Inside the Mist, Ariel rode a carriage full of furniture back to the center of the Mist.
With Old Man Mailun’s fawning, she finished all of Truth’s requirements in just one afternoon, and also took Mailun’s childhood textbooks to show the little snake.
“It seems I’ve really become one of the Mist’s people. None of the monsters I met on the way attacked me…”
Since she couldn’t bring outsiders in, Ariel could only take a cheap magic staff and jump off the carriage to start unloading alone.
Fortunately, she had learned a lot of practical Life Magic before. As long as she had a magic staff, moving things was simple!
However, things were not that simple. Just as she was thinking of putting all the furniture at the entrance of the cottage, Ariel discovered a UI Voice Message appearing at the door:
[When you trigger this message, it means you have returned to the Mist. And the fact that you dared to return means you have completed the task I assigned, right? Perfect. Since you are here anyway, why don’t you help me set things up for the little tail as well?
PS: Don’t put that doghouse I asked you to buy inside the house. Just put it at the door. It’s for that white snake to live in. I’m afraid its stench will pollute my cozy little cottage.]
“Damn it…”
Ariel grit her teeth after reading Truth’s message.
‘She really treats me like a servant! And this guy is a bit too cold-blooded, right? Making such a smart little snake sleep in a doghouse?!’
‘As expected of a Demon’s style!’
‘But I can’t go against the Demon’s task…’ Thinking of this, Ariel just sighed and started planning the placement of the furniture.
“Hiss?”
Suddenly, accompanied by the sound of disturbed grass, Little Mist, having smelled Ariel’s scent, drilled out from a corner. It looked curiously at the pondering Ariel.
The latter greeted it with pleasant surprise:
“Yo, you appeared again!”
Ariel didn’t know why she felt a sense of mutual pity from Little Mist. Perhaps it was because both of them had been bullied by the Demon?
Little Mist wagged its tail as a greeting. Currently, within the Mist, it didn’t have much guard up against Ariel.
“Look what I brought you.”
Ariel signaled Little Mist to come closer. Then she waved her cheap magic staff, making a large stack of old books from the carriage fly to her feet. Little Mist also leaned in curiously.
‘Books?’
Taking a closer look, these seemed to be some kind of language textbooks for children?
Little Mist flipped through one with its tail and found that it was indeed the case.
But why were all the illustrations in these books graffitied with watercolor pens?
Things like drawing a bra on the Legendary Hero Aize, or putting a skirt on the Ancient Dragon Corrado… it was full of bad taste.
Fortunately, the parts related to the exercises were very clean.
As long as there was a Teacher, Little Mist should be able to quickly master the Human language of this era.
As for the Teacher… Ariel squatted down and smiled slightly at Little Mist:
“After I finish my work, I’ll teach you how to read, okay?”
……
‘Bad, this is bad…’
On the second floor of the Church of the Goddess of Life, inside the Ninth Saintess’s private bedroom, Truth was sitting side-by-side with Eve on the edge of the bed.
The former was pressing tightly against the latter, her left hand tightly gripping the latter’s hand, not letting her leave, her expression peaceful.
If it weren’t for the fact that Eve was trembling constantly, and there was a tangled mess of a three-piece desiccated corpse in the wardrobe not far away, anyone would have thought these two were on a secret date.
‘Bad, bad, bad. I’m done for, done for, done for!’
At this moment, Eve’s small face was completely pale.
She never expected that the Ninth Saintess was the final BOSS.
This directly shattered her previous worldview, and the image of the Church and the Goddess of Life began to collapse along with it.
‘I’m so stupid, I was actually blinded by beauty…’
The faint smell of blood constantly stimulated the tip of her nose. Eve really wanted to run away.
She wanted to cry and shout for help while running to complain to Marius, shouting “The Ninth Saintess is the culprit behind everything!”
Unfortunately, she couldn’t do it, because she discovered that this Saintess, who was not even at the Second Rank, could pin her down firmly with Strength. No matter how she struggled, she couldn’t break free from the Ninth Saintess’s palm.
“Why did you suddenly get scared? Actually, I still prefer that unruly look you had just now.” Truth straightened her back slightly, looked up, and whispered in Eve’s ear.
‘She was clearly acting wildly arrogant just now, pointing a corpse at me, but then she suddenly went weak in the knees and collapsed on the ground. I really don’t get it. Forget it, actually, this fearful appearance fits my expectations better.’
Eve didn’t answer, her whole body still trembling. So Truth grabbed her chin with her other hand, forcing her face to turn and look at her, and said coldly:
“Answer me.”
“S… sorry…” Eve replied in a low voice while sobbing. She really didn’t know how to face Truth, and didn’t even dare to beg for mercy.
She had already seen the corpses of those victims. Coupled with witnessing Dickinson’s tragic death tonight, it was hard for her to believe that Truth would let her go. Death seemed destined.
“Apologize? If you apologize now, what’s the difference between putting on a condom after finishing? If you had knelt before me and begged from the start, swearing a poison oath not to leak this matter, I might have considered letting you go. But now…”
Truth paused suddenly, then changed the subject:
Although her voice was still sweet and the question asked was very ordinary, the intention behind asking it was too obvious. Eve’s pupils shrank instantly.
‘Crap, the Ninth Saintess wants to kill my whole family!’
Accompanied by a dull thud, Eve went limp and knelt directly before Truth:
“I beg you, please don’t! If you want to kill someone, just kill me alone. This matter has nothing to do with them!”
“Oh my, why did you suddenly kneel? I’m just purely trying to get to know you.”
Truth hurriedly and kindly helped Eve up to sit back beside her, gently stroking the latter’s hands and continuing, like a caring little sister:
“Don’t think crazy thoughts. How could I possibly do something like killing your whole family?”
‘Rather than going to great lengths to run to Wangdu to wipe out a Family, it would be better to just intercept Eve’s carriage halfway and frame it on the Demons. The reason for doing this is that Truth simply doesn’t want to kill too many Church people during the infiltration period.’
‘If there are too many homicides, the Church and the Goddess of Life will definitely focus on Deya City, which is completely disadvantageous to the Mist’s development. So it’s best to make Eve obediently keep the Secret.’
‘Compared to direct deterrence, veiled threats are even more terrifying.’
Immediately after, Truth’s mind moved, and she began to use the Sinful Aura she controlled to influence Eve’s senses.
An inexplicable fear spread over the latter, and her brain began to run wild, filled with tragic scenes of her whole family being silenced.
“Really…? Holy Maiden, can I really trust you?”
“I swear in the name of the Goddess. So, Eve, what is your Father’s name?” Truth continued to provoke Eve’s fear.
“Igor…”
After speaking her Father’s name, Eve instantly associated it with the image of her Father being disemboweled by Truth.
“And your mother?”
“Ilia…”
The image of her mother being nailed to the wall, dying with her eyes open, also appeared in her mind.
“Do you have any siblings?”
“I have two… twin brothers who just became adults… Sob, Holy Maiden, I beg you, please don’t lay a hand on them, okay? I…”
“Shh~” Truth blocked Eve’s mouth with her index finger, interrupting the latter’s begging:
“Are you that afraid of your family meeting with an accident?”
After a moment of silence, Eve grit her teeth and nodded.
“Is that so? Then let me ask you, if I really wanted to kill your whole family, what should you do to stop me?”
Truth looked at Eve’s panicked appearance and revealed a half-smile, as if saying: “You know what to do.”
