The duties of Lias’s maid were performed admirably; Leon’s daily meals and laundry were always handled by the little succubus.
To make her appear more like a proper maid, Seretus even arranged for an experienced maid to teach Lias proper etiquette.
However, Leon sometimes wondered if the maids at the duke’s estate were truly proper.
“Leon, Miss Caroline says a maid should also warm her master’s bed. Let’s sleep together under one quilt every night from now on.”
“Leon, Miss Caroline said that the thing you poked my stomach with that day is a bad thing all men have. Can I take a look at it?”
“Leon, Miss Caroline told me to be careful or you’ll eat me. What does that mean? Can humans eat other humans?”
The girl’s bizarre questions only grew more frequent, making Leon’s lips twitch.
Aren’t succubi supposed to be experts in those matters?
Why doesn’t this one understand a thing?
He had no idea how to explain things to Lias, so he could only pretend he knew nothing.
Otherwise, he truly feared Lias might awaken her true succubus nature.
As Lias gradually mastered etiquette and her maidly duties, she began to accompany Leon on outings more and more.
Even the elders at the Potion Association knew: the Thirteenth Elder had a very beautiful personal maid, though she was a bit aloof and rarely showed emotion.
During this time, Duke Seretus also organized several gatherings, hoping to introduce his daughter to Leon.
After a few such occasions, Leon grew tired of it and simply brought Lias with him to the gatherings.
In the end, the old man said it was normal for accomplished men to have several women, so long as his daughter remained the official wife.
With a blank face, Leon repeated the duke’s words directly to Lady Seretus.
After that, he never received another invitation; it seemed the duke had given up.
However, Leon and the duke’s daughter actually got along well over these days.
She seemed to be quite fond of Lias, often visiting his residence just to chat with her.
The little succubus often grumbled about this at night, but seeing as the two got along, Leon didn’t interfere—he thought it was good for Lias to make a friend.
Another year passed, and the two welcomed their first winter in the royal capital.
Countless snowflakes drifted slowly from the sky, laying a thin white mantle over the city.
“Leon, it’s not cold here at all in winter.”
The girl in a black dress reached her pale, slender hand toward the sky.
A snowflake landed on her palm and slowly melted, her eyes filled with wonder.
In Everfrost City, as soon as winter arrived, the streets would be deserted.
But here, despite it being winter, the streets remained lively as ever, with children playing in the snow.
These were sights Lias had never seen before.
“Leon, why do they like snow so much? What’s so fun about it?”
Lias crouched on the threshold, looking out with a puzzled expression.
Snow was far too common—and even a bit frightening—to those who lived in Everfrost City, for every blizzard left many to starve in the endless nights.
Leon sat beside her, booklet in hand, and gently said, “Because people here only get to see snow once a year, so they’re excited. Besides, to them, snow is just something to play with.”
Lias still didn’t quite understand.
Pointing at the children playing in the street, she asked, “Is it really that much fun?”
“Maybe it’s because they have friends with them.”
Leon scooped up some snow at his feet and carefully shaped a snowman, setting it in front of Lias.
“Friends… I know what that is. We’re friends too! The duchess said I’m your girlfriend!”
“Ahem, wel… well, close enough.”
Leon choked for a moment, then quickly changed the topic: “Why don’t you try making a snowman too?”
Lias tilted her head, still a bit confused, but soon began to gather snow and, following Leon’s example, built a large snowman.
The little succubus put her hands on her hips proudly.
“See, my snowman is bigger than yours!”
Looking at her smug expression, a mischievous idea popped into Leon’s head.
Seizing a moment when she wasn’t looking, he kicked the snowman’s head clean off, then grinned wickedly.
“Now mine’s bigger.”
“You!”
Lias’s eyes widened.
She hadn’t expected Leon to be so shameless.
She bent down, picked up Leon’s snowman, and angrily hurled it at him.
“Stupid Leon!”
“Ow!”
The boy yelped, clutching his head with the booklet and fleeing across the courtyard, all the while scooping up snow to throw back.
The girl failed to dodge and took a snowball full in the face, looking utterly disheveled.
Furious, she grabbed snow from a nearby branch and chased after Leon, her long crimson hair fluttering in the wind, snowflakes tumbling from it.
Back and forth, they chased and pelted each other until both were covered in snow and their clothes were soaked.
Finally, they leaned together, panting, laughing at each other’s bedraggled appearances.
“Hahaha, Leon, you look so ugly right now!”
“Hahaha, says you… Look at yourself—you’re not much better.”
Lying in the snow, they watched as snowflakes continued to drift down from the sky.
Suddenly, Lias spoke.
“It really… is pretty fun, I guess.”
Leon smiled at her words.
These days, Lias seemed more and more human.
“It was about this time, wasn’t it, that I found you in the snow back then.”
Leon gently touched his Right Eye, a wave of nostalgia flashing through his eyes.
“So… why did you save me back then?”
Lias also recalled those days, asking the same question once more, though her feelings were different this time.
Leon smiled and replied, “Didn’t I already tell you? I saved you because I wanted to. There doesn’t always have to be a reason. It’s not like I was planning to trick you into being my wife or something.”
“Why can’t it be that?”
Lias sat up, leaning over Leon and gazing into his face.
Leon was left speechless.
Looking into his face, Lias said, “I feel like I’m on the verge of breaking through again.”
This time, Leon was stunned.
However, he had indeed developed a new potion recently and let Lias drink a bottle.
He just didn’t expect it to take effect so soon.
“So you’re going to sleep again?”
“Yeah.”
Lias nodded, her red lips pursed.
Then she gave a charming, brilliant smile.
“So when I wake up, answer me then.”
“After all, I have a feeling that when I wake up this time, I’ll be stronger than you. Then you’ll have to teach me what a Kiss is.”
A sly smile flashed in the fox-like eyes of the red-haired girl.
In truth, she already knew the real meaning of a Kiss, as well as the fact that Leon’s earlier answer was just dodging.
Leon looked a little embarrassed, glancing away.
The little succubus seemed content just teasing her master and let the matter drop, which only made Leon more uncomfortable.
He stood up, gazing softly at the little cat-like succubus.
“Go without worry. I’ll be waiting for you to come back.”
