After cleaning up the scene, Luo Shuangyue fell into a dilemma. Where should they go next?
Should they keep wandering aimlessly in this place, or… maybe set a goal?
“What should we do…”
“Magic Tide? Here in this place?”
“With such a scale, it’s definitely the largest Black Calamity. We’re going to have another powerful Kin.”
“Anxing is the closest to this location, but the Sanctuary might send people to eliminate our Kin.”
Sitting around a pitch-black, three-dimensional map, the shadowy black figures watched the giant vortex that appeared on the map, whispering in hushed tones.
The location of this Black Calamity’s outbreak was quite delicate in its distance from the Sanctuary.
A bit closer, and the Sanctuary’s forces would be enough to give them a headache.
A bit farther, and the Sanctuary wouldn’t dare risk so much to intervene in this Black Calamity.
Now, with this not-too-close, not-too-far distance, the Sanctuary’s actions became highly unpredictable.
No one knew what choice the Sanctuary would make.
They might send their main force to eliminate the threat, or perhaps choose to hide like a turtle and turn a blind eye.
“We don’t have the extra energy to focus there. This new Kin… Manzhu, you go to support Anxing. If the Sanctuary doesn’t send many people, bring her back. If you can’t match them, leave with Anxing.”
A voice instantly suppressed all the fragmented discussions. In this room, there was only one being with such status.
That was the Demon Emperor, who had realized that fighting alone would only mean a slow death, and that only unity could lead to victory.
She was also the one addressed as “senior” by all the Royals in this world.
“Anxing isn’t like us. She cares too much about those Newborn Kin. If she wants to go throw her life away, I might not be able to stop her,” Manzhu, the one named by the senior, let out a soft snort.
“She’s not someone who doesn’t understand the bigger picture. Tell her this is my order. Our plan is about to succeed—nothing can go wrong now, and we can’t afford to lose even the slightest strength.”
The senior gave Manzhu no room to bargain; her orders were absolutely clear.
Even if that newborn Kin died, Anxing, this already recruited Demon Emperor, couldn’t be allowed to get into trouble. The plan to destroy the Sanctuary took top priority—everything else came after.
“Before you leave, go find that person and ask for some Magic Crystals.”
“Yes, yes, I know.”
“The wind has changed.” After flying aimlessly toward Anxing’s location for two days, Luo Shuangyue keenly sensed something odd.
The flow of magic in the air had changed.
It was a mysterious, almost inexplicable feeling.
The magical environment around her didn’t seem much different, but an indistinct intuition told her that a change was taking place.
Zheng and Xiaozi felt nothing of the sort.
Luo Shuangyue suspected it was because her own perception was sharper than these two Royal-level girls.
Although her current strength was at the peak of the Demon King, her rank was that of a true Demon Emperor, so being able to sense things Demon Kings couldn’t was perfectly normal.
More importantly, Anxing was also in the direction she needed to go. She had to find Anxing anyway, so she could handle both matters at once.
If she ran into Anxing along the way, she could ask her what was going on.
“Could it be that a new Black Calamity is about to erupt?” Luo Shuangyue wondered silently.
Previously, Anxing had told her that as a fellow Demon Emperor, she should also be able to sense the aura of a Black Calamity—except Luo Shuangyue hadn’t fully recovered her strength yet, so her sensing ability was a bit lacking.
Given the current circumstances, it did seem like this could be explained by that sensing ability.
The only problem was Luo Shuangyue didn’t feel that her perception had improved. So why could she suddenly sense the aura of this Black Calamity?
Using the method of controlling variables, Luo Shuangyue easily found an explanation: this Black Calamity was making such a huge commotion that even a Demon Emperor with half-crippled senses like her could pick up the ominous aura.
In other words, this Black Calamity wasn’t going to be some trivial scuffle with a King-level magical beast that lasted less than a day, but a grand event that would last for many days, have an immense impact, and give birth to a powerful Demon Emperor!
“A Demon Emperor… That’s probably not good news.” Rubbing her temples in mild distress, Luo Shuangyue couldn’t decide for the moment whether or not to join the chaos.
The birth of a Demon Emperor was no trivial matter. Without a doubt, Anxing would certainly head there, trying to recruit the newly born Demon Emperor to her side.
The worst case would be if Anxing failed to negotiate and ended up fighting with the new Demon King.
Then, the three cuties on Luo Shuangyue’s side would be forced to play a game of escape in the shockwaves of a battle between two Demon Emperors.
Moreover, Luo Shuangyue felt that the birth of a Demon Emperor wouldn’t be considered a small matter in this world—Anxing probably wouldn’t be the only one drawn in by the commotion.
Her current identity was somewhat awkward.
If she ran into the Natives of this world, she’d definitely be hunted.
If she met so-called “allies,” she couldn’t exactly join in with a clear conscience.
It really was a troublesome situation.
“Tch, whatever happens, I have to go. Even just getting a taste of Demonic Energy from the outskirts is good enough!” After hesitating for a while, Luo Shuangyue finally made her decision.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
The birth of a Demon Emperor was the best opportunity she’d found so far.
If she could sneak a little of the Demon Emperor’s power, that was a small victory; if she could devour an entire Demon Emperor and advance herself, that wasn’t impossible either!
If something really went wrong, she could always hide behind Anxing and let this family hero among magical creatures be her shield.
“From here on, we might face a Life Threat. Zheng, you can choose not to follow me,” Luo Shuangyue said, turning to Zheng after making her decision.
Unlike Xiaozi, this girl didn’t belong to her, so she couldn’t force Zheng to do anything she didn’t want to do.
In terms of strength, Luo Shuangyue was naturally stronger than Zheng, but neither of them truly counted as traditional magical creatures anymore, and she didn’t want to use a magical creature’s ways to make Zheng obey.
In fact, Luo Shuangyue was actually hoping Zheng would choose to stay behind and part ways, so she could hand Xiaozi over to Zheng as well, and go probe that dragon’s den alone.
“No, I want to go with you. My intuition tells me that following you is the right choice.” Zheng shook her head.
Even though she hadn’t remembered anything in the past month, she still felt that staying with Luo Shuangyue was the best option.
To put it simply, Luo Shuangyue gave off an aura that made her want to trust.
She didn’t know what she was supposed to do in the future either, so with no clear direction, she’d just follow her intuition and trail after Luo Shuangyue, moving forward bit by bit.
“Alright, but don’t blame me for not warning you. If a real fight breaks out and things get dangerous, I might not have time to save you
“Don’t worry, I’m not that weak. I can still protect myself.” The corners of Zheng’s mouth lifted slightly. Unlike Xiaozi, whose fangs had been pulled out, she hadn’t had too much Demonic Energy drained by Luo Shuangyue.
Although Luo Shuangyue came looking for her every night before dusk to ask for a little Demonic Energy, that much loss wasn’t a big burden to her.
“Since you’ve decided, I won’t say more. Come on, let’s go take a look over there!”
Once the journey truly began, Luo Shuangyue felt just how vast this world was.
She flew for three days and two nights without rest before finally reaching the place where the entire sky was dyed black by a massive vortex.
This was supposed to be a primeval forest, but with the advent of the Black Calamity, the once-vibrant forest had been utterly destroyed.
Everything here had become a sacrifice to the descent of the Demon Emperor.
Towering trees melted into pitch-black sludge, and otherworldly creatures of various sizes, stained black, lay on the ground letting out mournful cries.
Indeed, there were many creatures in this forest.
They looked nothing like the beings Luo Shuangyue was familiar with, but in the face of the Black Calamity, they, like the small creatures Luo Shuangyue knew, had no power to resist.
Every time a Demon Emperor-level disaster broke out, the ones hurt most were never humans, but these little creatures.
(Except for Demon Emperor disasters that break out directly in cities—those even the Magic Department finds troublesome.)
“There’s no saving them. Their bodies have been completely eroded by Demonic Energy. It won’t be long before they die.” Luo Shuangyue made her judgment with an expressionless face after glancing at the animals howling on the ground.
These animals were just like that Transhuman she’d met before, the one injected directly with a vial of Demon Emperor’s Demonic Energy—they were utterly beyond saving.
The ferocious Demonic Energy was both transforming their bodies and tormenting their lives.
“Gah!” A Four-Winged Creature with pitch-black eyes let out a roar in the sky, then swooped down toward Luo Shuangyue.
