“La~ lala~ lalala~”
Ling Xiaoyou hummed a brisk melody as she arrived at the Ghostly Resentment Office for work.
Not wanting to waste any time, she headed straight for the rest chamber to wait for Bai Shuanglian’s summons.
It had already been fourteen days since the first time Bai Shuanglian accompanied her for training.
During this period, the evening of every day was the time Ling Xiaoyou looked forward to most.
That was when she could begin her training with Bai Shuanglian.
Although she had to teach Xiaoyu cultivation courses before that, there was still plenty of time for her own practice every day.
It could be said that during this time, she spent more than half of every day with Bai Shuanglian!
While she wasn’t sure why that made her so happy, Ling Xiaoyou quite enjoyed herself.
The results of her training over this period were also quite pleasing.
Setting everything else aside, her Magic Arts were the first highlight.
The two she used most frequently, Myriad Transforming Rains and Xuan Yuan Water Control Technique, had already reached the level of Mastery.
On the other hand, because Sigh of the Tides was troublesome to activate and consumed a significant amount of Spirit Power, Ling Xiaoyou hadn’t practiced it particularly often.
She only used it during practical combat sessions, so the improvement wasn’t especially large.
But even so, it was enough to make Ling Xiaoyou very happy!
This meant she could improve her Magic Arts without needing to use the System to add points.
Although she couldn’t see any difference between this and the System’s direct upgrades for now, something she understood herself had to be more suitable for her than a direct upgrade from the System, right?!
Beyond Magic Arts, Ling Xiaoyou’s accuracy with the bow was also much better than before.
She could now hit the sixth ring!
How about that?
Wasn’t she amazing!
To be honest, Ling Xiaoyou wasn’t in a hurry regarding Magic Arts.
At the very least, she could use the System to upgrade them.
However, accuracy was something she couldn’t add points to at all!
It wasn’t that she lacked Happiness Points, but rather that there was simply no option to add points to it!
This was very annoying.
Otherwise, Ling Xiaoyou really would have wanted to just increase her hit rate to 100% and be done with it.
She felt that practicing in this area was far too troublesome, and the rewards were much smaller than her Magic Arts training.
In comparison, she preferred Magic Arts training.
‘Hmm, maybe I should just skip the bow training tonight and spend the whole time on Magic Arts.’
Ling Xiaoyou’s little head was filled with these wandering thoughts.
With her attention scattered, she nearly collided with someone stepping out of the elevator.
Fortunately, Ling Xiaoyou’s Speed stat was already very high, and her reflexes remained sharp.
She managed to dodge just before the collision.
“Oh, Xiaoyou.”
The familiar voice made Ling Xiaoyou pause for a moment.
She lifted her small head to see Wang Mingji carrying a large stack of documents.
After being busy for this period of time, Wang Mingji’s face had clearly become quite haggard.
Seeing this made Ling Xiaoyou, a slacker who was practically stealing her salary, feel very guilty.
However, Wang Mingji was unaware of these things, or perhaps she simply didn’t care.
She smiled and made small talk.
“Xiaoyou, you look so happy. Did something good happen?”
“Eh? I’m happy?”
Ling Xiaoyou was startled and subconsciously touched the corners of her mouth, seemingly trying to confirm if there was a smile there.
“Yes, you came over here skipping along with a smile you couldn’t suppress, and you were even humming a tune. Anyone who didn’t know better would probably think you were a little girl in love going to see her sweetheart.”
Wang Mingji stepped out of the elevator and teased her with a light laugh.
“Eh?? M — Me?”
Ling Xiaoyou walked into the elevator and pointed at herself in disbelief.
She couldn’t imagine that the ‘lovesick’ girl Wang Mingji mentioned was actually her.
“Indeed. It’s a shame I didn’t have time to take a picture just now. Otherwise, that scene would have kept everyone in the group chat excited for a long time.”
Wang Mingji casually spoke words that sounded terrifying to Ling Xiaoyou.
The latter’s petite body trembled, as she already imagined a group of obsessed women staring at a video of her with flushed faces.
“Sister Ming! The reports over here are ready! We’re just waiting for you!”
“Okay, I’ll be right there!”
Fortunately, someone called out for Wang Mingji just in time.
She answered them, then gave Ling Xiaoyou an apologetic smile.
“I still have things to do, so I’ll get back to work. Once this busy period is over, let’s have a good chat, Xiaoyou.”
“Okay, okay. Go ahead and get busy, Sister Ming,” Ling Xiaoyou said hurriedly, nodding her small head repeatedly.
Watching Wang Mingji’s departing back, Ling Xiaoyou breathed a sigh of relief.
She had almost forgotten that Sister Ming was also someone who liked to fuss over her.
Even though she knew it was just a joke, it was still scary!
As for Wang Mingji’s earlier words, they were tossed to the back of her mind because Ling Xiaoyou had been so startled.
And so, Ling Xiaoyou looked left and right to make sure no one was paying attention to her.
Only then did she relax and continue happily toward the rest chamber.

“All right, that’s it for today’s course.”
In Xiaoyu’s room, Bai Shuanglian set down the book on basic cultivation knowledge and looked at Xiaoyu.
Xiaoyu let out an understanding sound.
Then, as if thinking of something, her large eyes rolled around before settling on Ling Xiaoyou.
She looked at Ling Xiaoyou, who was sitting to the side flipping through the books Bai Shuanglian had brought.
She tilted her small head as if surprised that Ling Xiaoyou would be so fond of reading.
Was Ling Xiaoyou actually reading?
Yes and no.
More accurately, she was looking at the ancient anecdotes recorded in those ancient books — stories like how a certain Cultivator accidentally stumbled into an Elder’s cave and eventually became a great Neng.
If she had to make a comparison, it was like how at the start of every school semester, she would read through all the interesting texts in the language textbook.
Xiaoyu shook her head, not caring much about that.
Instead, she was more interested in something else.
She leaned in close to Ling Xiaoyou and whispered into the latter’s questioning gaze, “Elder Sister Xiaoyou, how has your battle with the Great Demon King Bai been going these past few days? Have you defeated the Demon King yet?”
The fact that Ling Xiaoyou and Bai Shuanglian were training together was not a secret.
Once, when Xiaoyu asked what the sisters did after the lessons ended, Ling Xiaoyou explained their nightly training to her, which included the practical combat phase.
As for “Great Demon King Bai”… that naturally referred to Bai Shuanglian.
After all, once the latter started fighting, she was like a cold, heartless combat machine — much like a Big Demon King.
So, while chatting with Xiaoyu, Ling Xiaoyou had accidentally let her inner thoughts slip out, and Xiaoyu had remembered it until now.
One could only say that good things are hard to learn, but learning bad things happens in an instant.
Naturally, after Bai Shuanglian discovered she was being called that by Ling Xiaoyou, she had fussed over her intensely for a long time to vent.
This resulted in Ling Xiaoyou sometimes feeling her legs go weak involuntarily whenever she saw Bai Shuanglian’s fair, delicate palms.
