After some discussion, the rescue team finally settled on a plan.
“These aquatic ruin beasts are very sensitive to the smell of blood, so the rest of you will clear the passage while one person with a wound charges into the underground river to lure the beasts in. The others will then seal the river with all their strength,” Fei Ling said.
“I can handle luring the beasts.”
“No need for that,” Jiang Ke’er said. She flipped her hand and produced a stack of paper effigies from somewhere.
“Let the paper effigies do the luring.”
Fei Ling and the rest of the rescue team stared blankly at Jiang Ke’er—substitute paper effigies were incredibly expensive!
A single paper effigy cost at least ten thousand Magic Crystals, and what were they seeing? A thick stack in Jiang Ke’er’s hand!
‘Damn, is Senior’s main job actually drawing paper effigies?’
Jiang Ke’er knew paper effigies were expensive, but she was tired of tragic sacrifices.
If she could trade money for lives, she felt it was worth it…
Besides, she had plenty of money.
“Don’t worry. As a member of the Bu family, any problem that can be solved with money isn’t a problem.”
Jiang Ke’er infused Spiritual Power into the paper effigies, raised her hand, and tossed them. With a series of bangs, over twenty paper effigies transformed into replicas of her.
Then she pulled out a basin of duck blood meant for hotpot and a basin of pig blood meant for pickled cabbage stew from her Inventory, and poured them evenly over all the paper effigies.
She pressed her fingers together in a gesture.
“Let’s go~”
The paper effigies, drenched in red, were as agile as Jiang Ke’er herself.
Although they had no offensive power, their speed was no different from hers.
They successfully attracted the attention of the ruin beasts and weaved safely through the Xuchao.
Fei Ling’s expression changed. “Senior! Too early! We haven’t cleared the passage yet!”
Jiang Ke’er smiled faintly. “It’s fine.”
With the combined effort of over twenty paper effigies, the ruin beasts were quickly gathered together.
A flash of sword light passed by.
The Vast Righteous Sword Qi struck first, cutting a deep canyon into the ground as easily as slicing tofu.
Below the canyon, the raging currents of the underground river roared. The water was about to surge out, but a gust of wind from above pressed it down!
“Roar—”
The ruin beasts screamed miserably as the wind mercilessly swept them underground, one after another, not a single one escaping.
Once all the aquatic ruin beasts had been driven away, Jiang Ke’er casually slashed out two more Sword Qi.
A triangular section on one side of the deep canyon was severed, sliding down with a rumble toward the other side.
With a loud crash as the ground closed, the ruin beasts were sealed underground once more.
“All right, next.” Jiang Ke’er smiled and flew off first toward the return route.
Huh? That was it?
Whether it was the rescue team or those being rescued, everyone felt like what had just happened was a bit unreal.
Fei Ling had already prepared to sacrifice his life, and the rescue team had even been shrouded in a tragic atmosphere.
Then, it was over.
Looking up at Jiang Ke’er’s retreating figure, Fei Ling’s emotions were complicated, a trace of admiration flickering in his eyes.
“What are you standing around for? Hurry up and follow Senior Bu!”
The rescue team completed the most difficult mission in record time.
By the time they returned to Dongming City, the rescue team actually felt an unprecedented sense of leisure—the next mission hadn’t even appeared yet. For the first time in their lives, they completed a mission faster than events could occur.
“So strong.”
Fei Ling was still in a state of shock while writing the mission report.
Just then, the “High-Risk Emergency Response Unit” happened to finish their own mission and was taking a break in Dongming City. They noticed the mission report Fei Ling was writing.
“Groundwater aquatic ruin beasts surfacing… Yikes! Over five hundred?! That’s even fiercer than our side!” the unit leader exclaimed.
“We weren’t here—how did a small rescue team like yours handle that?”
Fei Ling adjusted his glasses and said succinctly, “We rode the coattails of a senior.”
“It took us five days just to lure the ruin beasts back, and three people died. How long did you take?” The unit leader frowned.
“And your rescue team only has so few people—there’s no way you could handle such a high-risk incident… Something’s off. You’re not making this up, are you? That’s a huge taboo!”
“We took… less than an hour, and that includes travel time,” Fei Ling said, glancing at the unit leader. He tossed him a Crystal.
“We recorded the rescue process. Go watch it.”
The unit leader couldn’t wait to get back to his team, activated the Crystal impatiently, and called the rest of his team to try to debunk it.
Three minutes later.
“Damn!!!”
A chorus of identical exclamations came from the response unit.
“What kind of immortal is this? When did the Realm of No Regret get such an immortal? That Sword Qi, that Money Power…”
Soon, the unit leader ran back to return the Crystal.
Fei Ling glanced up at him. “What’s wrong with your eyes? They’re almost popping out of your head. Push them back in.”
“Th-this…” The unit leader stiffly handed back the Crystal, then suddenly shivered and whispered hesitantly, “Jiang Ke’er? Qing Yi?”
“No, it’s Senior Bu. Remember to call her Senior Bu,” Fei Ling said solemnly.
“Can I get a senior like that too…”
“No.”
About half an hour later, the rescue team finally received a new distress call.
“It’s near Lingyue City, about twelve hours’ travel from here,” Fei Ling said, standing up and putting away his notebook as he called all the rescue team members together.
“But the problem is, it’s almost dark now. We either travel through the night, or we reach Lingyue City tomorrow evening and only carry out the rescue mission the morning after.”
“Is it urgent over there?”
“It’s not urgent yet—they’ve found a safe shelter, but…” Fei Ling hesitated.
“That area is a border zone between two Xu Gods. They could be attacked by one or even both Xu Gods at any time. If we delay until the morning after, their chances of survival are slim.”
“I’ll go,” Jiang Ke’er said decisively.
“I don’t recommend that,” Fei Ling said sternly.
“Senior, I’m afraid you lack understanding of the Realm of No Regret’s nights… The dangers at night are even greater than facing a Xu God. You’re joking with your own life.”
“I don’t want to joke with my life either, but I think this risk is worth taking,” Jiang Ke’er said.
“Senior, forgive my bluntness, but you’re injured.”
Jiang Ke’er was silent for a moment. She was indeed not at full strength now, and traveling rashly at night would be unwise.
She wasn’t the kind of good person who would sacrifice her life for strangers, especially if those strangers had likely gotten themselves into trouble.
“From a cost-benefit perspective, this is also very unwise. You can’t joke with your life. Anyone can die, but you can’t… You have to think about the whole clan,” Fei Ling continued to persuade.
“No, I have to go take a look, or I’ll feel uneasy,” Jiang Ke’er said, shaking her head.
Fei Ling sighed, as if he understood something.
“Senior, do you have someone important missing in the Realm of No Regret?”
“No.”
“Really?”
“No,” Jiang Ke’er said coldly. “Stop asking so many questions. Just tell me how to get to Lingyue City.”
