After escaping for the second time, Yin Lin flew into a residential building, rushed inside, and found a dark corner to hide in. She then did something incredibly risky: she canceled her transformation and immediately transformed again.
She needed to protect her Yao Ruoning persona. If she fought the enemies in the state she was in, her disguised appearance as Yao Ruoning would be exposed. To preserve the mask, she had to remove the makeup. The fastest way to do that was to cancel the transformation and restart it instantly. This also regenerated her magical girl uniform, providing her with a certain level of defense.
The person who had helped her earlier certainly felt the massive surge of energy suddenly appearing in the building, and the Fail Squad likely sensed it too. The captain directed his team, assuming Yin Lin was probably furious and preparing to counterattack, which explained the sudden commotion.
His deduction was correct. Just as they began to shift from offense to defense, Yin Lin emerged from the building. Clad in her magical girl uniform, she appeared before the crowd in her formal state. She flew past the destroyed vehicle cannon and noticed who her mysterious helper was.
It was Green Field in her civilian clothes, intentionally suppressing her magical aura. ‘She actually dares to show her face?’ Yin Lin thought. She didn’t have time to deal with her right now. She needed to vent her frustrations first!
Rising dozens of meters into the sky, she ascended past the rooftops and spotted the members of the Fail Squad aiming their guns at her. They looked worried and afraid, yet excited and high-strung. They opened fire on Yin Lin in the sky using photon rifles.
The captain was busy commanding some members to retake the vehicle cannon, as that was the only weapon capable of threatening Yin Lin. Seeing this, Yin Lin made her move. Her floating staff pointed toward the squad members on the roof who were firing at her.
They actually had other preparations ready. They moved into a defensive formation, with the front two members holding shields while the ones behind used them as cover to shoot at Yin Lin. Yin Lin didn’t bother dodging, choosing to tank the hits in midair. She launched her counterattack, firing rapid magic cannons. Small light bullets, like Little Beans, slammed into the shields of the Fail Squad on the roof.
They couldn’t penetrate the shields and were blocked. After firing more than ten consecutive rounds without a breakthrough, the bullets only managed to crack the shields. Web-like fractures appeared on the surface, looking like bullets hitting bulletproof glass.
The Fail Squad’s photon rifles couldn’t harm her either. No matter how dense the fire was, it was useless. As long as they couldn’t shatter her magical shield in a single instant, she could easily manifest a new one.
These people thought that bullying these magical girls was like picking on children—something they could do without consequences. They had no idea that the thirty-four-year-old man inside was currently fuming. The pressure from work, the stress of life, the weight of his age, and the lingering rage from being toyed with by Green Field were all boiling over. Though he had vented some of it by giving Green Field a beating, the frustration of being cooped up in the hospital for more than half a month came rushing back.
Being ambushed today was like a spark hitting a gas tank. She stopped firing the Little Beans and began to charge her power.
Seeing this, the squad members on the roof began to sweat profusely. Everyone was familiar with Yin Lin; they knew that her charging up was the prelude to something devastating. The captain still hadn’t issued a retreat order, demanding that the rooftop members continue to draw her attention. In gaming terms, he wanted them to ‘Taunt’ the boss and hold her ‘Aggro’.
‘Dammit, this is a suicide mission,’ one of them thought. This silver-haired girl was no gentle lamb; she was the Queen of Destruction, a damage-dealing ceiling capable of melting high-level monsters with a single blast. Once she started charging, the countdown to the end of the battle had begun.
“Captain, we think she’s really angry. She’s been charging for a while now,” a member of the Fail Squad said, wiping sweat from his cheek.
“Delay for one more minute! We’re almost ready here!” the captain shouted. He was preoccupied.
The magical girl Green Field was right next to the vehicle cannon, and she was attacking the Fail Squad with rare, proactive aggression. She was playing rough. The Fail Squad’s detachment tried to storm the vehicle cannon again.
Dozens of photon rifle rounds were fired at Green Field, but she dodged them all, weaving nimbly through the alleys between buildings. Catching a favorable opening, she lashed out with her mana-infused whip. She had already shattered the arms of several squad members—bones were snapped, not just dislocated. One member was even caught around the neck by the whip and hung from a lamppost for ten seconds, nearly snapping his cervical spine.
Green Field was showing actual killing intent today; something was very wrong. She was only half a step away from killing a human.
The captain was aware of this, but he gritted his teeth and pushed for the assault to continue. The team moved more cautiously, sticking to cover and trying to use vehicles to block the damage. However, the cars they used for cover were sliced in half by Green Field’s whip, hitting the members behind them. A single sweep of the whip sent the entire team flying; more were heavily injured than lightly wounded.
Back on the roof, Yin Lin released a 5% charged magic cannon, blowing away the shields in the front row. The uniforms and helmets of the two shield-bearers were shredded, and they suffered moderately heavy injuries from the blast. Others close by took minor injuries, while those with quick reflexes managed to escape unscathed.
Even without orders from their superior, the squad members began to retreat with their wounded comrades. They no longer dared to carry out the capture mission. Seeing his forces in shambles, the captain of the Fail Squad finally had no choice but to order a full retreat. The mission was a failure.
Yin Lin hadn’t vented enough yet. She chased after them, firing rapid magic cannons for the sheer satisfaction of it, peppering everyone with injuries. Human magical defense was far inferior to that of a magical girl. Even their body armor couldn’t completely withstand the Little Beans, which left small holes all over their gear.
As they fled toward their armored vehicles, Yin Lin fired another 5% charged magic cannon, destroying the transport.
‘You want a ride? Walk home,’ she thought.
Watching their pathetic figures disappear into the distance, Yin Lin continued to charge her magic cannon before turning around to stare into the darkness of the street. She couldn’t see Green Field with her naked eye, nor could she sense her. That girl was in civilian clothes and wasn’t carrying anything that radiated magic.
Had she left? Impossible. Based on what the gold, silver, and red sisters knew of Green Field, that girl’s “itch” had probably reached an unbearable level. There was no way she would leave.
Yin Lin didn’t dare move recklessly, unsure of which direction Green Field might be using for an ambush. The safest thing to do was to keep charging; a magic cannon could solve any problem.
In this critical moment, her phone suddenly regained signal and vibrated. A message had arrived. She ignored it, but it vibrated again two seconds later.
She pulled out her phone to see a message from Huang Yi.
**[The previous operation was not authorized by us. They acted on their own after gaining autonomy.]**
Huang Yi: **[I need a favor from you now. Pretend to be captured by Green Field.]**
Huang Yi: **[This is extremely important. It concerns the safety of the world. We need you to save the world. We have been preparing this plan for more than half a month.]**
‘Huh? How does this involve world safety?’ Yin Lin thought. ‘Being captured by Green Field means being tortured. I’m not some masochist.’
Huang Yi: **[We can see you right now. She will take you, and we will track you the entire way to ensure your safety.]**
Huang Yi: **[Please, this is vital to us. We will fulfill your wishes to the best of our ability afterward.]**
