“Hey hey, Old Xu—no, Gangster Xu, you’re not some super hidden old geezer who learned the secret art of rejuvenation early on and came back to experience college life again? The Dragon King returns and acts cool—I like reading that kind of story.” Yang Shuli howled for a bit, then started gesturing with her hands.
“Or maybe you’re some Heavenly Emperor who broke the barrier of the celestial realm, not seeking to stir up waves, only wanting a place to settle down in this mortal world—farming novels, I like those too.”
Xu Nian thought it over and shook his head. “You seem to be thinking too much.”
“At the very least, you should be a reincarnator—having gone through everything and being reborn, vowing to take back everything that belongs to you.” Yang Shuli jumped over to Xu Nian’s side. “Then did you stock up on a lot of Bitcoin back then? Why didn’t you call me?”
“I didn’t even know you back then,” Xu Nian said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “And I didn’t stock up on Bitcoin.”
“What? So you’re nothing? Then you’re really disappointing.” Yang Shuli curled her lip. “Nowadays no one believes in working hard on their own. Everyone hopes their good buddy suddenly becomes a rich second generation and dumps dozens of properties in front of them. Then they can lie back and collect rent for the rest of their lives.”
Just thinking about it made Yang Shuli feel pretty damn good.
“Then I can require every tenant to cook for me. When I go collect rent, I’ll just bring my chopsticks. Whoever cooks badly, I’ll raise their rent.”
It seemed Yang Shuli had accidentally turned into the kind of person she hated most in her fantasies.
“Sorry to disappoint you, I’m not a rich second generation.” Xu Nian rubbed Yang Shuli’s head.
He was a first-generation rich kid.
He didn’t have dozens of properties, but he had over ten.
“It’s okay, I’m not a rich second generation either.” Yang Shuli grinned. “So that makes us even.”
But Yang Shuli wasn’t actually stupid. “You seem pretty rich, and you’re not a rich second generation. Do gangsters really make that much money? I thought gangsters were starving three days out of nine?”
Then Yang Kid, as if suddenly remembering something, spoke up. “I get it. Gangsters can make money too.”
She took out her phone and asked Xu Nian, “Here, tell me your Kuaishou account name, and I won’t tell anyone else.”
Xu Nian gave a helpless smile.
“Or are you going to show me your income method now?” Yang Shuli was stunned for a moment. “Alright, actually I have some expertise in this area. I’ve appreciated all kinds of dance moves—as long as they’re not too rustic, I can understand them.”
“My limbs aren’t that flexible, and I don’t really know how to dance,” Xu Nian said, lightly tapping Yang Shuli’s head. “I’m not a gangster. Just think of me as someone who went all-in on stocks and became rich overnight.”
“Wow, a gambler.” Upon hearing this, Yang Shuli immediately took two steps away from Xu Nian.
“Actually, you don’t have to take it that literally.” Xu Nian beckoned, and Yang Shuli came back to his side. “Is there anything else you want to eat?”
Xu Nian asked Yang Shuli.
The two had just finished eating and were on their way back when they ran into Ye Qingchang. Otherwise, they’d probably be back in the dorms by now.
“No. Why do you always ask that? Are you treating me like a pig?” Yang Shuli put her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest, and stared Xu Nian down.
But Xu Nian wasn’t affected by the pressure. “Raising a little pig wouldn’t be bad.”
Then Yang Shuli would lower her head and charge, using her head to push against Xu Nian’s lower back.
Xu Nian would steer the direction so that they both headed toward the school.
After a while, Yang Shuli suddenly stopped.
Xu Nian noticed the force against his back had disappeared and turned around.
Probably Yang Shuli was tired, out of energy.
You can’t expect a kid to have great endurance for this kind of thing.
“I think I have a package arriving.” Yang Shuli looked at the text message on her phone.
“Bought more snacks?” Xu Nian said. “Be careful with those cheap bulk packs online—you might get diarrhea.”
“I don’t remember buying anything, though.”
Yang Shuli scratched her head. “Ah, forget it. I’ll probably have a sudden realization when I get the package.”
Packages she hadn’t cared about for a long time were like this—when they arrived, she’d find it a bit strange, and only when she held them would she suddenly wake up.
Oh, so I bought this thing.
And then memories of the payment screen would surface.
That’s all she could remember.
“Just go back first. I’ll go out and get the package. The pickup station is still the one off campus.” Yang Shuli waved at Xu Nian and skipped back out the school gate.
—
Yang Shuli suddenly felt like she was passing by the door three times without going in.
Xu Nian stayed where he was, still with that gentle smile, waving at Yang Shuli.
This kind of thing happening to Yang Shuli was pretty normal.
After all, she often lost things. She could have a spoon in her mouth while grabbing Xu Nian’s ice cream spoon, and only afterward realize that Xu Nian hadn’t stolen her spoon.
Yang Shuli’s brain was in a quantum entanglement state, also involving Murphy’s law. When you thought her brain was there, it usually wasn’t; when you thought her brain wasn’t there, she could find a place you never noticed to trip you up.
“It couldn’t be that my Second or Third used my phone number to buy something that needs confidential shipping, could it?”
Yang Shuli walked toward the off-campus pickup station, thinking about it and finding it plausible.
Ye Qingchang and Liu Xie seemed like the kind of people who could easily do such a heartless thing.
Thinking that, Yang Shuli became a bit afraid to go to the pickup station.
Hey, wait. Even if it really was something human-shaped that needed confidential shipping, she could just yell when picking it up: “Such a treasure! I, Zhu Niao, really like it!”
That way, wouldn’t Zhu Niao be the one embarrassed?
Decided. Act.
Her skipping steps toward the pickup station became even lighter.
Then, Yang Shuli noticed a sign that shouldn’t exist at the off-campus pickup station now.
“Students with pickup codes starting with letters, follow this road…”
Yang Shuli looked down at the pickup code in her phone message. It was indeed a letter.
Right, this pickup station always used numbers for sorting, didn’t it?
Yang Shuli only realized that now.
Alright, let’s go. Maybe it’s because Double Eleven is coming, and they’re afraid the packages won’t fit, so they set up a separate station.
She walked deeper into the small path that looked somewhat desolate and far from the noise.
Behind her, the sign was pulled out again.
“Is it her?”
“It is. Hurry up.”
“Bro, are you serious? This is right in the city.”
“We don’t have to do anything. That woman said just deliver the person. Why do you care so much?”
