The motorcycle sped across the wilderness.
The violent wind blowing against him forced Lin Yu to squint, barely able to keep his eyes open.
But he could not slow down, and he did not dare to.
By his estimation, the black tower was less than three kilometers away, which meant the Rift King Beast carrying his sister and the others was even closer.
Most lethally, the area surrounding the black tower had been completely terraformed into an environment suitable for Rift Beasts. If a human stepped foot there, they would at best be infected by a virus, or at worst, die on the spot.
Ability users might be able to resist for a little longer, but given their current state of being severely injured, they likely wouldn’t last very long.
He pushed the motorcycle to its absolute limit, the exhaust pipe screaming as it spat out flames.
He had to be faster, even faster!
After about ten seconds, he noticed some black dots appearing at the edge of his vision.
But his expression didn’t relax in the slightest, because that wasn’t the Rift King Beast. Instead, it was a group of Rift Beasts surrounding two people.
As he drew closer, he saw that the two people were Xin Yao and Mu Liuli, but they were in bad shape, both covered in wounds.
He quickly found a slanted concrete slab and drove toward them.
He had no combat power himself, but as long as he could make contact with an ability user, that wouldn’t be an issue.
When he looked over again, he saw Mu Liuli’s physical reaction slow down due to exhaustion. A Rift Beast’s sharp claws were rapidly approaching her from behind.
Just as it was about to slice her in half, Xin Yao shoved her aside, leaving a terrifying, deep wound on her own abdomen where the bone was visible. Blood gushed out.
“Captain!!” Mu Liuli’s eyes widened, and a grief-stricken scream escaped her lips.
Driven by this surge of emotion, she erupted with her last bit of strength, controlling the surrounding Rift Beasts and gaining a brief moment to breathe.
However, she knew this was nothing more than a final struggle.
She helped Xin Yao up and leaned her against herself. Taking out the emergency medical spray she hadn’t had a chance to use, she sprayed it frantically on the wounded abdomen, barely managing to stop the bleeding.
Xin Yao tremulously rested her hand on Mu Liuli’s wrist and spoke with extreme weakness, “Liuli, take… this chance and… run… *cough cough*…”
Mu Liuli bit her trembling lip hard, her eyes brimming with tears as she shook her head forcefully.
Xin Yao wanted to say more, but she no longer had the strength. She seemed to sense something and struggled to turn her head, looking back.
Through her blurred vision and the swarm of Rift Beasts, she thought she saw a figure on a motorcycle riding toward them.
‘Who is it?’
It didn’t matter who it was, as long as this child could be saved… And Mowei and the others, they…
With those thoughts, she slowly closed her eyes.
The tears in Mu Liuli’s eyes finally fell. She didn’t cry out loud; she just lifted her head and waited for death in silent resignation.
It was all over…
‘Dad, Mom, I’m coming to find you…’
“Stop crying! Catch me!”
Suddenly, a voice so angry it cracked interrupted Mu Liuli’s deathly stillness.
She opened her eyes, her mouth falling open slightly as she looked at the boy falling from the sky in shock.
Mu Liuli’s reaction was quick enough; she hurriedly set down Xin Yao and stood up with her arms open, trying to catch the flying Lin Yu.
But because of her lack of physical strength, her legs buckled the moment she caught him. The two of them tumbled like a rolling gourd, and after a few rotations, they ended up on the ground with her on top of him, face-to-face.
“Y-You…”
“What ‘you’? I’m helping you!”
“?”
Just as she subconsciously wondered how he would help, the boy beneath her pressed his hands against her face and kissed her without hesitation.
“Mmph!” The sensation of their lips meeting made her freeze for a moment.
It had to be said that this girl’s thought process wasn’t normal either. If it had been Xia Yanran, her mind would have gone blank, and she would have frozen up, not knowing what to do.
But Mu Liuli was different. The first thought that popped into her head was something she had seen online: ‘He likes you.’
However, she realized she was overthinking it in the next second.
She suddenly felt an indescribable sensation emerging from all over her body. Her heart was racing—not from infatuation, but in a literal, physical sense. Her blood was flowing at a speed she could feel, yet miraculously, her blood vessels remained unharmed.
Furthermore, she noticed that her ability seemed to have undergone some kind of… evolution.
From Xin Yao’s near-death state to Lin Yu falling from the sky, less than ten seconds had passed. The Rift Beasts Mu Liuli had been controlling were already dead.
Just as the remaining Rift Beasts were about to pounce, they all stopped dead, as if they were under her control again.
She understood that this was the result of Lin Yu’s far-from-gentle kiss. Although she didn’t know what he had done, her ability had changed from controlling individual lines of targets to controlling an entire area.
It could no longer be described as a qualitative leap; it was a completely trans-dimensional upgrade.
Feeling most of her strength return, she slowly raised her head and subconsciously licked her lips, her face flushed with an unprecedented glow.
“Are you… a Harmonizer?”
It was very obvious, but she just couldn’t quite believe it.
Resonating with her made Lin Yu’s head spin. Though he was panting, he still spoke in a serious tone.
“Remember to keep this a secret. Don’t repay my kindness with enmity, you hear me!”
Others might not be able to keep their mouths shut, but Lin Yu knew she could.
“Mm,” she replied softly, but there was something extra in her gaze.
***
Under the dark, cloud-covered sky, a very bizarre scene unfolded.
Three people sat on a mountain motorcycle, followed by a swarm of Rift Beasts. Crucially, these beasts were not chasing them, but following.
Lin Yu drove in the front, while Mu Liuli controlled the Rift Beasts while holding Xin Yao. They couldn’t leave her behind; who knew what might happen.
“So, that Rift King Beast interrupted my sister’s skill?” he shouted toward her while keeping his eyes on the road.
“Yes!” Mu Liuli shouted back.
From her, Lin Yu learned what had happened.
It turned out that after waiting for an opportunity, Lin Mowei had successfully cut through the tentacles binding the five of them in one go.
Unfortunately, this Rift King Beast seemed special; not only could it regenerate at high speeds, but it could also solidify the surrounding space. For other ability users, this might not mean much, but for Lin Mowei’s ability, it was a natural counter.
She had been caught in a moment of carelessness. Only Xin Yao, who could fly, managed to grab the nearest person, Mu Liuli, and escape.
However, they were still hunted by Rift Beasts sent by the King Beast. If they couldn’t be captured alive, they were to be killed.
‘That’s quite in line with human thinking,’ the thought flashed through Lin Yu’s mind.
Finally, one minute later, he saw billowing smoke rising ahead. At this point, the Rift King Beast was less than 500 meters from entering the radiation zone of the black tower!
