“What were you two doing just now?”
“Nothing! We weren’t doing anything!”
“No, you definitely did something. Were you absorbing her power? But why from her mouth? Wouldn’t it be easier just to tear off her flesh and—”
“Stop! It’s my hobby, my habit. Can’t I do that? I just prefer to eat this way, is that not allowed?”
Dangling in the sky, carried by the Demon Emperor girl, Luo Shuangyue tried hard to explain what she and Xia Mo had done before parting: she wasn’t eating her; she was simply expressing her reluctance to say goodbye.
Besides, tearing off flesh to eat is far too brutal.
We’re Demon Emperors, shouldn’t our eating habits be a bit more refined?
If you act like a wild beast, tearing and biting, then what’s the point of having brains and intelligence?
“What’s your name?”
“Name? I only have a code name.”
“Then what’s your code name?”
“Anxing.”
Anxing? Luo Shuangyue mulled over this code name—indeed, it fit this girl’s style quite well.
But Morning Star is also a star, and Anxing is a star too.
The relationship between these two code names made her curious.
“Then, Senior Anxing, do you know who originally owned the little house by the Sea of Flowers Cottage?” Luo Shuangyue asked another question.
Since she was now going to infiltrate the enemy, she had to seize the chance to extract some information from Anxing.
For instance, she was very curious about who the owner of Sea of Flowers Cottage actually was.
The owner was a Demon, Anxing was also a Demon, and Anxing was even a member of a Monster Organization.
So, surely, that Monster Organization must know about the owner of Sea of Flowers Cottage, right?
A Demon who knew how to enjoy life—Luo Shuangyue was truly curious.
“You mean that house? It originally belonged to a member of our race, but she was unwilling to join us.”
“Oh, and then?”
“Our senior took action and captured her, locked her up.”
Damn, you guys really are rough about recruiting, Luo Shuangyue was greatly shocked.
She thought she was the first to be treated like this, but she didn’t expect there to be a poor senior before her, one who was even imprisoned.
“Why? Isn’t she one of your own?”
“Precisely because she’s our kind, we can’t let her roam outside. Every one of our kind must contribute to the upcoming plan—no one can sit back and enjoy life alone.” Anxing replied expressionlessly.
“We didn’t do anything excessive to her. She can do whatever she wants in her residence. All she needs to do is produce enough Magic Crystals.”
As she spoke, a mass of black energy surged from Anxing’s chest, sending a pitch-black crystal before Luo Shuangyue’s eyes.
This was the Magic Crystal she spoke of, which for Demons counted as quite nutritious food.
“So she was dragged off to do logistics, huh? Then can I go meet her? I’m really interested in her.”
“You can. You can see anyone, as long as the other side is willing to meet you.” Anxing withdrew the Magic Crystal, showing that their Monster Organization wasn’t all that strict.
All the Demon Emperor-level members were equal, with no hierarchy.
As for the lower-ranked Demons…well, equality was impossible for them.
Demons, after all, revered strength.
The difference between Demon Emperors was small, so when there was a powerful leader, the others could grudgingly accept this so-called equality.
But wanting them to be truly equal with the lower-level Demons—that was still a bit much.
But on the surface, they still had to act as if they were all equals.
“You’ve already acquired the ownership of this child, so I can’t say much more. But while in the organization, you’d better not use similar methods on lower-ranked kin.” Anxing reminded Luo Shuangyue.
Luo Shuangyue glanced back at Xiaozi. Why did this Monster Organization sound so proper and above board?
Could Demons really run such an organization?
Something’s off!
You’re definitely not Demons, are you!
“Where is our organization located?”
“I don’t know.”
“Huh?” What do you mean you don’t know? How can you not know, yet still carry me through the sky?
Luo Shuangyue suspected there was something wrong with her ears.
“Our senior forged a powerful Weapon to break through the Sanctuary, and now the organization is focused on that Weapon, so I don’t know where the organization currently is.”
Fortunately, Anxing quickly offered an explanation.
Her current mission was to recruit new members—however many she could find.
As for when she’d return to the organization, she didn’t really care.
After all, she was already a member. There was no need to rush back.
She wouldn’t starve outside, so why worry about it?
When the real battle with the Sanctuary came, the senior would surely send out a summons to gather everyone and tell them where to assemble.
At present, the Demons were like a loose alliance of nomadic tribes.
Each powerful Demon Emperor was a tribe of her own, doing her own thing most of the time, and only gathering together to launch an assault when the leader gave the order.
Anxing’s job was to recruit. She would head to the places where Black Calamity broke out and take the newborn Demons under her command.
“Were we the first batch you encountered?” Luo Shuangyue felt her luck was pretty good—the mission had just begun, and she’d walked right into it.
This Demon Emperor probably allowed Anxing to finish her recruitment quota in one go.
“Yes. There aren’t many of our kind who can communicate. Most of our kin can’t be communicated with—they are the majority.”
“I see…” Luo Shuangyue let out a sigh of relief.
She had thought all Demons in this world were like Anxing and Xiaozi. If that were true, she’d have to seriously doubt where these Demons came from.
Could they all really be the reincarnations of the dead?
“So, are there many of our kind, like us?”
“Like us?”
“Yeah, small like us, two eyes, one nose…”
“Not many, but I don’t know exactly how many of us there are among the weakest of our kind. The world is just too big. We can’t possibly gather every one of our kin under our banner.”
The vastness of the world brought both advantages and disadvantages for Demons.
The benefit was enough space and time to develop; the drawback was that when Demons wanted to unite, finding each other became difficult.
As for low-level Demons, managing them effectively was impossible.
Could Demons possibly set up a Demon Organization department to oversee every Demon in the world?
However, the organization Anxing belonged to had indeed united the vast majority of Demon Emperors.
Their current goal was aligned, so they could work together with some semblance of order.
Hmm, Demons had learned to cooperate. This news was a real shock to Luo Shuangyue.
If the Demons in the human world had known about win-win cooperation, humanity might have perished long ago.
Back when the Magical Girls had not yet developed, there were already a considerable number of Demon Emperors and Demon Kings among the Demons.
If they had banded together and launched an offensive back then, humanity would have been unable to hold out.
But those Demon Emperors didn’t do so—their territorial instincts were too strong.
They would never allow other Demon Emperors near their lands.
Magical Girls and humans had survived in the cracks between these Demon conflicts and, one by one, sent those creatures back to hell.
Compared to the Human Homeworld, this world was much larger, and its natives were much stronger.
Back then, humans were staunch scientific supremacists.
Encountering Demons, who cared nothing for science, left them caught off guard—much like the Elves who came later.
The natives of this world, however, were much more martial.
Although they now held the line, the fact that so many Demon Emperors united still failed to break the Sanctuary’s defense was enough to show the power of this world’s natives.
“So, are we just flying aimlessly through the sky like this?”
“No, I can sense the distant aura of Black Calamity. You should be able to as well.” Anxing explained that she wasn’t flying aimlessly; she was moving with purpose.
Demon Emperors had strong perception, and the aura of Black Calamity was especially distinctive.
She could easily detect traces of it in the air.
In such a huge world, there were countless outbreaks of Black Calamity every day—though the majority were just soldier- and general-level events.
But even among the low-level Demons, there might be some with whom communication and cooperation was possible.
So the places worth checking still needed to be checked.
“I should be able to… Oh, right, can we trigger Black Calamity ourselves to create the subordinates we want?”
“Can we?”
“Can’t we?” Luo Shuangyue’s eyes widened. Wasn’t this a Demon Emperor’s innate ability?
That Demon Emperor with the giant eye, and those Demon Emperors the humans encountered in the past, all could produce subordinates completely loyal to themselves.
Their armies had distinct traits—just one look would tell you which Demon Emperor they served.
That’s why, when a Demon Emperor appeared among humans, they’d always be swarmed and beaten to death; only then did such cases decrease.
But without a doubt, Demon Emperors should have this ability.
“I’m not sure. But if we could, our senior wouldn’t send us to look for newly born kin.”
Anxing shook her head; she didn’t know much about the matters Luo Shuangyue spoke of.
