if someone asked her if she was completely fine right now—that wasn’t true. She was indeed a little disappointed, a little wronged.
Even though the moment she started the live broadcast, she had already foreseen this outcome.
The room door was already open.
Jiang Xiao and her parents were looking over.
She didn’t hesitate too long, then decisively forced a pleasant smile onto her face.
“Okay, I understand. I’m sorry for causing you trouble, President.”
She spoke in a deliberately relaxed tone, said a few polite words, and hung up the phone.
Then she took a deep breath, managed her facial expression, and smiled brightly at the three people watching her.
“I’m ready. Jiang Xiao, let’s go on our date!”
“Yeah!”
Jiang Xiao had excellent hearing; he had already caught the content of the Drama Club President’s phone call.
He looked at the girl who was forcing a smile, but didn’t reopen her wounds. Instead, he went along with her words.
He quickly got up from the sofa, gave his clothes a final tidy. Even though he had already received several pointers from his future father-in-law and mother-in-law before his girlfriend came out, and had checked himself in the mirror several times, he dared not neglect anything.
Today’s date held great significance for them.
Thinking back to those comments from his future father-in-law and mother-in-law—like “Fix your hair like this, I guarantee it’ll stun our little treasure!” “Spray a bit more men’s cologne, that girl will be unable to resist!” “Apply a face mask, our little treasure only has eyes for you today!” “Want to put on some mascara? Make your lashes curl a bit more?”—he grew even more nervous.
Song Qiu-yu walked over on her own, hugged one of his arms, then turned back to her parents and said, “Dad, Mom, Jiang Xiao and I are going on our date!”
“Go, go. You two are allowed not to come home tonight!”
Su Luo and Song Zhao Ye said in unison.
“Uh…”
Song Qiu-yu’s neck and ears slowly flushed red. In her mind, an image of a tropical rainforest strewn with chaos popped up.
Well, since her parents had given permission, if she went out on a date and did nothing, it would seem a bit hard to justify.
But was it really what she was thinking?
Seeing his girlfriend’s neck as red as sunset clouds, Jiang Xiao couldn’t help but smirk. Whatever was on her mind was written all over her body.
“Then let’s go on our date.” Song Qiu-yu didn’t bother bantering with her parents any longer.
She quickly dragged Jiang Xiao out of their sight.
The time was seven in the evening.
The world outside was still exceptionally bright, as if it were still around four or five in the afternoon.
There was no chill in the air. There was a breeze, but it wasn’t cool.
Song Qiu-yu decisively took off her dark blue denim jacket and wrapped it around her slender waist.
The two jacket sleeves hung down like bunny ears.
Tied like that, it made the curves of her body more distinct, and the heave of her chest more noticeable.
She let out a breath, stole a glance at the person beside her, thought for a moment, then shuffled closer to him.
She flared her nostrils slightly, sniffing the unusual scent on him.
“Jiang Xiao, why do you smell so good today?”
She thought of a possibility.
Jiang Xiao had put on cologne.
Jiang Xiao admitted it.
Seeing this, Song Qiu-yu leaned in even closer to her boyfriend, unconsciously draped herself over him like a little animal, sniffing a few times.
Then her bright, spirited eyes lowered slightly, their color dimming.
She didn’t dislike the men’s cologne scent. It was mint, refreshing. But…
“What’s wrong? Don’t you like the cologne?”
Jiang Xiao panicked, seeing her mood drop.
“No.”
Song Qiu-yu’s cute little head shook left and right twice. She pouted slightly, looked up, and said pitifully, “I still prefer your original smell.”
“I see.”
Jiang Xiao cleared his throat twice, his heartbeat speeding up.
“Then I won’t use cologne anymore.”
“Yeah, don’t use it. Your original smell is really nice.”
Song Qiu-yu nodded firmly.
Then she made a strange “huh?” sound, tilted her face up, and stared at Jiang Xiao’s face, as if she had spotted something extremely rare on it.
“Huh? What now?”
Jiang Xiao looked at her with confusion.
Then he saw her blink, extend an index finger as pale as scallions, poke his cheek, and break into a sweet, smug smile, as if she had discovered something very fun.
“Jiang Xiao, you look really different today. Your face is like an egg, so soft. I want to take a bite!”
“Sure, go ahead.”
Jiang Xiao agreed readily.
Song Qiu-yu’s eyes widened in disbelief, but in a flash she grew wary, feeling that Jiang Xiao had a trick up his sleeve.
Sure enough, Jiang Xiao raised an eyebrow and said, “But in exchange, Xi’er has to let me take a bite too.”
“Then I won’t bite.”
Song Qiu-yu gave a light snort, grabbed the two bunny ears around her waist, and started to stride forward.
But Jiang Xiao was quick.
He grabbed her waist from behind, pulled her into his arms, then leaned in close to her tender cheek and opened his mouth.
“Wait, don’t—”
Her cheek was caught between his teeth. Song Qiu-yu’s mind buzzed. In the blink of an eye, she was blushing furiously.
They locked eyes.
She stood frozen, realizing a truth: one childish person isn’t scary, but when two childish people are dating, they shouldn’t do childish things casually, because—
Things would get out of hand.
“Mommy, why is that big brother biting that big sister’s face? Is he going to eat her?”
Suddenly, a child, holding a small white dog with his left hand and pointing at them with his right, said to the young mother beside him.
“Eep!”
Song Qiu-yu was startled.
She struggled in embarrassment, trying with all her might to pry Jiang Xiao’s arms off her waist.
Finding she couldn’t, she panicked and simply bit him back.
“Alright, alright. It’s okay. Be good, Xi’er, be good!”
Jiang Xiao rubbed her fluffy head, soothing her, then quickly whisked away his girlfriend, whose face was burning hot.
“Mommy, is that big sister okay? Should we call the police?”
The child’s puzzled voice still echoed in Song Qiu-yu’s ears.
Her thoughts were a mess, everything around her crowding together, but her attention was already fixed on Jiang Xiao’s broad, warm back in front of her.
And so, her scattered thoughts gradually coalesced around him.
When she came to, Jiang Xiao was holding her hand, walking shoulder to shoulder with her along a stone path strewn with ginkgo leaves.
There were quite a few people passing by.
She didn’t know them, but they seemed to already know her and Jiang Xiao.
“Look, aren’t those two…”
“Really!”
“Ooh, I knew they had something going on.”
“Such a handsome guy. Too bad.”
“Such a beautiful girl. Too bad.”
What’s too bad?
Song Qiu-yu tightened her grip on Jiang Xiao’s hand, turned her face to look at him, and, feeling the admiring glances directed at him, held his big hand even tighter.
Jiang Xiao was indeed dazzling enough, attractive enough. But now he had her as his girlfriend.
She would never give another woman a chance!
“Xi’er, hold on tighter, or else I might run away.”
Sensing what was on her mind, Jiang Xiao deliberately raised an eyebrow and said with a light laugh.
“Hmph.”
Song Qiu-yu bit her lip, hesitated for a long time, then strategically let go of Jiang Xiao’s hand.
Seeing that, Jiang Xiao had no choice but to sigh, take her hand again, and firmly hold it in his own.
He smiled at her, then examined her outfit for the day.
Overall, her technique still seemed a bit inexperienced, but he could see the effort she had put in.
She had worked so hard—undoubtedly for him, for this date, and also for herself.
As the saying goes, a woman makes herself beautiful for the one who delights in her.
Seeing his girlfriend so full of feminine awareness and girlfriend consciousness, he felt she was shining too brightly.
He couldn’t help but inhale sharply and instinctively pulled her quickly into a Western restaurant.
“Western food? Hmm… but I’d rather have malatang, Jiang Xiao.” She gently shook his arm, acting spoiled.
“For a first date, we need more ceremony. Tonight, we’re having Western food!”
Jiang Xiao wouldn’t back down.
He only wanted to make today’s Xi’er the happiest girl in the world.
Whatever other girls could have on dates, as long as he could give it, he would give it with all his might.
He wouldn’t let her regret being his girlfriend.
“Alright then, I’ll listen to you. But I don’t know how to cut steak. Will you cut it for me?”
Song Qiu-yu seemed to sense what he wanted to do.
She blushed, shook his arm even more vigorously, acting spoiled, and pressed her body closer to his.
“With pleasure.”
Jiang Xiao took the opportunity to lean close to her ear, then took her hand and said.
“I just said it casually. You actually know how?”
That ear was tickled hot and itchy by Jiang Xiao’s breath, even a little damp.
Song Qiu-yu bit her lip, suppressed the stir inside, and raised an eyebrow.
“Actually, I don’t. This is my first time eating steak too, but I can learn on the spot.”
Jiang Xiao’s smile deepened.
“Fine, fine. Anyway, cutting the steak is your job. I’m just here to eat!”
Laughing and chattering, Song Qiu-yu slowly tilted her little head to rest on his shoulder, blinking up at him like a cat.
Enjoying each other’s indulgence, both were a bit lightheaded. After ordering, they chatted about how to spend the rest of the day.
“How about we do it the usual way? Give each other three minutes to edit a list of things we want to do on the date on our phones. Then when time’s up, we’ll look at them together and pick one?”
Song Qiu-yu thought for a moment and suggested.
“Yeah.”
Jiang Xiao nodded, immediately opened his phone’s memo app, and started editing.
Song Qiu-yu also began editing.
As she typed, she couldn’t help raising her eyes a couple of times to look at her boyfriend across the table, utterly focused, lost in thought.
She wondered what Jiang Xiao’s list of things to do would include.
She looked back at her own phone memo, thought it over, then deleted all the naughty ideas and, with restraint, edited in some new ones.
Thus, three minutes were up.
“I’ll count down from three to one, and we’ll put our phones on the table together.”
Song Qiu-yu gripped her phone, very cautious.
“Please.”
Jiang Xiao said with a smile.
“You didn’t write anything weird, did you?”
Seeing Jiang Xiao so calm, Song Qiu-yu felt a little flustered and probed.
“Of course not. I’m being super serious today.”
Jiang Xiao said.
Hearing that, Song Qiu-yu swallowed nervously, even more flustered.
