Surprisingly, after pressing the doorbell, the other party immediately pressed the button to open the door, without even asking who was at the door through the intercom.
Su Ziyan successfully entered the elevator. Looking at his somewhat blurry reflection on the iron elevator doors, he took a few deep breaths to stay calm.
After all, this was his first time looking for a part-time job, and even more so, his first job interview in his life. Feeling nervous about such an unusually high salary was only natural.
He couldn’t imagine at all what the boss for this job would be like. The other party hadn’t called him once during this whole process, and hadn’t even said a word when he rang the doorbell.
The WeChat profile picture, information, and moments were all completely blank, with not a single bit of information about the other person.
With such a severe lack of information, Su Ziyan felt he could rack his brain and still not imagine what kind of person they were. Combined with the nervousness deep inside, in his current state, the other party seemed incredibly mysterious.
So mysterious that it even started to feel off to him… Wait, come to think of it, wasn’t this whole thing off from the start?
A contact with absolutely no information and an unbelievably high salary… Many things can’t withstand close scrutiny, and what Su Ziyan was about to face undoubtedly fit that description.
Was he really about to step into a trap? Like, what if the other party was actually some kind of scam group?
It couldn’t be that they were going to tie him up and harvest his kidneys, right?
The more he thought about it, the more serious it seemed. Su Ziyan felt goosebumps rising on his arms.
‘Calm down, Su Ziyan. You need to calm down.’
‘You’re an eighteen-year-old, physically healthy adult man. Even if you encounter some accident, you should be able to protect yourself just fine.’
‘Don’t be afraid!’
Even though he had already psyched himself up internally, when the chime signaling the elevator’s arrival sounded, Su Ziyan still couldn’t help but shiver.
As the elevator doors opened, he stepped out into the hallway. Just as he was about to look for the apartment number to knock, he heard the sound of a door opening.
With some wariness, he turned his head towards the sound, intending to see what this mysterious person looked like. The result was completely opposite to the muscular tough guy he had imagined.
It was a slender girl. Messy long hair draped over her shoulders, her whole person seeming somewhat haggard. The dark circles under her eyes indicated she hadn’t been resting well lately.
But even the dark circles couldn’t hide her delicate face. Because her looks were simply too outstanding, even with a weary appearance, she gave off a vibe of an “apathetic beauty.”
She wore a loose pink hoodie, with shorts on the lower half, revealing a pair of beautiful legs. They weren’t excessively thin, but overall very well-proportioned, slender, and very pleasing to the eye.
On her feet were a pair of plastic clogs. The large shoes made her feet appear especially petite.
Because the contrast with his imagination was so extreme, upon seeing her, Su Ziyan was completely stunned. It took him a good while to snap out of it.
It was only then that he noticed her dead-fish-like eyes staring at him. He couldn’t help but think to himself that his chances for this job were probably eighty percent gone. After all, not only had he not said a word just now, but he had also stared at her face for several seconds.
Although her legs were indeed very nice to look at, weren’t pictures of nice legs online a dime a dozen?
So it was actually her pretty, apathetic face that had completely captured Su Ziyan’s attention. After all, such a naturally “gloomy” beauty was truly rare.
But the reality was, after she opened the door for him, he hadn’t said a word and just stared at her.
This was undoubtedly a very rude action.
‘Done for!’
Even though he thought in his heart that he was eighty percent already done for, he still had to save face. So, Su Ziyan, trying to mend the situation after the fact, opened his mouth to introduce himself.
“Hello, my name is Su Ziyan. I’m a freshman at XX University, here to apply for the child care job. May I ask… are you the contact person who posted that job?”
Remembering that even her WeChat name was blank, Su Ziyan couldn’t find a good way to address her for a moment. He could only brace himself and give his introduction.
His introduction received no response whatsoever. Su Ziyan just watched as the girl in front of him furrowed her pretty brows and looked him up and down several times.
Then, without giving any response, she simply turned her head and walked back inside…
Su Ziyan stood awkwardly rooted to the spot, unsure what to do. He thought, ‘Even if you don’t like me, you don’t have to be like this, right?’
Then he noticed she hadn’t closed the door. After walking a few steps, she turned back to look at him, wearing a somewhat strange expression.
Su Ziyan, of course, couldn’t understand the meaning in her eyes. But seeing her look at him, then at the slippers already placed by the doorway, he could only tentatively ask, “Are these slippers for me?”
The girl nodded, then continued walking further into the room. Seeing this, Su Ziyan hurriedly stepped inside, closed the door, changed into the slippers at the entrance, and followed the girl who had already taken a seat by the tea table.
Seeing the girl slightly raise her chin, Su Ziyan immediately, understanding the cue, sat down opposite her. The two of them began a staring contest, neither making a sound.
Finally, Su Ziyan couldn’t take being stared at any longer and had to ask, “May I ask what exactly this job requires me to do? I saw the job posting didn’t specify working hours or details…”
The girl didn’t respond, just continued staring at Su Ziyan.
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt her face had become quite a bit redder.
Looking at the girl who hadn’t said a single word since they met, Su Ziyan could only continue, steeling himself, and ask, “I wonder if you could let me meet the child I’ll be taking care of…”
Then Su Ziyan could no longer speak, because the girl simply lowered her head, pulled out her phone, and started playing on it.
‘So you actually haven’t been listening to a word I said at all?’
He didn’t know if her blushing was an illusion, but Su Ziyan was now certain his own face was burning red, his body temperature rapidly rising.
‘Damn it. She’s just messing around.’
‘What a garbage job. If you don’t want me, can’t you just say it directly?’
Su Ziyan was overheating with frustration. Thinking about how he’d been sitting here talking for so long without even getting a glass of water, and how the other party hadn’t even put him in her eyes, he didn’t feel like continuing the conversation either.
‘Might as well just turn around and leave.’
His phone happened to ring at that moment. Su Ziyan directly took it out, thinking of finding an excuse to leave, but then noticed the message was from the other party.
“My name is Xia Zhi.”
Just four simple words, but Su Ziyan was completely stunned. A possibility he had never considered suddenly occurred to him.
“Miss Xia Zhi… you… are you the one I’m supposed to take care of for this job?”
The girl in front of him still didn’t respond verbally, but her face turned several shades redder.
