“Look, man. To be blunt, there’s actually no need to worry about Liu Xie and Liu Anran at all.”
In the classroom, Zhu Niao began to speak eloquently, acting much like a failed art student in a Munich tavern.
“Oh?”
Ye Qingchang, who was pretending to take notes but had actually brought the wrong book, glanced at the professor teaching the elective course. She then turned her head back to Zhu Niao. “I’m all ears.”
“First of all, we need to understand the relationship between the two of them. They are siblings.” Zhu Niao held up one finger.
Ye Qingchang looked away.
The only things worth hearing from her roommates were their conclusions. If one had to follow their step-by-step reasoning, the process was as obscure as apocryphal history—and just as fake.
It was just like how Zhu Niao had previously deduced that Zhou Yu was actually a little girl.
Her reasoning was that everyone called him by his courtesy name, Gongjin.
To make matters worse, there were unofficial stories based on lowbrow homophones related to that name.
So, she now intended to treat Zhu Niao’s reasoning as nothing more than background noise.
Regardless, Zhu Niao never said anything useful anyway.
“Secondly, we know that Liu Anran confessed to Liu Xie yesterday.”
“Look, man, this unofficial history of yours is a bit too wild.” Ye Qingchang reached out and grabbed the cowlick on top of Zhu Niao’s head.
Zhu Niao didn’t originally have a cowlick. It was likely that her head had fought a battle with her pillow while she slept last night, as a single, extremely stubborn strand of hair was now standing straight up on her crown.
“What gives you the right to call my history wild!”
Zhu Niao was indignant. She wanted to slap the table next to her to add a layer of intimidation to her aura, but her palm landed directly on Gou Yu, who was sleeping nearby.
“Ow!” Gou Yu shrieked in pain.
“What’s with the shouting? Stand up!” the teacher barked from the front.
As the culprit, Zhu Niao merely gave Gou Yu a cold glance before continuing her debate with Ye Qingchang.
As for Yang Shuli? That girl seemed to be getting closer and closer to Xu Nian. She even asked Xu Nian to save a seat for her now so she could sit right next to him.
“You just said, first, they’re siblings, and then you said she confessed.” Although Ye Qingchang did feel that Liu Anran’s attitude toward Liu Xie was a bit strange, she continued, “Don’t those two sentences contradict each other? Is your left brain arguing with your right, or is that cowlick of yours responsible for all the thinking?”
Ye Qingchang even reached out to tug on Zhu Niao’s cowlick.
“Wah!” With her lifeline seized, Zhu Niao flailed her hands wildly like a drowning person. “What I’m saying is true! I have evidence!”
Ye Qingchang let go. “Then the defense may now present the evidence.”
Zhu Niao took out her phone and skipped the video to the very last segment. “Please watch the clip.”
[Liu Xie, I love you!]
The loud shout caused the entire classroom to fall silent for a moment.
Ye Qingchang was stunned at first. Then, she and Zhu Niao—who had hurriedly hidden her phone—began to look around frantically, as if trying to find out who had been watching videos in class without turning off the sound.
However, she realized the teacher was staring directly at them.
Ye Qingchang looked up. The teacher’s raised arm had a single finger pointing straight at her.
She looked to her side in shock and anger, only to see Zhu Niao pointing at her as well.
Zhu Niao’s lips moved silently: ‘Sorry, but for the sake of the brothers, one of us has to step up.’
‘We were just talking about Liu Xie, and you sell me out just like that?’ Ye Qingchang’s pupils shook.
‘Number Two is already dead. You picked this, idol.’
Ye Qingchang glanced at the teacher on the podium, let out a long sigh, and stood up.
“What are you two mumbling about? You, get up too.” Gou Yu grabbed Zhu Niao by her cowlick and pulled her up, accompanied by her wailing.
Now all three of them were standing. Not far away, the other three—Xu Nian, Yang Shuli, and Xiao Yi’an—were holding up their phones to take pictures of the trio standing in the back row.
“Alright, let’s continue our topic.” Zhu Niao’s expression turned calm again, as if she were about to discuss matters of national importance.
“My God, we just got called out by the teacher, and now you want to continue?”
“Are you in or not?”
“I’m in. Since I’m already standing, there’s no risk left.” Ye Qingchang was quite decisive. “Where did that video come from? Is it legitimate?”
“Absolutely legitimate.” Zhu Niao brought the video out again and played it on mute several times until Ye Qingchang, with the help of her commentary, fully understood the situation. “My manager happened to be there and saw it personally. It’s a true story.”
Gou Yu, standing beside them, cast a sidelong glance.
He had already seen this video twice.
The first time was when his younger sister sent it to him. The second time was when Zhu Niao held his head and forced him to watch it after he got home last night.
“So, what you’re saying is, Brother Two’s worries were all for nothing, and Liu Anran had her own plans all along?” Ye Qingchang arched an eyebrow. “Then why didn’t she tell him in advance? Making such a mess of things… I really thought something bad had happened.”
“Hey, don’t be hasty. This is what I think.” Zhu Niao dragged the video back to the final confession scene. “Look here. She confessed to him directly. Is it possible she ignored him for a while just so he would know what life is like without her, before following up with the confession?”
“What a sinister move!” Ye Qingchang gasped. “Shouldn’t that kind of overbearing CEO only have business in their head and know nothing about romance?”
“I don’t know. Either way, it looks like Brother Two is being played like a fiddle.” Zhu Niao shrugged.
“You mean Brother Two is about to be caught?”
Zhu Niao wagged her index finger. “I wouldn’t be so sure! Our Brother Two isn’t someone who can be caught so easily. At the very least, he has some sense of propriety.”
During their conversation, a bundle of gold crawled up to the desk next to them.
Liu Xie glanced at the two startled girls and raised her hand. “Teacher, I went to the bathroom just now and forgot to sign in. My name is Liu Xie.”
“So you’re the one who got confessed to? You, stand up too!”
Liu Xie stood up with a dazed look in her eyes.
Beside her, Ye Qingchang and Zhu Niao were struggling to hold back their laughter, while Yang Shuli was busy taking photos not far away.
“Wait, why am I involved when I wasn’t even in class just now?”
Seeing that Liu Xie was in good spirits, Ye Qingchang finally spoke up. “Aren’t you going to explain things to your brothers? What exactly is the situation right now?”
Ye Qingchang felt that no matter what, Zhu Niao’s words still felt like unofficial history. It was better to hear it from the person involved.
Liu Xie rubbed her chin and thought for a while, as if trying to extract a single conclusion from the recent events.
Finally, she managed to summarize it. “I am now Liu Anran’s fiancée.”
“That sentence is on par with Zhou Yu being a little girl.”
