“I feel like those two are suspected of flaunting their affection right now,” Ye Qingchang said, standing at the door as she watched Liu Anran walk through the crowd while carrying Liu Xie.
Liu Xie’s face was beet red.
He had probably reached his limit.
Exclamations of surprise erupted from the surroundings. To most people, this seemed like the ideal image of a prince and princess. It felt like a grand wedding, and they were all witnesses to the union.
“Isn’t it fine as long as they have a good relationship? It’s better than that half-dead look he had a few days ago.” Ye Qingchang didn’t really care. “I sent the second-oldest a game link yesterday and the day before, but he didn’t even show up. Besides, doesn’t he look pretty happy? Maybe he’s actually enjoying himself.”
It was just like a stray cat. If the petting didn’t feel good, the kitty would naturally run away or temporarily super-evolve into a cranky old-timer.
From the looks of Liu Xie now, he was probably secretly enjoying it in his heart.
“Really?” Zhu Niao craned her neck to steal a glance. “I don’t believe it.”
Ye Qingchang glanced at Zhu Niao, then at Gou Yu standing behind her. “You’ll know if it’s true if you try it yourself.”
“Try what…?”
Before Zhu Niao could finish her sentence, a sudden sense of weightlessness hit her. Her entire body was hoisted into the air.
Gou Yu, who was holding her up, let out a loud shout: “Simba!”
Zhu Niao’s expression remained calm, as if she were already used to this sort of thing happening. “Now I believe that what you said is true.”
Following that was the sound of Gou Yu wailing as his kidney took a heavy hit.
Yang Shuli had run off with Xu Nian again. No one knew what they were up to. Perhaps a new shop had opened somewhere, or a new arcade had appeared.
Last time, Zhu Niao had even seen Yang Shuli and Xu Nian playing on a ten-yuan children’s pirate ship together. Their dorm leader had practically tried to crawl into Xu Nian’s lap.
But none of that really mattered.
Ye Qingchang couldn’t seem to stand walking with Zhu Niao and Gou Yu. It always made her feel like a third wheel.
Liu Xie and she were originally the “Smart Twin Stars” of the third-wheel family, but now Liu Xie had betrayed the revolution. She mourned his departure, yet she still had to continue her duties as a third wheel alone.
It was a bit frustrating.
“Number Three, where are you going?”
“Today is the club recruitment for the freshmen. Although I’ve already submitted my resignation, I’m still the president of the Literature Club during the transition period. I have to show my face.”
If anyone asked, it was because the accountability meetings from above always moved faster than the processing of a resignation. This was something Ye Qingchang had already experienced.
She could have ignored it, but if just sitting there for a while could avoid trouble, she was more than willing to do it.
It was also a perfect way to escape the nauseatingly sweet couple next to her.
“Look at that, now that’s a good president of the people. President Ye, always thinking of her duties while in her position.” Zhu Niao even began to lead a round of applause. “Even if she’s resigned, as long as she’s on duty for one more day, she’ll serve the people. It’s so touching.”
Gou Yu stood nearby, pretending to wipe away tears while hopping slightly with his hands raised. “You came from Dandong — “
“Seriously, if there’s something wrong with your brains, I suggest going to the hospital as soon as possible. Don’t wait until you’re old and it’s untreatable to regret it.”
Zhu Niao patted her chest. “Then you’re still underestimating me. For a guy like me, the hospital usually begs me to go when the time comes.”
Ye Qingchang didn’t even look back. She raised a middle finger and walked away.
She was headed to the school’s small playground, where the club recruitment was being held.
Every club had a specifically assigned spot, usually consisting of two or three tables. From there, it was up to their own abilities to recruit new members.
Regardless, Ye Qingchang wasn’t planning on recruiting anyone. She would just sit there, play on her phone, and wait for the entire event to end.
Since it was autumn, the sun was still out. Before she even reached the area, she could see colorful sunshades erected in the center of the playground.
This was the site of the club recruitment.
Because there were so many clubs — estimated to be nearly 100 — the girls in her dorm called this the “Hundred-Club War.”
It looked a bit like a flea market. Clubs were scattered around the perimeter like street vendors hawking their wares, while a large stage stood in the center.
It was likely the Dance Club or something similar showing off their moves to provide eye candy for the new students while simultaneously tricking them into joining.
Ye Qingchang wouldn’t use such underhanded tactics.
When she was recruited last year, the seniors of the Literature Club had practically clung to her and Xiao Yi’an’s legs, begging them to join.
Later, she found out that she and Xiao Yi’an were seemingly the only ones left in the entire Literature Club this year. All the other seniors had graduated.
Because those seniors hadn’t managed to recruit a single person in the previous two years, Ye Qingchang was now the president, and Xiao Yi’an was the sole member.
It was essentially a mess left behind for Ye Qingchang, but it was fine since she didn’t have to manage much anyway. She just had to go to the club room and read every now and then.
Now that she had resigned, either the Literature Club would dissolve, or Xiao Yi’an would become the president. None of it mattered to her.
In any case, it wasn’t her problem anymore.
“Excuse me, classmate. Could you tell me where the Literature Club’s recruitment booth is?”
Ye Qingchang stopped a student on the path. Seeing the ID badge around his neck, she guessed he was from the Student Union maintaining order. He would definitely know the location.
Indeed, as the president attending the recruitment, Ye Qingchang didn’t even know where her own club’s booth was.
The notification had actually been sent out long ago. On the day of the announcement, most club members would come to set up their booths, decorating them to make them look interesting enough to lure in freshmen.
But since Ye Qingchang wasn’t recruiting, she hadn’t set anything up. She didn’t even plan to hang up the Literature Club’s sign. She would just pretend she was some random person playing on her phone at the event.
Phones were just too much fun.
“You’re looking for the Literature Club too?”
“Too?”
Ye Qingchang realized something seemed off.
“The Literature Club is… over there. Walk that way. It’s the second-to-last one. There are a lot of people, so you’ll see it when you get close.”
“Okay, thanks.”
Ye Qingchang knit her brows.
She was still dressed in her usual all-black outfit.
That single streak of black cut through all the other colors as she walked.
She thought that all of this might be due to her change in identity.
Perhaps, along with her turning into a girl, the butterfly effect had caused her photos to leak. Then her identity as the Literature Club president had leaked as well. Maybe she had even become a bit famous, leading the freshmen to follow the scent.
Since the Literature Club had so few people — only her and Xiao Yi’an — those freshmen were in for a surprise. Once her resignation went through, the president wouldn’t be Ye Qingchang anymore.
She walked toward the Literature Club’s recruitment spot with a smirk.
Then she saw Xiao Yi’an busy hosting a crowd of new students.
What the hell.
Poor lonely third wheel.
