“The anomalies you humans speak of, we among our kind call them evil. But the latter, the definition of evil is broader and more diverse—”
“Human organizations hostile to us, dark magical girls who have strayed from the path. And the supernatural phenomena they cause that endanger society—what you call anomalies—are all counted as evil.”
“In most cases, a magical girl’s main job is to resolve various emergencies caused by evil, protect citizens, and maintain social order.”
Under the joint explanations of Miao Ke and Ruibi, the two doll fairies, Wuhua had a crash course on the enemies of magical girls.
Despite her many things she didn’t understand, or perhaps she didn’t want to think too much from the start.
‘As long as they’re enemies, I’ll just knock them all down.’
With that thought, and the anticipation of being a magical girl for the first time, along with that small flutter in her heart—
Wuhua arrived at the destination of this anomaly, “Binhai Park,” one of the largest parks near the residential area.
Standing at the entrance, looking out, the tree-lined path paved with cobblestones stretched all the way. It led to places like basketball courts, tennis courts, and badminton courts—suitable for adults to exercise. Additionally, there were entertainment and fitness equipment for children and the elderly. Every so often, there were vending machines fully stocked with drinks and snacks, as well as benches and pavilions for resting. Since it was built along the river, you could also see clear water and a bridge to the other side…
“Huh? Come to think of it, why is everyone heading back?” Following her usual walking route, Wuhua plunged deep into the park.
And found that all the citizens who had come to play were hurriedly leaving in the direction behind her, as if the park were closing.
By the time Wuhua reached the bridge area, a relatively inner part of the park…
“…The northern area of Binhai Park has experienced an anomaly this afternoon. Please return immediately, all tourists, residents, and citizens planning to visit. Wait for instructions after professionals resolve the anomaly and the alarm. Safety is paramount.”
The loudspeakers on the streetlights were looping a similar audio. The direction toward the bridge was also cordoned off with yellow-black warning tape and traffic cones, forming a temporary cordon.
“It seems the situation is more serious than I thought,” Wuhua said, taking advantage of her petite figure to climb over the cordon and bypass it.
“Wuhua, danger could appear ahead at any moment. It’s better to transform early,” Ruibi reminded from the pocket.
“What Rabbit said is meow. It’s better to be ready to fight at any time, meow,” Miao Ke echoed.
“Since you both say so… let me find a spot.” Wuhua quickly looked around and walked toward a public restroom by the road.
“Oh, wait. It’s the women’s restroom.” She turned back before instinctively walking into the men’s room.
…
…
.
The magical girl in a black-and-white Lolita dress, with sparkling pearl-like earrings and silver twin-tails—transformed Wuhua—picked up her skirt and walked quickly through the empty park.
“It’s such a hassle, this outfit,” she complained a second ago, but soon spotted her target. “Found it!”
It was an anomaly with the appearance and shape of a gingerbread man, its dark body about three meters tall. It had thick limbs and heavy armor, moving quite slowly.
It was wandering alone on the main road, as if searching for something. The moment Wuhua made eye contact with it, its eyes flashed a crimson red.
“Kid, come… play with me.”
The strange sound suddenly emitted was so low it was questionable where it came from. Though the tone was inviting, it exuded an eerie atmosphere.
“Tsk, what a creepy guy. Let’s finish it quickly.” With a sense of physical disgust, Wuhua crouched down, ready and eager—
After transforming, her body felt as if it had endless energy and stamina.
“Wuhua, this is your first battle, be careful,” Ruibi warned while beginning to analyze the anomaly before them.
But the other wouldn’t give it a chance, continuously advancing toward Wuhua.
“Try this!” To avoid falling behind, Wuhua struck first. She lunged forward with a step and punched the gingerbread man’s body.
On contact, she could see its body, like rubber under impact, sink in significantly.
“This feeling, something’s off,” Wuhua said, quickly stepping back several paces to avoid being stuck.
Just as she predicted, the gingerbread man’s body quickly rebounded to its original shape due to elasticity.
“Normal attacks seem useless, meow. You need to use Miracle Power, meow,” Miao Ke reminded.
“So, that Miracle Power? How do I use it?” As the two were talking, the gingerbread man charged, trying to grab the agile Wuhua.
Fortunately, she was on guard and retreated in time, maintaining a safe distance. Looking closely, the ground where she stood a second ago had been impacted, denting several centimeters.
‘This monster’s defense is absurdly high, but its slowness is a weakness.’
‘If this continues, it’ll be a stalemate where neither side can do anything to the other.’
Call it useless knowledge that finally came in handy. Wuhua analyzed the anomaly’s weakness faster than the two fairies and exploited it. She dodged repeatedly, not letting it touch a single hair.
“Whew. My body feels so light, like the Earth lost gravity. What’s going on? This is amazing,” Wuhua marveled. She had never had such a wondrous experience.
“This is just a part of a magical girl’s Miracle Power. Wuhua, try to feel it. I believe you can do it.”
Ruibi answered vaguely. Or rather, it didn’t know how to explain it to Wuhua.
“Alright, I can only try in this situation.” Stepping back to a safe distance, Wuhua closed her eyes, trying to unearth the miraculous power within.
‘If close-range attacks don’t work, would long-range be better?’
‘Or maybe I should pull out a weapon… I’ve seen other magical girls have similar things.’
‘Swords? Too ordinary. Crossbow? Seems lacking.’
‘What about this…’
Opening her eyes again, a weapon appeared in her hand that didn’t resemble any model or specification, without any decoration or paint. But at first glance, it looked like a “handgun,” and Wuhua thought so too.
“No way, it actually appeared. Can this really be used?” Wuhua inspected the weapon in her hand, but hesitated to pull the trigger.
“Hmm, a firearm for your first summon, meow. Could you be a violent girl, meow?”
“As long as it can defeat the enemy, it’s a good weapon. Well done, my contractor.”
The two dolls didn’t seem surprised, commenting unabashedly.
“…I feel like using this makes me not look like a magical girl at all. I thought something like a magic wand would appear.”
Before Wuhua could get used to holding a gun while wearing a Lolita dress, the gingerbread man charged at her again.
“Tsk. Interrupting someone’s conversation is not good manners.” As she spoke, Wuhua aimed in its direction and quickly pressed the trigger.
A firing pin sound rang out, but no bullet appeared.
“It’s useless!?” Wuhua was a bit flustered, but managed to dodge thanks to her speed advantage.
“You can try imagining the energy inside you as ammunition, meow. Xiao Lan, who uses a bow, told me that, meow,” Miao Ke reminded.
“Sister Qinglan? Okay, I’ll try…” Awkwardly, Wuhua ejected the magazine from the handgun and held it in her palm. She tried to imagine the shape and weight of bullets in her mind.
When the weight in her hand grew heavy, she reloaded and used her left hand to pull the slide to chamber a round.
“Take this!”
She pulled the trigger repeatedly, and translucent bullets poured out.
Upon hitting the gingerbread man’s body, they tore huge holes into it. And as the number increased, it completely dissipated before Wuhua’s eyes.
