In the early morning, Man En and his party boarded a carriage headed for the territory of Duke Campbell.
Throughout the journey, Man En remained tense, ready to activate Time Rewind at any moment.
After all, given Lai La’s methods, she should already know that he was still alive.
With that as a premise, there was a high chance she would continue to attack him.
If he successfully arrived, it would be much harder for her to make a move then.
No matter what, Man En Mathews was still the Viscount’s son. That identity was a ticking time bomb.
If she still wanted the territory, taking out the original owner halfway would be the best solution. And she could easily pin it on the Evil God Sect.
“If it were me, I’d do that. But…”
Throughout the entire journey, not only were there no attacks, but there wasn’t even a trace of the Evil God Sect.
“Could it be that Dulufu and the four accompanying Paladins intimidated them?”
Or maybe… she simply didn’t care?
“Never mind. Overthinking is pointless. I’ll just counter whatever comes.”
Man En’s expression grew more and more solemn. Mei, who was beside him, noticed his unease.
“Young Master Man En…”
She gently took his hand.
“Everyone is here. You can relax a little.”
“Thank you, Mei.”
Seeing this, Dulufu could only look away awkwardly and clear his throat twice to signal the two not to overdo it.
Startled, Man En and Mei withdrew their hands at the same time, their cheeks burning.
Dulufu’s lips curled up involuntarily. Teasing innocent young men and women was really fun.
“I sure miss those days. Every time I see you two, it reminds me of when I was young…”
“Save it!”
Man En interrupted him.
“You single old man!”
Yeah, revenge!
“Single old man! Single old man! Hahaha!”
Dan Luo pointed at Dulufu, laughing heartlessly.
Even Mei, standing behind Man En, hid her smile behind her hand.
“Looks like I’m the one getting laughed at now…”
Dulufu smiled wryly, then immediately turned his gaze to Dan Luo.
“But what’s up with you, kid? Getting too into character?”
“You insolent fool! I am the butler of the Viscount’s mansion. Mind your language!”
That remark infuriated Dulufu.
“Hey! Getting cocky, are you? I’ll teach you a lesson today!”
Seeing this, Man En was a little dumbfounded.
Was Dulufu really this lively? Based on his appearance, he had seemed like the steady type.
“Alright, alright, stop messing around. Let’s go over the plan once more before we enter the city.”
As he spoke, Man En’s expression turned serious.
“First, I’ll go into the Campbell Manor with Mei and Dan Luo. Lord Dulufu, you’ll command the Church’s support from the shadows.”
“Second, just in case, I’ve set up several rendezvous points within Viscount Campbell’s territory. Both Dan Luo and you, Lord Dulufu, need to memorize them.”
“If something happens, contact me immediately. I’ll get there as fast as I can. Also, for the first few days, try not to act rashly. Wait for my news.”
After finishing, Man En looked around at everyone.
“Does anyone have anything to add?”
“Let me say a few words.”
Dulufu produced four magical items stamped with a cross.
“These are our communication tools—accessories made by the Church. Wearing them won’t attract attention, so don’t lose them.”
He watched them take the items before continuing in a calm voice.
“In any case, things may not develop exactly as we expect. We’ll have to adapt on the spot.”
“That’s all I have to say.”
Man En listened and nodded seriously.
At that moment, a voice from outside the carriage—one of their Church colleagues—called out.
“Lord Dulufu, the carriage is about to enter the city. We need to leave now.”
“Well, I guess it’s time to say goodbye… Man En.”
Dulufu looked at Man En and extended his hand.
“Good luck.”
They merely shook hands, without further words.
“Alright, I have to go.”
With that, he got off the carriage without looking back.
“And Dan Luo—I entrust him to your care.”
“Don’t worry! He’s my butler now.”
Dulufu smiled, turned to wave at everyone, and then joined the group of Paladins.
After watching Dulufu leave, Man En smiled and turned to Dan Luo.
“It seems Lord Dulufu cares a lot about you.”
“Yeah, Lord Dulufu is like an older brother to me… So I’m truly grateful that you saved his life.”
Dan Luo spoke softly, being serious for once.
“Alright. We have our own work to do, don’t we?”
Man En broke the somewhat awkward atmosphere.
“And we can’t just let the carriage sit here, can we?”
“That’s true, hehe.”
Dan Luo looked at Man En again, returning to his usual demeanor.
“Let me think… driving the carriage once—I’ll charge you five Kan gold!”
Hearing this, Man En couldn’t help but laugh.
Actually, the price was quite fair.
“Deal.”
“But you’ll have to settle up after the job’s done.”
Instead of getting angry, Dan Luo just grinned at Man En.
“Just watch—I won’t let you down!”
Without waiting for a reply, he walked straight to the driver’s seat.
Man En smiled, recalling the first time he had met Dan Luo.
His impression of him had been extremely bad. But after getting to know him, he seemed pretty decent.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Dan Luo didn’t respond. The carriage shuddered once, then continued onward toward Duke Campbell’s territory.
Sigh. Fate was truly unpredictable.
He had struggled with all his might, yet in the end, he still had to go to the very place he originally intended to avoid.
But then again, death was not invincible.
Man En leaned back against the seat and gently closed his eyes.
Not long after, the carriage stopped bumping. The surroundings suddenly became extremely quiet.
“Dan Luo, why did we stop? And Mei, pass me the water flask.”
Yet, after a long moment, no one answered.
“Mei? Dan Luo?”
Man En’s eyes snapped open. He found himself in a strange place.
His body was half-kneeling, and the ground was covered in thick, viscous liquid.
The smell of blood filled the air, making it hard to breathe.
Then, an endless wave of exhaustion struck, followed by pain and despair.
“What… is this? Why can’t I control my body?”
He struggled desperately for a long time. Perhaps his actions had some effect—his perspective began to move slowly.
Under the moonlight, an eerie red glow surrounded everything.
Within his line of sight lay dozens of fallen bodies.
But not a single one was intact. It was then that Man En realized something was wrong.
A Divine Revelation? Is this the near future?
His gaze wandered aimlessly, but all it did was let Man En see the victims’ deaths more clearly.
“Stop… stop it! I don’t want to see anymore!”
But right now, he couldn’t control this body at all. The helplessness felt like being pinned down and sliced alive.
“Dulufu… Dan Luo… Mei… and everyone from the Church…”
“Don’t… don’t say it!”
“It’s all my fault…”
“Oh? So this is the result of your struggle? How boring.”
It was a woman’s voice, full of contempt.
“Enough. I’m getting tired of this. Rien, finish him.”
“As you command!”
The sound of high heels faded into the distance. Man En felt a tremendous force grip his neck and lift him up.
Thanks to that action, he could finally see the person in front of him.
It was a man dressed in butler attire, exuding an aura similar to his own.
‘Another Divine Envoy…’
The man simply stared at him, with eyes so pitiful it was unnerving.
Then, his body began to twist grotesquely.
In an instant, excruciating pain shot through his brain, nearly making him faint.
But tragically, he couldn’t even pass out now.
Soon, darkness enveloped his vision, and Man En lost consciousness completely.
“Young Master Man En! Please wake up! Honestly, why did you suddenly faint?”
His vision returned to find Mei’s anxious face and Dan Luo’s curious one.
“I… I’m fine.”
“What? You scared me!”
After saying that, Dan Luo lost interest and went back to driving the carriage.
But Mei saw that Man En had something on his mind. Worry filled her eyes.
She took out a clean handkerchief and gently wiped the sweat from his brow.
“Are you really… alright?”
