“Stop stop stop!” Bai Tang cried out in alarm.
If you’re begging for mercy, then beg properly! Why were the tentacles suddenly reaching down below her waist! They were still outside!
The tentacle demon was stunned by Bai Tang. It froze in fear, its slippery tentacles trembling in mid-air.
It waited timidly for what she would say next.
Staring at the black cat corpse in front of her, flies and mosquitoes had already begun swarming around it in just a moment, giving off waves of stench.
Bai Tang pondered.
The original host was already dead. If the Parasitic Demon left her body, it would die. No matter how she tried to drive it away, it wouldn’t leave. She couldn’t really drink that potion and go down together with it!
That would be dying way too recklessly.
She had no idea whether the Witch teacher had any way to separate her from the Parasitic Demon, but right now it seemed the only option was to coexist for the time being.
A spark of inspiration flashed through Bai Tang’s mind. She cleared her throat.
“Ahem… You don’t want to die, right?”
The Parasitic Demon’s tentacles waved frantically.
“Very good. Looks like you understand the situation. Right now you need something from me, and I only have two paths for you to choose from.”
The girl raised one finger.
“First option: since you refuse to leave my body, I’ll just drink the potion. The dose is exactly enough to kill one of us. We’ll see who lasts longer. Either you die from the potion first and I survive as a cripple, or I succumb to the poison and you die a minute later from losing your host.”
“Second option: we stay locked like this until the Pig-Head Man finds us!”
“And… then we both get killed?”
“No.” Bai Tang shook her head, her expression deadly serious. “With the Witch teacher backing me, I might not die. But you definitely will.”
Joke’s on you—she was an expert at borrowing someone else’s authority. Even if it might not work against a raging Pig-Head Man, scaring a cowardly Parasitic Demon was no problem at all.
“Why do I have to die no matter what option I pick?!” the Parasitic Demon complained wildly.
She had no idea what kind of background that Witch teacher the human mentioned actually had, but just the sound of it made the threat feel rock-solid!
Wasn’t this just some measly human?
Where on earth did she get such a terrifying backer?! Had she made a huge mistake by latching onto this person from the very beginning?
“Otherwise?”
Bai Tang spread her hands.
“Who told you to scheme against me?”
Seeing the Parasitic Demon’s resigned expression, Bai Tang knew it was finally time to talk cooperation.
“But if you really don’t want to die, there is one more way.”
“What wa—”
“Who’s out there? Get out!”
Just as a glimmer of hope for survival had ignited, the Pig-Head Man’s rough voice suddenly boomed from afar. He had finally noticed that two uninvited little rats had snuck into his slaughterhouse.
Heavy footsteps drew closer. Bai Tang’s heart leaped into her throat.
Because the Parasitic Demon was currently in a half-parasitic state with her, communication no longer required words. Bai Tang’s next move was transmitted directly through their shared nerves a split second in advance.
“If you want to live, there’s one last option,” Bai Tang whispered.
She didn’t need to say anything more. The Parasitic Demon already understood the girl’s plan—her tentacles, or rather her entire being, were being invaded and taken over by the other party’s spiritual power at the point where the tentacles connected to the spine.
Completely unlike her cute and harmless appearance, this human girl had no intention of letting her parasitize. Instead, she wanted to control her!
Should she hand it over?
If she didn’t follow the human’s wishes, the only thing waiting for her was death. But if she surrendered control of her tentacles, getting it back later would be nearly impossible.
If the original parasitism had been a forced equality between the two sides, then handing over control of the tentacles was no different from willingly abandoning a Parasitic Demon’s dignity and becoming nothing more than an extension of the human’s body.
The Parasitic Demon hesitated.
The distance between them and the Pig-Head Man was shrinking fast. Bai Tang’s expression turned completely cold.
“I won’t let you off. From the moment you misjudged me as easier prey than the Pig-Head Man and chose to attack me, we became enemies.”
“But right now you have no choice, do you?”
Of course sweet talk would have made things easier, but Bai Tang could never bring herself to lie and say something like, “After we team up to deal with the Pig-Head Man, I’ll let you go.”
Since the creature had attacked her, it should have been prepared to pay the price for failure.
“I…”
The Parasitic Demon’s will gradually wavered.
That was right. How could a human girl who could walk freely on Undead Street truly be a saint who repaid evil with kindness? Without her own ruthlessness, she would have been devoured by malicious bizarre creatures long ago, bones and all.
The truth was, the only soft part of this human girl she had chosen to parasitize was her appearance.
They were already enemies.
If she refused to hand over control of the tentacles, she would die immediately.
Even if she did hand it over and they successfully dealt with the Pig-Head Man together, the other party would still kill her without mercy afterward.
The only difference was that by teaming up to eliminate the immediate threat of the Pig-Head Man, she would gain more time—time to find a faint hope of survival on her own instead of relying on the human’s mercy!
The Parasitic Demon made its decision and released control of the tentacles.
Sensing the Parasitic Demon drop its resistance, Bai Tang’s eyes lit up.
The tentacles that had been tightly wrapped around her body under the Parasitic Demon’s control slowly loosened and now obeyed her commands completely, moving as naturally as her own limbs.
“Looks like you’re still pretty smart!”
At the same time.
The Pig-Head Man’s footsteps arrived right in front of them. He narrowed his eyes, raised a massive hand, and smashed aside the only obstacle between him and Bai Tang—the meat-drying rack loaded with hanging carcasses.
“Get out here!”
Pure, raw violence. The iron drying rack couldn’t withstand even a second of the Pig-Head Man’s slap and instantly collapsed.
Yet when the cloud of dust settled, there was no sign of Bai Tang.
Only the corpse of a black cat that looked long dead lay quietly on the ground ahead.
“A dead cat?”
Whoosh—!
Tentacles shot out from the shadows like lightning, carrying a howling gale. They snaked forward with terrifying agility, aiming straight for the Pig-Head Man’s head and giving him no time to react.
The Pig-Head Man’s pupils shrank violently. He stepped back quickly while swinging his blood-stained butcher knife with his right hand, severing the pitch-black tentacle just before it could pierce his eye socket.
The sneak attack failed. The injured tentacle retracted at once. The severed piece fell to the ground, twisting and struggling for a moment before it lost all vitality and melted into a puddle of sticky black sludge.
“Who’s there?!” the Pig-Head Man roared in fury.
In response, even more attacks surged toward him from every direction.
