But Qiqi didn’t say anything and simply led Samimi along.
The two of them arrived in front of a national gate, and Qiqi had to take out a steel key to unlock the Steel Door before they could go in.
This place was hidden deep within the Sheep Cleric Symposium, originally a meditation area reserved for men of the nation.
Within the national walls stood a national tower, even more mysterious than all other mysteries.
“A base of the Valkyrie Order?” Samimi glanced around vigilantly, spotting the figures of Female Valkyrie Knights in the alley.
Qiqi still didn’t answer, just brought her to a mysterious Unmarked Chapel.
The main door of this Unmarked Chapel was made of steel, with several locks attached; just a glance made it clear how secretive it was.
Samimi took out the Map to have a look and found that this chapel was not marked on it at all; it was just shown as a patch of garden, hidden away.
It was right next to the quarters of the Valkyrie Order, and unless you were a Female Valkyrie Knight, no one was allowed near this area.
If Samimi hadn’t been following Qiqi, she would have been caught by the Valkyries just after crossing the intersection, making her an illegal trespasser.
“Are your Valkyrie Order nothing but lapdogs for the Kunyan Society?” Samimi speculated.
“We can’t be called lapdogs, only tools. They don’t know about the Saint Sound Society at all, just mindlessly follow the orders from above. It just happens that their orders are to protect the Saint Sound Society’s traces, that’s all,” Qiqi explained.
She produced a string of Secret Keys, unlocking each one by one, and the two of them slipped quietly into the small chapel.
Inside the chapel was a dusty goddess statue and a peculiar structure like a small pavilion, its outer shell made entirely of iron. To get inside, you still had to unlock and open the doors.
“Honestly—” Qiqi grumbled as she unlocked yet another door, “it feels like all we’ve done so far is open doors.”
Samimi stepped closer and instantly saw what the pavilion really was—it was full of hidden mechanisms, and she couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose at the musty smell.
In the center of the pavilion’s circular floor was a menacing stone-slab contraption. She was certain that if she stepped on it, the floor would drop down—it was actually a [Festival Lift].
Of course, in this world, there was no way it was powered by electricity. Instead, it was driven by magic—hence, a Festival Lift.
She’d seen these kinds of lifts plenty of times in games, just like meeting an old friend.
“Are you ready?” Qiqi stepped onto the circular stone slab inside the pavilion and invited Samimi.
“Ready for what?” Samimi, utterly carefree, hopped on and kicked the small stone slab in the center.
The floor immediately leveled out, feeling pleasantly smooth.
“Rumble rumble!” The sound of the mechanism echoed, and thick beams of magical light illuminated the surroundings.
Just as Samimi had thought, the round floor of the pavilion began to slowly descend, taking the two of them down into the secret depths of the church.
“Kunyan Society really knows how to hide. It’s actually underground?” Samimi asked.
Next to her, Qiqi suddenly handed Samimi a Legendary Skill Book.
“What’s this, a sudden gift?” Samimi laughed.
“Hurry up and learn it—you’ll need it soon,” Qiqi said.
“Huh? Right now?” Samimi was puzzled, but she listened anyway.
Soon enough, she understood why…
As the Festival Lift descended, a strong stench began to fill the air. Samimi almost vomited up her last meal.
She opened the skill book and read: [Air Purification Technique].
“Ugh…” Samimi almost burst into tears.
She saw Qiqi quietly perform the incantation, a thin layer of magical energy covering her body to shield her from the air. It was light and thin, with basically zero defensive power.
But Qiqi was already unaffected by the stench, standing there calmly.
At that moment, Samimi really wanted to grab Qiqi and smack her on the ground—this was just too frustrating, and honestly, totally unreliable.
Samimi had no choice but to quickly study the skill book on the spot and master the technique then and there.
It wasn’t a particularly advanced spell—just a simple incantation, similar in principle to a Magic Shield.
It took Samimi only a minute to grasp it, and she immediately activated the Air Purification Shield. Though she could still faintly sense the pungent air, at least the stench was gone.
“Couldn’t you have given this to me earlier?” Samimi grumbled.
“Sorry, I forgot.” Qiqi replied without a hint of apology.
“Can I punch you?” Samimi clenched her fists.
“You can hit me, I won’t fight back. But I will dodge,” Qiqi said.
“Then forget it.” Samimi gave up.
The Jingling Tribe were naturally agile, a race blessed with superior speed. With such quick reflexes, it was almost impossible to land a hit on them.
“You didn’t give me the skill book earlier, but could you at least tell me what’s down here? What exactly is this place?” Samimi pressed.
“This is the [Church Sewers]. It’s where the Royal City’s wastewater flows—and it’s also our Kunyan Society’s Secret Base. Thanks to the Magic Shield of us mages, we can block out the stench. Ordinary people would never dare come down here,” Qiqi explained.
“Sewers…” Hearing the word “sewers,” Samimi instantly recalled unpleasant memories from before.
“The Church has an extremely complex Sewer System, but our real purpose here isn’t drainage—it’s to carry out secret activities we can’t let anyone know about,” Qiqi continued, her tone even more mysterious.
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to. I don’t care about your secrets. I just want to witness the Royal Funeral,” Samimi said.
As they chatted, the Festival Lift finally reached the bottom, and the two of them walked down a short passageway, arriving at a construction platform.
Before them was an enormous underground space, utterly astonishing. It defied the logic of architecture, with every part brimming with impossibility, as if it had been pieced together like random building blocks.
At this point, it was clear that construction in this world was the work of extraordinary beings. Even in the modern world, there’d be no way to build such a physically impossible Sewer System.
There were huge intersecting pipelines, floating walkways with no visible supports, meaningless construction platforms, and iron mesh tunnels everywhere, forming a sinister underground labyrinth.
Samimi felt that if she took just two steps inside, she would be hopelessly lost.
Without a Map, there’d be no way out once you entered. Even with a Map, she had no idea how anyone could chart out such a convoluted maze.
She had to admit, this really was the perfect location for a Secret Base—this place was no longer meant for ordinary people.
But there was no doubt that this was a spectacle-level structure in another world—likely destined to become a famous landmark.
“This place is surprisingly refined,” Samimi marveled.
“That’s because the Church Sewers are the place that seals the [Immortal King]. If you know who the Immortal King is, I won’t bother explaining,” Qiqi said coolly, not introducing it any further.
