When a human is tricked by a demon to the point of losing even their soul, the demon will directly devour that human’s soul and take over, ultimately turning them into a temporary vessel for the demon to disguise itself.
Therefore, within the Underground Ruins of Thousand Lake City, most demons appear as demonized humans.
Moreover, demons with temporary vessels mock those without:
“Seriously? You can’t even trick a common human? How badly are you doing? At least go trick a kid!”
A demonized young man with pitch-black eyes and a twisted gray horn on his forehead sneered at Truth, who was in the form of a Blood Demon.
Once a human becomes a demon vessel, the injured part of their body at the moment of death becomes demonized, sprouting all kinds of bizarre demonic features.
Truth had already revealed her true form, and she had also limited her shape and power to the Four Rank, resulting in her current appearance as a twisted, blood-colored slug-cat.
She had intended to blend in and come to the nearest tavern to gather some useful information, but unexpectedly, this tavern seemed to be some sort of high-class establishment, allowing only high-ranking demons to enter.
As the saying goes, clothes make the man—demons of high status often possess very young human vessels to use human utensils.
Thus, the demons in the tavern mostly appeared as young humans between eighteen and thirty, making Truth, a primal demon, very out of place.
“Everyone is dressed in suits and ties, why are you running around naked?”
“What, can’t I stay here if I don’t cosplay as a human?”
Truth asked coldly, casually scanning the demon before her with a detection skill, discovering it was just a Third Rank Piercing Demon with high attack but paper defense.
“Sorry, we’re not targeting you.” Then, a bartender wearing a server’s uniform and covered in scales said to Truth: “All the tableware in the tavern is in human style. Without a human vessel, how will you hold the knife and fork? With your little claws that can only scratch?”
As he spoke, the bartender raised his right hand and wiggled his index and middle fingers, as if mimicking Truth’s claws.
“Hahaha!” For a moment, the tavern was filled with cheerful laughter.
Generally, the higher a demon’s rank, the more attack methods it can use, while low-level demons can only use their claws, very monotonous.
The bartender was mocking Truth, a low-level demon, for being ungrateful enough to dare enter the most high-class demon tavern in the entire Southern Marshes.
“Fine, fine, fine…”
Having just arrived, before figuring out if any powerful demons or good stuff were hidden here, Truth planned to avoid causing trouble for now, intending to flatten the place when she was ready to leave.
So Truth’s body began to writhe and gradually transform into a little human girl.
‘It’s just a human form, huh? Heh, compared to you low-level demons, I come with my own human form!’
But just as Truth was hesitating over which hair color to choose, the Piercing Demon’s mocking voice reached her ears again:
“Hahaha, this slug actually tricked a little girl into being a vessel!”
“Everyone else’s vessels are sturdy young humans, but you ended up with a little girl who hasn’t even developed yet? Can your intelligence only barely trick little human girls?”
Once again, the tavern was filled with cheerful laughter.
But this time, the demons’ laughter was cut short halfway…
“Khaa!”
A low, painful cry of shock suddenly interrupted the laughter of all the demons present.
They instinctively looked toward Truth’s position and saw the Piercing Demon trembling all over, staring at its own abdomen with a face of both shock and terror.
A two-meter-long blood-red blade had pierced straight through its entire abdomen, and blood began to flow down its lower body to the ground.
And whether by coincidence or not, the Piercing Demon’s Demon Core, located in the abdomen of its human vessel, had also been stabbed, nearly emptying its Health Bar from this sudden strike.
“You…” The Piercing Demon struggled to lift its head toward Truth, who had attacked it, and saw that Truth had canceled her human form, directly transforming her true body into a Blood Blade to strike it.
“I was going to try to back off and see if I could avoid trouble, but in the end, I still have to use my fists to teach you lowly creatures respect!”
Truth was a bit angry. She hadn’t wanted to cause such a commotion, but constantly backing down wasn’t in her nature.
Without giving the Piercing Demon a chance to beg for mercy, Truth sharply raised the Blood Blade, shattering the Piercing Demon’s core while simultaneously splitting its body along with its human vessel’s upper half vertically into two halves. The scene was extremely bloody.
Truth killed the Piercing Demon on the spot.
Although the demons were used to bloody scenes, they were used to human bloodshed.
Now that a fellow living demon had died right in front of them, it was impossible not to be afraid.
In this demon settlement, the last unauthorized act of violence happened five years ago.
According to the rules, demons should settle disputes in the Arena, or else it would cause public outrage, and the great demon Balisi would also unleash his wrath!
But unfortunately, not a single demon present dared to attack Truth, let alone condemn her.
They didn’t even dare to look at her. Pretending to drink tea nonchalantly was their last act of stubbornness.
The reason was simple: Truth could instantly kill a Piercing Demon of similar level to them, and she could also conjure weapons out of thin air from her body.
This meant Truth was above them in both level and race!
As Blood Demons increase in level, the weapons they can conjure also multiply, starting from Blood Claws, then Blood Scythes, Blood Lances, Blood Blades, and even Blood Kalashnikovs…
Unlike other Assassins with monotonous fighting styles, the Blessing skill “Hundred Arms Metamorphosis” destined Blood Demons to be natural weapon masters, greatly raising their upper combat potential in direct confrontation.
“Now, as for you, what did you say just now? Are you interested in my little claws?”
Truth stepped through the Piercing Demon’s corpse and slowly approached the bartender at the counter.
Her four dark-red eyes stared fixedly at him, ready to strike, while on her body a pair of terrifyingly slender foreclaws rapidly materialized…
The bartender, as if facing a great enemy, immediately spread the huge moth wings behind his back to create distance.
But Truth used a Flash Step to appear right behind him, her claws viciously plunging into the roots of the bartender’s moth wings!
All of this happened in just 0.2 seconds. When the others reacted, the bartender’s screams of pain were already echoing throughout the tavern:
“Aaaah! Lord Jialade, Lord Jialade, save me!”
The bartender’s cries were heart-wrenching, even causing passing demons at the tavern entrance to pause out of curiosity to watch the drama.
Fortunately, the Arena’s deathmatches in progress were more attractive, so the passing demons didn’t linger long and left, completely indifferent:
“Tch, if you want to fight, do it in the Arena. How can I place bets if it’s outside?”
Inside the tavern, Truth did not cover the bartender’s mouth. Instead, she used one of her claws to trace a bloody line across his throat.
With just a bit more pressure, blood would gush out from it.
“Like my little claws?”
Although the cut was only on the human vessel’s neck, the demon inside the vessel was so terrified it almost stopped breathing.
This was the first time in all its years working here that it had encountered such an arrogant demon!
Fortunately, the bartender’s earlier cries for help had an effect.
“Fellow Blood Demon, please do me a favor and spare his life.”
At a round table deeper in the tavern, a middle-aged man dressed in luxurious clothing spoke courteously to Truth.
There were hardly any traces of demonization on his body.
“Great, Lord Jialade has finally stepped in!”
“This bastard dares to openly defy the rules here! Absolutely lawless!”
“This slug demon is in for it now! Hopefully they throw it straight into the Arena for a round-robin deathmatch!”
The demons around, who dared not denounce Truth directly, whispered among themselves.
The middle-aged man called Jialade took a sip of tea and continued speaking methodically:
“Please understand their impertinence. After all, Blood Demons are so rare that these lowly species have forgotten the gap between them and you. Please calm down and come sit with me.”
After he spoke, the three young demons around him tactfully left, giving their seats to Truth.
“Ho?” Truth sized him up, then released the bartender and used another Flash Step to appear on the round table in front of him, looking down at him.
“Good.” The middle-aged man took another sip of tea, looking completely in control. Meanwhile, the bartender at the counter heaved a long sigh of relief…
‘Phew, finally saved.’
However, the next second, several deep red flashes of blood burst from the bartender’s body, followed by a surge of excruciating pain throughout his entire body!
“Lord Jialade…” The bartender clutched his stomach in pain, lying on the counter, looking at the middle-aged man called Jialade with pleading eyes.
But unfortunately, before he could cry for help again, his entire body went bang as it swelled and exploded, spattering murky blood and flesh across the entire counter.
The bartender was instantly killed by Truth using Delayed Slash.
“You!”
Jialade gritted his teeth and glared at Truth. ‘This bastard actually dared to disregard my face!’
Then Truth flicked her claw dismissively, causing the scalding tea in Jialade’s hand to splash directly onto his face:
“Stop pretending, you bastard!”
