“Cough! Uncle Wang, have you seen enough?”
Liu Yao saw Wang Chengle still staring directly at her face, and the urge to punch him surged up again. She took a deep breath, her tone carrying a hint of gritted teeth.
She turned her head, one hand spread in front of her body, the other placed at her lower back, assuming a starting stance. Her voice, deliberately lowered, sounded like a youth whose voice hadn’t fully changed.
After Liu Yao’s reminder, Wang Chengle finally snapped back to reality and withdrew his gaze awkwardly.
‘Gah! Strange, I’ve never seen such a handsome young lad.’
‘How can a man look so much like a woman? This is truly bizarre.’
‘I stared at him for so long just now—he doesn’t think I’m a cut sleeve, does he?’
‘Forget it, I’ll just say I was stunned by his skill!’
With these thoughts, Wang Chengle’s face still showed a hint of embarrassment.
“N-no… Little Brother, don’t misunderstand. This old man was just momentarily stunned by your martial arts. I must thank you for saving my life this time!”
He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and glanced at the two assassins lying on the ground with lingering fear.
“If not for Little Brother’s help, I’m afraid this old man’s life would have been lost.”
“You’re too kind. I was just passing by and couldn’t stand to see someone committing murder in broad daylight, so I stepped in.”
Liu Yao glanced at the two men she had sent flying with two kicks; they were now leaning against the wall, wailing.
“B-big brother! This guy is fierce!”
“Ouch! Yeah! I think this person is definitely not here with good intentions!”
“Cough! Big brother, I… I think we’re the ones with bad intentions.”
“Shut your stinking mouth!”
Seeing these two brothers still clowning around even in this situation, the girl’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
‘These two idiots, in their current plight, aren’t even thinking about how to escape, and they’re discussing who is the aggressor or not…’
‘I really feel sorry for their future.’
“You two little wretches! I’ll—”
Before he could finish, Wang Chengle, still furious, picked up the sword that Liu Yao had knocked aside and walked toward the two.
“Wait!” Liu Yao reached out to stop him, her tone casual. “Uncle Wang, these two dared to commit murder in broad daylight. They must have been hired. Aren’t you curious who wants to harm you?”
Wang Chengle was taken aback by Liu Yao’s words, then nodded in agreement.
“Right, right! Little Brother is right!”
He threw away the sword he had just picked up and was about to go question the two attackers, but Liu Yao stopped him again with her hand.
Liu Yao showed a broad smile, her tone frank.
“Uncle Wang, please step back a bit. These two have been wailing nonstop—I suspect they’re faking their injuries. The moment you get close, they’ll strike to kill you with one blow.
“Why not let me question them? I have some confidence in my martial arts. I’m not afraid of their sneak attacks, and it can prevent innocent people from getting hurt, right?”
After saying this, the “young man” patted his own shoulder, as if implying that the fight just now was nothing more than a speck of dust on him.
Wang Chengle found the “young man’s” words very reasonable, so he cupped his hands in salute.
“Then I’ll leave it to you, Young Hero!”
Liu Yao returned the courtesy politely, then turned to look at the two still-wailing assassins and stepped toward them with confident strides.
She crouched down and took off her reed hat, revealing a delicate face. Her features carried a youthful energy, but upon closer inspection, there was also a hint of feminine grace.
“Speak. Who sent you? Daring to attack in broad daylight—are you tired of living?!”
Although her face was pleasant, her words were tough, unlike her gentle appearance.
“Sp-sp-spit on your head!”
Seeing that Wang Chengle didn’t fall for the trick, the Fat Killer stopped pretending and glared viciously at the smiling Liu Yao.
The two brothers had realized the moment they were knocked back that this person’s martial arts were not inferior to theirs. If they fought head-on, they would definitely lose.
So they played along, pretending to be severely injured to lure the enraged Wang Chengle over, intending to kill him in one blow and then flee the scene.
But they never expected the young man to be so experienced; he saw through their act at a glance.
“We won’t, won’t t-t-talk—”
“Stop! Second Brother, let me.”
The Thin Killer raised his hand to interrupt his brother, then looked up at Liu Yao.
Liu Yao crouched in front of him, the corners of her mouth under the hat brim still wearing that enigmatic half-smile. Despite having a delicate face, her gaze was cold as if it could see right through him.
The Thin Killer felt a chill down his spine under her stare.
‘This guy… not easy to fool.’
‘Better think of a way out first. Where there’s life, there’s hope!’
He swallowed his saliva, lowered his voice, and spoke with a hint of tension.
“I can tell you, but… not in front of others.”
Hearing this, Liu Yao raised an eyebrow.
‘Huh, if you tell me, I’ll still have to relay it anyway.’
‘Truly unnecessary.’
But to make them feel safe enough to spill the information, Liu Yao decided to follow the Thin Killer’s request.
“Fine.” She leaned in closer, her tone casual. “Speak. I want to see who’s so bold.”
A strange glint flashed in the Thin Killer’s eyes, but his face remained calm and motionless. His lips parted—
And at that moment, he suddenly raised his hand and shouted sharply:
“Second Brother! Now! Attack!”
Before the words faded, the Fat Killer, from somewhere, produced a handful of sand and threw it directly into Liu Yao’s face.
Liu Yao’s pupils contracted, and her body instinctively leaned backward.
The flying dust brushed past her face as she narrowly dodged it.
But just as she was off-balance, the two brothers simultaneously kicked her hard in the chest.
“Damn!”
A loud thud sounded.
Liu Yao stumbled backward, then steadied herself, adjusted her breathing, and let out a muffled grunt.
The two brothers, not eager to prolong the fight, used the momentum from the kick to turn and run, disappearing from the Dawn Spring Courtyard in just a few steps.
“You little bastard! Just you wait, wait for me!” the Fat Killer shouted as he ran, “And old Wang! I’ll come back for your two lives sooner or later!”
“Come for your head! Hurry up and run, you blockhead!”
And so, the voices grew distant, and their fleeing figures gradually vanished.
Liu Yao leaned against the wall, raised her hand to brush off the dust on her clothes, her expression not looking good.
She glared in the direction they disappeared, gritting her teeth.
“Little Brother! Are you all right?!”
Wang Chengle, never having seen such a scene, rushed over in a panic to check on Liu Yao’s injuries.
Liu Yao waved her hand, not speaking.
A dull pain came from her chest—
‘That kick loosened my chest binding…’
