After returning to the workshop, Helos could hardly wait to change into her brand-new travel set.
The dark short jacket fit her slender figure perfectly, while the multi-pocket design allowed her to organize her frequently used potions and tools into different categories, keeping them all within reach.
The dark trousers and knee-high boots were not only durable but also didn’t hinder her from making any large-scale movements.
When she finally put on the plain silver mask that completely covered her face and pulled down the large hood, the reflection in the mirror was a completely unfamiliar, petite figure with a somewhat mysterious aura.
“Hmm — it really is a bit unfamiliar.”
She turned her head to look at herself in the mirror, her voice sounding somewhat muffled under the mask.
While she had used disguises like this before, she was amazed by the strange feeling this set of equipment provided.
Even though there wasn’t a trace of mana in her body, she could clearly feel a weak ripple on the cloak merging with the surrounding environment.
‘It hasn’t been affected by the curse of silence?’
Helos shook the cloak in surprise.
No, perhaps it was because the craftsmanship of this cloak was different from what she had imagined. Even the curse of silence couldn’t completely suppress it.
As she pulled up the hood, the entire world seemed to change.
She felt her perception become exceptionally sharp, to the point where she could vaguely “hear” the flow of the air, the shifting of light and shadow, and the squire hiding behind the door, doing who-knows-what.
“You! Stop peeking from behind the door and come over here to try on your new gear.”
She spoke without turning her head, her tone carrying a hint of teasing.
Julius poked his head out from behind the door, his face full of surprise. “How did you know I was behind the door?”
“Hmm… a feeling?”
Helos turned around and pointed to her hood. “This thing seems to amplify my senses.”
Julius walked over skeptically, but his gaze was soon drawn to his own brand-new mithril light armor. He carefully put on the armor, every piece fitting his form perfectly.
Compared to his old iron armor, this light armor was so light he could barely feel the weight, yet it provided impeccable protection at every joint.
When he finally gripped the longsword, a surge of pure and warm holy light power instantly poured into his body from the hilt, creating a strong resonance with his own mana.
He simply gave the sword a forceful swing toward the wall, and a solid golden blade of energy hissed out with a *shink*, leaving a deep mark on the opposite wall.
“So, so strong!”
He felt the power filling his body, his voice trembling slightly with excitement. “I feel like my strength is at least 30% stronger than before!”
Watching his inexperienced reaction, Helos couldn’t help but roll her eyes, but the corners of her mouth curled up uncontrollably. She could feel that Julius was sincerely happy for this strength.
“Since you’re so powerful, the task of protecting me in the future will be even more difficult, my knight squire.”
She spoke in a deliberately teasing tone.
“Don’t worry.”
Julius sheathed his sword, tapped the shield on his arm, and a confident smile appeared on his face.
He glanced at Helos, then at Gavi, who was standing to the side and had already changed into an equally plain traveler’s outfit, feeling more motivated than ever.
Gavi’s transformation was simple.
To avoid exposing her identity as a golem, Helos had asked Lille to find a set of gray robes with gloves and a hood, completely covering her inhuman metallic skin and unique hair color. It made her look like a quiet, ordinary traveler.
“Alright, since everyone is ready, let’s head out.”
Helos clapped her hands and gave the command.
After the three of them changed into their new gear, they set out once again for the Adventurer’s Guild. This time, they no longer needed to be sneaky and walked openly through the streets of Olivius City.
Helos’s mask and cloak perfectly hid her identity, while Julius’s fine yet unassuming armor only made him look like a young adventurer with decent strength.
Soon, they arrived once more before the heavy wooden door covered in sword and knife scratches.
*Ding-ling — *
The copper bell on the door let out a crisp sound.
The guild hall was as noisy as ever, the air thick with an unknown scent.
Their arrival did not attract much attention; only a few sharp-eyed adventurers caught a glimpse of Julius’s equipment, a trace of imperceptible surprise flashing in their eyes.
Helos walked straight to the request counter. Behind the counter was still the middle-aged female receptionist wearing a monocle.
She didn’t even look up as she processed the documents in her hand, asking mechanically, “How can I help you?”
“We want to register as adventurers.”
Helos tried her best to keep her voice steady, but her heart still raced uncontrollably under the mask.
Hearing this, the receptionist finally looked up. Her gaze lingered on Helos’s petite figure for a moment, her brow furrowing slightly with a look of doubt.
“You?”
She pushed up her glasses. “Little girl, you don’t look very old. Being an adventurer isn’t easy work.”
“I know,” Helos replied with a nod. “But there shouldn’t be an age limit for registering as an adventurer, right?”
“There isn’t.”
The receptionist shrugged and pulled a form from a drawer. “However, I still have to ask as a matter of routine — why do you want to become an adventurer?”
Helos answered without hesitation, “To take on requests to hunt magical beasts.”
As soon as she said this, not only the receptionist but even several nearby adventurers who were eavesdropping couldn’t help but let out low snickers.
“Hunt magical beasts?”
The receptionist’s face wore an expression of helplessness. She put down her pen and sighed. “Little girl, I have to remind you that requests for hunting magical beasts are, at minimum, Rank D missions.”
“All newly registered adventurers start at Rank F. According to guild regulations, you cannot immediately take on Rank D missions.”
“Huh?”
Helos froze, and even the mask couldn’t hide the disappointment in her voice. “Then what do we have to do to take them?”
“Unless…”
The receptionist paused, as if trying to recall something.
“Unless you can prove that you possess strength equivalent to a Rank D adventurer. Only then might the guild make an exception for you and raise your rank directly.”
“However — ” She looked at Helos’s slender arms and shook her head. “Ordinary people can’t do it.”
“How do we prove it?”
Just as Helos was feeling discouraged, Julius stepped forward and asked in a deep voice.
The receptionist looked at him, then at the longsword at his waist which clearly wasn’t an ordinary item.
Her expression of contempt lessened slightly. “It’s actually quite simple. We have specialized personnel to conduct tests.”
Helos’s eyes instantly lit up. Just as she was about to ask for more details about the test, a coarse and impatient voice suddenly exploded behind her.
“Get out of the way! Don’t block the road!”
Before she could react, a thick, powerful hand rudely shoved her to the side.
Helos stumbled and nearly fell, but Julius caught her just in time. She looked up to see a burly man with a face full of rough features squeezing toward the counter.
He wore a set of worn-out leather armor and carried a battle-ax on his back that was larger than Helos herself. His beard was stained with wine, and he reeked of an unpleasant smell of alcohol.
“Hey! Hurry up! I’m here to turn in a mission!”
The man slammed a blood-stained sack onto the counter with a *thud*, causing the documents on top to jump.
The receptionist’s brow furrowed, but she patiently took the sack. “Can’t you wait for a moment next time? Don’t act like a barbarian!”
The burly man turned his head and looked Helos and Julius up and down with a contemptuous gaze, letting out a disdainful snort.
“Kids these days really dare to dream about anything. Hunting magical beasts? Don’t end up wetting your pants from fear and crying for your mama!”
“Heh, I’m a Rank C adventurer, after all. Don’t I have the right to cut in line?”
