Time passed in the blink of an eye, and two days had gone by.
Thanks to the witch teacher’s regular changes of medicine, Bai Tang’s injuries had healed about seventy or eighty percent. The closed wounds had left no scars on her skin, and her most severely injured arms could now move freely.
These two days of the general store being closed for repairs had also been the most relaxed period Bai Tang had experienced since transmigrating to this world.
She no longer had to worry about bizarre creatures that might show up at any moment and try to eat her. Aside from the routine cleaning of the store, when she had free time she would simply sprawl across the counter and nap, or help the witch teacher who was busy brewing potions.
All in all, they were light tasks that did not drain much mental energy and could be finished with ease.
Yet even these seemingly simple chores had quietly filled up her experience bar.
Long Night, inside the witch teacher’s bedroom at the general store.
“Bai Tang, I’m heading out for a bit. Remember—not to open the door for anyone, including me.”
The witch teacher’s instructions came from outside the door.
“Got it, Teacher!”
Bai Tang lay in bed, poking her head out from under the covers and craning her neck to reply. She stayed like that until the footsteps outside gradually faded and finally disappeared completely.
Only then did the girl snap back to reality. She pushed herself up into a sitting position.
“Haah~”
A sigh filled with all kinds of complicated emotions echoed through the empty room.
“Teacher’s going out again tonight? This is already the third night in a row.”
Bai Tang was certain that this world must be subtly influencing her thoughts in certain ways, making her sometimes unable to stop herself from thinking about things she would never have dared to consider back on Earth.
To be honest, two days ago when the witch teacher had offered to temporarily give up her room so Bai Tang could recover, the girl had not been able to stop herself from wondering: since she was occupying the teacher’s room, where exactly would the teacher sleep at night?
On the store counter? Or on the floor?
She could not picture that scene at all.
There was no way the teacher would sleep in Bai Tang’s original storage-room-turned-bedroom—the cramped space with zero airflow!
No matter how she looked at it, her witch teacher did not seem like the selfless type!
So Bai Tang had naturally assumed the witch would simply keep things the same… meaning they would share the same room.
The two of them sleeping in the same bed…
She had needed to do quite a bit of mental preparation before she could convince herself to accept the idea.
She had even started worrying about whether her sleeping habits were terrible—kicking off the blankets, grinding her teeth, maybe disturbing the witch teacher’s rest.
And the result? The result!
Wasn’t Long Night supposed to be dangerous? So why did the teacher have to go out every single time it was bedtime? Bai Tang was, after all, a mature yet adorable, shapely yet adorable beautiful girl.
Why did it feel like the teacher would rather face indescribable horrors outside—things that could drive someone insane with a single glance—than share a bed with her!
Did witches not need to sleep or something?
Truthfully, Bai Tang had never actually looked forward to sleeping in the same bed as the witch teacher, so she did not feel any real disappointment.
But remembering the wild thoughts she had back then still left her a little too embarrassed to mention.
“Whew~ Forget it. No more of that nonsense!”
Bai Tang slapped her cheeks hard with both hands, forcing those unimportant thoughts out of her head. There were more important matters at hand right now.
The girl focused her attention. The Eye of Breaking Delusions slowly displayed her personal status panel.
[Name: Bai Tang]
[Race: Human]
[Age: 18]
[Level: LV10 (Wandering Soul Level 1~10—maximum reached)]
[Strength: 7]
[Agility: 8]
[Constitution: 5]
[Intelligence: 8]
[Charm: 9]
[Possessions: Demon Hunter Revolver (0/6), Empty Potion Bottles ×2, Ghost Coins ×1720]
[Reputation: Clerk at the General Store at No. 111 Undead Street. Though still largely unknown, thanks to the madness she has displayed in recent days, she has inevitably caught the attention of gazes lurking in the shadows of Undead Street.]
Over the past two days she had completed many simple tasks such as “assisting the witch teacher in brewing potions.” Under the Eye of Breaking Delusions, Bai Tang’s level had already reached 10.
Her leveling speed should not have been this fast. It was only because her teacher had let her test the potions that many of the attribute-enhancing medicines had gone straight into her stomach and converted directly into experience points.
“Max level… already?”
Staring at the level column on the panel, Bai Tang frowned slightly.
She had already noticed that none of the quests provided by the Eye of Breaking Delusions gave experience anymore. Her level had been locked at the human maximum of 10 and could not advance any further.
Reaching the Fierce Ghost Level of this world would not be so simple!
“Am I missing something? Or does supernatural power require me to learn it myself?”
This left Bai Tang momentarily stumped.
To put it harshly, even the mindless Wandering Soul Level ghouls outside the general store were nothing more than decomposers that cleaned up rotting flesh in this world—equivalent to stray cats and dogs back on Earth that survived by eating garbage.
Fierce Ghost Level was the real starting point here.
If Bai Tang’s level stayed stuck, she would forever remain a pre-prepared little snack for those bizarre creatures, forced to live every day in fear and anxiety just to survive.
“Aaah! So annoying!”
The girl ruffled her hair in frustration. At the hour when she should have been asleep, anxiety kept her tossing and turning. No matter what, she could not fall asleep.
At times like this, Bai Tang could only resort to the oldest and most effective method.
She bounced out of bed and was about to head to the washroom when she suddenly remembered the witch teacher’s instructions.
This was the final stage of her arm-wound recovery. She could not touch water until tomorrow.
“Mmm…”
Although it felt a little strange not being able to clean up after using the bathroom these past two days, she had managed to endure it.
Bai Tang stood in the center of the room and looked around.
A sudden feeling of emptiness washed over her.
Her gaze finally settled on the rectangular brown wooden desk against the wall, where an ink bottle and quill pen sat. The oil lamp had noticeably less oil inside, as if it was used often.
From the pattern of the past two days, Bai Tang knew that every time the witch teacher went out during Long Night, she would not return until White Day.
Tonight would be the same as usual.
For the next seven hours at least, the entire general store would contain only Bai Tang.
