“No, you can’t, you can’t!”
Within the Mist, under God’s Perspective, Little Mist had already witnessed more than a dozen squads fall victim to Truth’s cruel and inhuman traps.
Ambushes around corners, hidden pitfalls, endless tricks—adventurers’ screams echoed throughout the Mist, making Little Mist so anxious that it circled frantically around Truth.
At this moment, Little Mist watched as a team of adventurers, who had only just entered the “Mist Wolf Den,” approached the end of a forked path where a Treasure Chest was placed.
“No, you mustn’t go any further!”
Little Mist desperately wanted to rush out and block the adventurers’ way, because several squads in a row had already been done in by this very Treasure Chest.
The moment anyone got close to the Treasure Chest, three Mist Wolves, already lying in ambush above, would instantly pounce from the air and surround the unsuspecting adventurer in a deadly trap!
And if the other teammates failed to come to the rescue in time, then the one near the Treasure Chest would…
Absolutely cannot let another tragedy happen, I have to warn them… Ugh, why can’t I move, damn this human!
Little Mist had long wanted to enter the dungeon to warn adventurers where danger lurked, but its body was always tightly held in Truth’s grasp.
So Little Mist was growing frantic.
The more anxious it became, the more delighted Truth was:
“Tsk tsk, you’re not even the one getting hurt, so why do you seem more nervous than those adventurers?”
“Didn’t you hear their desperate cries for help? Let me go right now, or else I’ll—!”
“Or else what?”
“I’ll, I’ll…” Only now did Little Mist realize there was nothing it could do against Truth, and its tone gradually weakened.
Then, Truth suddenly curled her lips into a smile and kindly “reminded” Little Mist:
“Look, the captain of that squad is about to reach the Treasure Chest!”
Reflexively, Little Mist used God’s Perspective to look.
At the end of the forked path, where the Treasure Chest stood, Lei Se—the captain of the Lei Se Squad—was approaching the wooden Treasure Chest in a fit of excitement.
Just as his hand was about to touch the Treasure Chest, a fierce wolf’s howl rang out from above!
The next second, three fully grown Mist Wolves, half the height of a man, plummeted from the sky, surrounding Lei Se and launching an attack without hesitation!
With the Mist Wolves tearing into him, the unguarded Lei Se let out a blood-curdling scream.
His companions froze in fear, and so did Little Mist, who was watching through God’s Perspective.
Even though Little Mist had seen this scene play out several times, every time its entire body trembled, and it struggled with all its strength to break free from Truth and rush to rescue the Lei Se Squad:
“Let me go, let me go!”
“Idiot, idiot, idiot, the more you yell, the less I’ll let you go. Besides, how many times do I have to explain? They all have Revival Art. As long as they don’t slack off and line up properly to farm slimes, at most they’ll just drop some equipment—their lives won’t be in danger.”
“See? Mist Energy is rising rapidly. You’ll definitely use this energy someday, right? Besides, how can you call it adventure if it doesn’t come with danger and opportunity? Don’t you agree?”
“What you say makes sense, but… but just watching others suffer right in front of me, I can’t do it!”
Little Mist continued to struggle with all its might.
“You muah, turns out you’re a bleeding-heart saint of a snake?!”
Truth immediately tossed the little snake to the ground in annoyance—she’d had enough of saintly characters like this from movies and stories.
That “Although he killed your parents, I’m sure he has his reasons” nonsense—Truth never wanted to hear that again.
Clearly, this little snake still needed to be properly trained. She’d have to find a chance later to cure its overflowing sympathy!
Truth rather wanted to take it out and show it the darko side of this world, but there were more important matters to handle for now.
After hearing the adventurers discussing how Huoyun Island had suddenly turned away from the Dea Plateau to head toward the Northern Frontier Mountains, Truth immediately realized that Heavenly Fire had fled.
This was exactly as she had predicted.
However, one thing did surprise her: using the Soul Location Spell to locate Ariel, Truth found that Ariel was still at the Dea Plateau, not following Huoyun Island away.
She’d planned to use Ariel to keep tracking Huoyun Island, but it seemed that one had just abandoned Heavenly Fire outright?
Or was it that she intended Ariel to stay as an undercover agent for her side?
“I’d like to see what scheme Heavenly Fire is up to!”
After a brief thought, Truth transformed into a stream of crimson blood and burrowed underground, traveling toward the spot where Huoyun Island had last stayed at a speed that would astound most people.
……
Meanwhile, once she confirmed that Truth had truly left, the Mist Feather Serpent, Little Mist, changed from its pitiful expression to one of determination.
Now that this human was gone, that meant Little Mist was the boss of the Mist! I can do whatever I want!
Thinking it over, Little Mist realized it could just dismantle those despair-ridden dungeons to the west, and even use Mist Energy to heal all these injured adventurers!
But then again—what if Truth came back later?
She did say I couldn’t use Build Mode or wield the Mist Energy as I pleased…
But she never said I couldn’t go warn the adventurers about dangers ahead, did she?
To avoid seeing people suffer again, just a few seconds after Truth left, Little Mist braved the risk of being turned into dried snake by Truth and resolutely entered the dungeon!
……
Five minutes later, at the entrance to a forked path in the third “Mist Wolf Den,” the Fanbulun Squad, having just defeated two Mist Wolves, was excited at having found a new passage.
Even more thrilling, at the end of the fork, a conspicuous wooden Treasure Chest sat quietly, waiting for them to open it.
“We’ve just come in and already found a Treasure Chest? The Goddess of Life is watching over us!”
Captain Fanbulun gave a simple prayer to the Goddess of Life, then strode joyfully toward the chest.
Just then, a small white snake less than a meter long suddenly darted out and blocked Fanbulun’s path:
“Hiss!”
“A snake?!” Fanbulun recoiled in surprise, then quickly realized this white snake monster was pathetically weak—even weaker than a Mist Wolf.
The little white snake didn’t attack, but kept hissing and pointing its slender tail toward the distant Treasure Chest, as if trying to communicate something.
Danger ahead!
Little Mist frantically warned Fanbulun, who stroked his bearded chin in thought, and then quickly made his decision.
He slowly lifted his right leg, took a step back, then kicked Little Mist flying:
“What snake? Screw off!”
Waving its tail at the Treasure Chest—was that supposed to be claiming ownership? Looks like this little snake is the guardian beast of the Treasure Chest, huh?
With strength like that, it dares hiss at me? Not even as strong as those Mist Wolves just now!
After booting Little Mist away, Fanbulun continued toward the Treasure Chest. Lying by the roadside, Little Mist was in total disbelief—did I just get kicked?
How… could this be?!
Right then, at the end of the forked path, a wolf’s howl erupted from above the Treasure Chest…
