Want to play Puzzle?
Staring at the pile of Teleportation Gate fragments that Phantom Thorn had gathered, Luo Shuangyue’s expression grew complicated.
This wasn’t a proper puzzle at all! If it was, then this would probably be the most difficult puzzle game in the world!
“Do you want me to shrink them a bit? That way, it should be easier for you to piece them together.” Phantom Thorn asked as she stacked the collected fragments into a towering heap.
“No need for now, I’d rather have them bigger so I can see more clearly. Also, Phantom Thorn, help me out, will you!”
Luo Shuangyue was just short of kneeling and grabbing Phantom Thorn’s hands, crying out “Watashi”.
There was no way she could finish this by herself.
Ask Phantom Scythe? Did that little one look clever to you?
So the only one Luo Shuangyue could rely on was Phantom Thorn.
“Sigh, always causing me trouble.” Faced with Luo Shuangyue’s plea, Phantom Thorn let out a helpless sigh. She never really had the ability to refuse Luo Shuangyue’s requests.
As long as Luo Shuangyue asked, no matter how reluctant she was inside, she had to agree.
In the very beginning, she could still think of herself as a mere monster, throw little tantrums, and ignore Luo Shuangyue’s questions.
But as time went by, she gradually realized her true identity.
She wasn’t that monster anymore.
She was a new consciousness born in Luo Shuangyue’s mental domain, one that had inherited that monster’s memories.
Her existence was simply because Luo Shuangyue, at the time, couldn’t absorb the memories of a Royal-Class Magic Beast all at once—there was an odd similarity to these Teleportation Gate fragments falling from the sky.
Both Phantom Thorn and these fragments were products of Luo Shuangyue’s self-protection mechanism, only Phantom Thorn appeared more human-like.
But essentially, Phantom Thorn wasn’t a real life form. She was more like a Q&A machine, designed to answer—
—answer questions about that pitiful Royal-Class Magic Beast.
After coming to terms with this reality, Phantom Thorn’s attitude towards Luo Shuangyue shifted a little.
She rarely showed Luo Shuangyue a good face, but when Luo Shuangyue made a request, she would never disobey.
That scowl was always there, but she still did the work. Mouth says no, body says yes—perhaps that’s what this meant.
“Come over and give me a hand. Let’s sort all these things first and see if there are any missing pieces.”
“Her body is healthy, and her mind is active. Apart from her Mental Power being almost exhausted, there’s nothing wrong. Let her rest a while and she’ll be fine.”
Moving her hand away from Luo Shuangyue’s forehead, the Soul Summoner Princess shot a questioning look at Singularity beside her.
“You’re a senior, aren’t you? How could you just stand by and watch as Dark Moth worked herself into a faint?”
Singularity, under that accusing gaze, immediately put on an innocent face. How could she have known Luo Shuangyue would pass out while eating?
Before Luo Shuangyue fainted, everything about her seemed fine—no signs of overuse at all.
Her Mental Power was so abundant, it seemed endless.
Yet, as soon as she took the last bite, Luo Shuangyue’s eyes closed, her head slumped, and it was as if all her Mental Power was suddenly sucked dry.
The speed at which her Mental Power plummeted couldn’t even be called fast.
In Singularity’s view, Luo Shuangyue’s Mental Power instantly dropped from about ninety percent to nearly zero.
It was gone in a flash!
If her Mental Power had declined gradually, Singularity would have definitely stopped Luo Shuangyue for a break before she burned out.
But Luo Shuangyue never gave her that chance.
“I’m telling you, her Mental Power just fell like this! How was I supposed to react?” Singularity gestured in earnest, trying to defend herself.
This really wasn’t her fault!
She might be unreliable sometimes, but on the whole she was dependable.
There’s no way she’d just stand by and watch a junior push herself to the point of collapse.
Standing aside, the patient’s family didn’t care at all about the squabble between two Full Bloom-Class Magical Girls—their attention was completely on Luo Shuangyue.
Upon hearing the Soul Summoner Princess say that Luo Shuangyue would wake soon and wouldn’t have any lasting side effects, Xia Mo finally let out a sigh of relief.
Her heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled down.
Meanwhile, Luo Shuangxing stared at the thick stack of Sealing Cards beside the bed, piled as high as a small mountain, lost in thought.
She knew perfectly well where those cards had come from. Such a thick pile of cards was all the result of her big sister’s efforts today. It would be stranger if her sister didn’t faint.
That many Sealing Cards—Luo Shuangxing herself would need ten days, maybe half a month, to accumulate that amount.
But Luo Shuangyue had used up all that effort in a single day.
Even if Luo Shuangyue’s Mental Power was much higher than a regular Magical Girl’s, she couldn’t possibly withstand such terrifying consumption.
“She’s so careless, isn’t she?” Walking to the bedside of the slumbering Luo Shuangyue and looking at her sister’s relaxed face, Luo Shuangxing muttered quietly.
In some ways, her big sister really was someone to worry about.
Don’t be fooled by how mature and reliable Luo Shuangyue usually appeared—sometimes, she’d still reveal her less mature side, like right now.
“She was still chatting and laughing with me right before she passed out, acting like nothing was wrong!” On the other side, Singularity was still trying to pass the blame.
“She used so much magic! Didn’t you consider the possibility her Mental Power might not be enough?” The Soul Summoner Princess continued to interrogate Singularity.
“She’s a genius! Every Magical Girl’s total Mental Power is different. How would I know if this level of expenditure was a lot for her or not?”
The differences between Magical Girls were huge—even among Initial Bloom-Class Magical Girls, there could be dozens or even hundreds of times’ difference in Mental Power.
And Luo Shuangyue was universally acknowledged as a prodigy, so Singularity felt it was perfectly normal for Luo Shuangyue to cast that many spells at once.
Faced with Singularity’s explanation, the Soul Summoner Princess was annoyed but realized she didn’t have much reason to press Singularity for responsibility.
This time, Singularity really didn’t have much blame to bear.
You could say she wasn’t paying attention to Luo Shuangyue, but honestly, there was nothing to worry about before she passed out.
Who could have expected that a little genius happily shoveling rice in one second would slump over unconscious the next?
When Singularity had rushed Luo Shuangyue back to the Lunar Base, the anxiety and panic on her face had been all too real.
This Full Bloom-Class Magical Girl had truly been worried that something might have gone wrong.
Before confirming Luo Shuangyue was okay, she’d been nothing but anxious.
Only when the Soul Summoner Princess said there was nothing wrong did she start bickering again.
Maybe…this was her way of comforting herself?
The Emperor of Eyeballs was now rather troubled.
