Not only was it floating in mid-air, it was also emitting crisp explosive sounds. The original spear shaft was being crushed bit by bit, transforming into a brand new structure.
The Star Spear and the Black Butterfly fused together, turning into a Monster Girl butterfly that looked even more fierce and terrifying.
And it seemed this butterfly had no intention of living in harmony with everyone.
“Run! This thing isn’t right!” Luo Shuangyue grabbed the Demon Emperor girl’s hand and hurried to escape.
As for Anxing, since her strength was much greater than hers, she certainly wouldn’t fall here.
The moment she saw this Weird Butterfly, Luo Shuangyue had no intention of fighting at all.
She was keenly aware that her power shared the same origin as this thing.
Not only would her attacks be ineffective against the butterfly, but just like Anxing’s attack, they would actually empower it.
Anxing had originally intended to fight, but seeing Luo Shuangyue’s decisive escape, she immediately chose to trust Luo Shuangyue’s judgment.
This butterfly really was too strange. It was better not to be careless in dealing with it.
But the Weird Butterfly refused to let them go.
With a flap of its wings, made of black spear fragments, it closely pursued the fleeing group.
However, its attack methods seemed rather limited.
Its only long-range means of attack was to throw spear fragments from its wings, and after throwing them, it couldn’t create new fragments.
It had to fly over and pick them up itself.
Such a weak offensive capability almost made Luo Shuangyue laugh, but remembering how restrained she was by this thing, she couldn’t bring herself to laugh at all.
“This thing… isn’t something we can handle.” Luo Shuangyue glanced back at the hideous butterfly, unable to suppress a surge of fear in her heart.
This was her instinct—or rather, the instinct of a monster.
The moment she saw this creature, Luo Shuangyue clearly realized that this thing was not something she—or any other monster—could defeat.
She needed some other kind of power.
“Anxing, do you know the way to the Sanctuary? I need to find my companions. Maybe they can help us deal with this thing!” When a monster couldn’t solve the problem, Luo Shuangyue could only think of letting a Magical Girl handle it.
This creature’s existence struck right at the origin of monsters. No matter how powerful a monster was, it would never be able to defeat this kind of monster.
You can’t twist an arm against a thigh; every attack filled with demonic energy would only make this creature stronger.
To deal with something like this, surely a Magical Girl was more suited to the task.
After all, Magical Girls were the ones who could purify monsters until not even a trace remained!
“I do, but they’re not on the same path as us. I can only try to lead you in that direction,” Anxing glanced back at the Weird Butterfly still chasing them relentlessly.
She didn’t know why Luo Shuangyue would immediately think of those two otherworlders she had spared, but she was willing to trust Luo Shuangyue this time.
Her own instincts were warning her, too: if that butterfly caught up, the outcome would be disastrous.
“That will do. Let me think if there’s any other way…” Luo Shuangyue knocked her head in frustration. Trying to think while running was just too hard, and she clearly wasn’t good at multitasking…
Wait a minute, escaping didn’t require any special skills—why not let Little Butterfly do it for her?
With this thought, Luo Shuangyue quickly called for Little Butterfly.
Little Butterfly responded, “Now you think of me? I’m really not in the mood to deal with you right now.”
Luo Shuangyue immediately replied, “We’re real sisters, born of the same parents, partners in fate—if I go down, you go down too. Now’s not the time to be petty. Hurry up and switch places!”
“I’ll go into the consciousness space and chat with Phantom Thorn. Maybe I’ll find a solution!”
With this logical and emotional plea, Little Butterfly was finally convinced.
As soon as Little Butterfly took over, Luo Shuangyue’s consciousness dived deep, arriving at the slightly restored manor ruins where Phantom Thorn resided.
“Phantom Thorn, help! Please help!” No sooner had she landed than Luo Shuangyue grabbed Phantom Thorn’s hand, begging, “Only you can help me now!”
As she spoke, she shared her memories with Phantom Thorn, so Phantom Thorn could understand the situation.
After reading through Luo Shuangyue’s memories, Phantom Thorn was silent for a long, long time.
At last, she looked up and asked, “What the hell is that thing?”
Phantom Thorn considered herself a well-versed Demon Emperor.
She knew all the knowledge a Demon Emperor should, but the thing Luo Shuangyue had conjured up—she truly had no idea what it was.
She couldn’t understand it, but she was utterly shocked.
“I don’t know either, but I suspect this is the embodiment of the innate Evil Desire of Destruction that monsters carry. My mana absorbed it, so the Demon Emperor that was just born behaved so gently.” Luo Shuangyue fired off her guess in a rapid stream.
But none of that mattered—the important thing was how to deal with it.
“Magical energy attacks won’t work. I think the best way is to find Xia Mo and have her use Magical Girl powers to defeat it.”
Battling monsters was the specialty of Magical Girls.
But first, she’d have to find Xia Mo, and Luo Shuangyue wasn’t keen on dumping the trouble she’d caused onto Xia Mo.
“Is there a way for me to use an attack similar to a Magical Girl’s?”
“You’re really giving me a tough one. A monster using attacks similar to a Magical Girl’s…” Phantom Thorn held her head, brainstorming.
She didn’t even have the energy to complain that Luo Shuangyue had gotten her into trouble again. She had to rummage through her memories for anything useful.
As she pondered, a thought suddenly struck her.
Luo Shuangyue might now be a Demon Emperor, but the information from everything she consumed as a Magical Girl should still be there.
In other words, she should be able to mimic Magical Girl mana.
If she used Nightmare Power to deal with the butterfly, maybe it would work.
“Can I really do that?” Luo Shuangyue’s eyes widened. After becoming Demon Emperor, she’d never thought about using Nightmare Power, after all, how could a Demon Emperor use Magical Girl powers?
But now, with Phantom Thorn’s suggestion, hope ignited in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, she could really mimic it?
“If you don’t try, how will you know? Do you have a better idea right now?” Phantom Thorn rolled her eyes. Other than making a desperate attempt, what other choice did she have?
Face reality. This was her only viable option.
“Alright, I’ll give it a try. Wait for my good news!”
Her conversation with Phantom Thorn took over ten minutes. After gaining this possible—if uncertain—solution, Luo Shuangyue quickly left the consciousness space and regained control of her body.
Immediately, she began following Phantom Thorn’s instructions, attempting to replicate the mana she had once consumed.
When it came to deciding which kind of mana to copy, Luo Shuangyue hesitated only briefly before deciding. The Star Mana’s battle effect was unclear, and copying her mother’s White Night Mana was too exhausting.
She really only had one choice: to use her little sister’s mana.
“Mm…” As soon as the transformation began, Luo Shuangyue felt as if her body was burning. The Nightmare Power she produced felt like a blazing fire, continuously scorching her body.
Of course, the power of a Magical Girl could never coexist harmoniously with that of a monster.
Even if they were created by Luo Shuangyue herself, they would still unintentionally harm her.
However, this level of pain was still bearable.
Gritting her teeth, she shaped the mana she produced, grasped the white mana spear with her right hand that kept emitting black smoke, and thrust the spear at the monster butterfly chasing her.
In the next instant, the white light struck the creature. There was no deafening explosion, no commotion as Luo Shuangyue expected. The clash between butterfly and white spear ended in a flash.
The monster absorbed the white spear, and part of its body also vanished into smoke along with the spear.
“Mutual destruction, huh? It looks like you really do need to use a Magical Girl’s power to deal with things like this.”
Luo Shuangyue calculated in her mind. She’d have to spend about half her mana to purify the butterfly completely.
In terms of magical power, that was about the total mana of a freshly advanced First Bloom-Class Magical Girl?
Hmm, that was pretty normal, considering it was just something drawn out of a king-class monster’s body. It shouldn’t require emperor-level power to purify.
If not for Anxing’s earlier attack, Luo Shuangyue thought she might have purified the butterfly with even less effort.
But who could have predicted this situation? She told herself she would never do anything this foolish again.
