They reached the floor where the restaurant was located via the elevator and entered together.
It was currently morning, the time for the Human Realm to enjoy breakfast.
Consequently, most of the guests in the restaurant were living people. While Ghosts like Ling Xiaoyou weren’t unheard of, they were quite rare.
Bai Qiuyin hadn’t come to the restaurant this time.
Perhaps she had already eaten her fill last night, so she was too lazy to come down and eat again this morning.
Guessing this, Ling Xiaoyou found a random spot and pulled Bai Shuanglian to sit down with her.
Breakfast was buffet-style.
They had already filled their plates with their favorite items and placed them on the table before taking their seats.
The reason for the buffet might have been because the servers from last night were all too exhausted to walk after dealing with Bai Qiuyin.
Ling Xiaoyou thought to herself while eating a soup dumpling.
Eating breakfast in total silence would be too depressing and would lack that refreshing morning feeling.
So, Ling Xiaoyou unceremoniously snatched a tofu roll from in front of Bai Shuanglian.
After catching the other’s attention, she spoke up.
“By the way, Bai Shuanglian, while you were away, I went to check on Xiaoyu. I originally just wanted to see her self-study progress and if she finished the homework you assigned.”
“Guess what she said?”
Bai Shuanglian understood that Ling Xiaoyou wanted to liven up the atmosphere.
She scooped up a small wonton with a spoon and held it to Ling Xiaoyou’s lips while asking with a smile, “What did she say?”
“Nom~”
Ling Xiaoyou didn’t even look as she swallowed the wonton in one bite.
Muffled, she said, “She said that at some point in the future, things like homework will definitely be replaced by more modern teaching methods. Why bother caring about something destined to be obsolete?”
“So…”
Bai Shuanglian gave a helpless smile and shook her head.
“She’s just making up excuses for not doing her homework by rambling about some grand, empty theories.”
“Exactly.”
Ling Xiaoyou nodded her small head solemnly.
“So I gave her a stern lecture and doubled her workload.”
The two looked at each other and burst into laughter simultaneously.
Their silver-bell-like laughter was like heavenly music. Anyone who heard it would surely be curious about what they were laughing about.
Fortunately, they had set up a soundproofing barrier around them before eating, so their conversation and laughter didn’t travel.
Since the topic had started, the rest of the conversation flowed easily.
Ling Xiaoyou grabbed an egg pancake and took a light bite, the pastry making a crunch sound.
She continued in a muffled voice, “But even though Xiaoyu didn’t do her homework, she still hopes we’ll go back soon.”
“Mhm, we’ll go back once the tournament is over,” Bai Shuanglian replied.
Thinking of those devils, she felt that the Xuantian Martial Tournament wouldn’t end so peacefully.
“Oh, right! It turns out there’s actually a Cat Girl among our colleagues from the Ghostly Resentment Office! Isn’t that unexpected?”
“A Cat Demon?”
Hearing Ling Xiaoyou’s gossipy tone, Bai Shuanglian nodded in surprise.
“It’s quite normal, actually. The environment for the Demon Race hasn’t been great lately. I heard many young demons have left their ancestral lands to make a living outside. Many have come to the Underworld and the Human Realm, leading to an increase in demon-related crimes lately.”
“Yeah.”
Ling Xiaoyou nodded her little head and suddenly sighed.
“I don’t know why the Demon Race can get permission to enter the Underworld while humans can’t. Otherwise, I’d really love to take you to the Underworld for a fun visit, Bai Shuanglian.”
Although the sentiment sounded a bit ominous, Bai Shuanglian understood Ling Xiaoyou’s intentions.
She smiled comfortingly.
“It’s fine. We can do it the other way around; I’ll take you for a grand tour of the Human Realm.”
“Ooh, that sounds pretty good too…”
Ling Xiaoyou’s eyes lit up at the suggestion.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a familiar figure walking by.
She blinked, her gaze following the figure involuntarily. It was a young girl dressed in lavish clothing with a beautiful face. Every movement she made seemed to exude a unique charm.
However, that wasn’t what Ling Xiaoyou was focused on.
Looking at the girl’s face, she felt a sense of familiarity but couldn’t quite place it. Since she couldn’t figure it out, she decided not to think about it—that was Ling Xiaoyou’s creed.
She shook her head and looked at Bai Shuanglian, pointing at the passing girl.
“Bai Shuanglian, look at that person.”
Bai Shuanglian looked at the girl in confusion, not understanding what Ling Xiaoyou meant.
“Don’t you think her aura is very similar to how you were when you first appeared before me?”
Bai Shuanglian was stunned for a moment, then helplessly rubbed Ling Xiaoyou’s head.
“I wondered what you were going to say. It was just for that?”
Ling Xiaoyou stuck out her tongue.
“Hehe! Well, it really is similar. I used to observe you very closely.”
“It’s just that you feel more aloof, like a Moonlit Fairy, while she’s more… lethal. Like a General Girl returning from a battlefield.”
“I didn’t realize you used to observe me, Xiaoyou.”
Hearing this, Bai Shuanglian chuckled.
“Then I’ll take that as a compliment. I quite like being called a Moonlit Fairy.”
“…Narcissist!”
Ling Xiaoyou’s face turned red as she huffed.
***
On the other side of the restaurant, the girl Ling Xiaoyou described as a ‘General Girl’ glanced in their direction.
She sat down at a random table and spoke to her sister via telepathy.
“Since you’re planning to come to the Imperial Capital as well, remember not to wander around once you arrive. I’ll come find you then.”
“Yes, I’m coming alone this time. I didn’t bring any guards or subordinates.”
“I didn’t bring them because they’re a nuisance. As for Father, let him be. I already told him I planned to compete, yet he still started a war at a time like this. I can’t be bothered with him.”
“Alright, go get ready. Remember to arrive early.”
Cutting off the telepathic connection, the General Girl didn’t eat breakfast.
Instead, she propped her chin on one hand and tapped the table idly with the other, seemingly deep in thought about something critical and important.
And for her, this matter was indeed very important:
‘After my sister arrives, where should I take her to play?’
