“Get the hell out here!”
White Lion fiercely kicked the door in front of him, not caring at all that the person on the other side was his boss.
He looked as if he wanted to swallow the guy behind the door alive.
Li Chi watched this scene from the side, at a loss for what to do, while the other employees passing by remained unmoved, as if they were already accustomed to it.
“You bastard! Do you know you’ve nearly driven me to a nervous breakdown aaaah!!!”
It was clear that White Lion was really angry.
“What’s all the racket? Can’t a person take a nap?”
A low, slightly hoarse voice, containing unquestionable authority, came from behind the door.
With a soft click, the heavy wooden door opened inward.
The first thing that came into view was a shoulder plate covered in black dragon scales, with a ferocious design, followed by an exceptionally tall figure that almost filled the entire door frame.
The newcomer was clad in a set of black dragon-shaped armor that exuded extreme intimidation. The armor’s lines were cold, hard, and sharp, each scale seeming forged from the deepest night, with edges flowing in dark golden patterns, like lava surging beneath cracked earth.
The dragon-head helmet covered his entire head, revealing only a pair of vertical pupils burning like golden flames, his gaze carrying a suffocating weight as it swept over.
His build was even more robust than Li Chi’s transformed Omega form, and just standing there, he seemed to absorb most of the light in the corridor.
However, in extreme contrast to this terrifying appearance, his left hand held a half-full bottle of soda, while his right carried a pink little backpack printed with magical girl merchandise.
This image of stark contradiction made the originally furious White Lion choke for a moment, but then his anger flared even hotter.
“Sleep?! Sleep my ass!”
White Lion pointed at the other’s nose and cursed.
“Clacking away from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon! Glass beads! Marbles! Are you that idle?! I was downstairs discussing serious business with the new colleague, and you were up here playing marbles?! You’ve nearly driven me insane! Compensate me for mental damages!”
Faced with White Lion’s barrage of abuse, the dragon-armored man merely tilted his head slightly, a hint of… pleasure?
flashing in those golden vertical pupils.
He spoke slowly in that heavy voice with a metallic resonance, his tone even a bit innocent: “Little Vivian said she wanted to see a ‘surprise.’ As her father, satisfying a daughter’s small entertainment request—what’s the problem?”
He shook the soda bottle.
“Besides, noise? I think it has a nice rhythm, helps stimulate thinking. Little White, you’re just too uptight, lacking a sense of childlike fun.”
“Childlike fun, my ass!! I’ll hack you to death, you turtle grandson!!!”
The nickname “Little White” had clearly hit White Lion’s sore spot dead on, snapping his last thread of reason.
The long sword in his hand unsheathed in an instant, trailing a chilling gleam, and slashed mercilessly toward the boss’s seemingly indestructible dragon-head helmet!
The move was swift and ruthless, with none of his earlier elegant composure.
Clang—!!!
A clear, ear-piercing clash of metal exploded, sparks flying everywhere.
The boss didn’t even set down his soda, simply raising his right arm covered in heavy armor and casually blocking with the outer forearm, precisely parrying White Lion’s furious strike.
The shockwave from the impact made Li Chi’s armor rattle, and the abstract paintings on the corridor walls shook.
“Tsk, the power’s decent, but the aim’s off—too much anger affecting your judgment.”
The boss even had the leisure to critique, his golden vertical pupils turning to Li Chi, who was watching the spectacle in a bit of a daze.
“New guy? Dark Fang, right? I’m the boss here—call me BOSS. Also…”
He lifted the pink backpack and continued: “As you can see, I’m Vivian’s father too. That kid has good taste; the ‘texture’ of your soul is interesting.”
As he spoke, he effortlessly blocked White Lion’s storm of continuous sword slashes with a single armored arm, the ding ding dang dang sounds ringing without end, his movements leisurely and even a bit perfunctory.
“Good thing you showed up—saves me from sending a task briefing.”
In the gap after parrying a diagonal slash, BOSS pulled a palm-sized black metal plate from somewhere with his free left hand and casually tossed it to Li Chi.
Li Chi caught it instinctively; the metal plate was cool to the touch, its surface immediately glowing faintly and projecting a short segment of text along with a map location.
“Your first assignment. Coastal park, near the abandoned viewing platform in the southeast corner—detected abnormal energy buildup, small scale. Go clean it up; think of it as practice for you.”
No sooner had he spoken than White Lion’s powerful straight thrust was caught at the sword tip by two of his fingers, then twisted and shoved back, sending White Lion staggering several steps backward with his sword.
“You bastard! Don’t get distracted while assigning tasks! And who gave you permission to toss task plates around like that?! You think the organization’s money grows on trees?!”
White Lion steadied himself, so angry his hair nearly stood on end, and raised his sword to charge again.
BOSS let out a soft sigh, seeming a bit helpless at White Lion’s persistence, but the pleasure in his golden vertical pupils was even more evident.
While continuing to handle White Lion’s attacks in a playful stance, he added one last thing to Li Chi: “Task details and support code are in the plate. After you’re done, contact Lina at the front desk directly for settlement. Now…”
He paused, apparently deciding that handling it one-handed wasn’t respectful enough to his rampaging subordinate, and finally set the soda and backpack carefully on a nearby decorative shelf.
Then, facing the oncoming White Lion once more, he flexed his neck beneath the dragon-scale armor, producing a light crack.
“…I’ve got to deal with some family matters here first. Good luck, new guy.”
With that, he stepped forward, actively meeting White Lion’s sword edge.
This time, his movements were clearly more serious, and the corridor immediately filled with even denser and more astonishing collision sounds, along with White Lion’s roars mixed with curses.
Li Chi glanced at the still-glowing task plate in his hand, then at the shocking display of workplace brawling before him, and silently stowed the plate away.
He gave a slight nod to the one-sidedly pummeled White Lion, and then…
He decisively turned around, activated his invisibility, and slipped away.
This place wasn’t safe to linger in; better to hurry off and handle the task.
As for the leader’s family matters? He hadn’t seen a thing, didn’t know a thing.
Moreover, their relationship seemed unexpectedly good?
The BOSS had even straight-up called it family matters!
Wasn’t the implication obvious enough?
Sticking around would be downright rude—better to get out of there quick.
