Distress—this emotion had only appeared a handful of times in its not-so-long yet not-so-short lifetime.
But it vaguely remembered, before it arrived in this world, it seemed to be plagued by distress every day somewhere.
What was it distressed about? It seemed… it was distressed about how to avoid those white things?
Shaking off the jumble of thoughts from its mind, the Demon Emperor looked into the distance at the several giant Teleportation Gates that had already been erected, and once again felt the churn of distress flowing within its body.
The advance plan had encountered a small setback; two Stargates had already been destroyed. This time, its enemies might possess considerable strength.
At the very least, they were stronger than the Elves.
When facing its own Monster Army, the Elven Legion had never been able to mount any real resistance—let alone destroy its Stargates.
However, that didn’t really mean much.
Even though two Stargates had already been destroyed, the Demon Emperor still felt that the advantage in this war remained firmly in its grasp.
Under its command was an endless Monster Army.
After occupying the Elven Star Domain, it treated these territories as breeding grounds for cultivating its own forces, hatching countless Demons to serve its needs.
This manipulation truly gave the Demon Emperor’s army the look of a grand force, but it also brought a minor issue.
Within this star domain, only one Demon Emperor had been born—namely, itself.
Perhaps in these past few years, there had been chances for other Demon Emperors to emerge within this star domain, but under the iron rule of the Emperor of Eyeballs, the odds of another Demon Emperor’s birth were virtually zero.
Even if another did appear, it would be mercilessly slain by the current Demon Emperor during its earliest gestation.
This starry sky needed no second master.
It was confident—confident that its army could sweep away all formidable enemies in the cosmos.
There were far fewer Civilizations in this starry sea than anyone imagined.
Though the Elves had stepped into the sea of stars for tens of millions of years, they had yet to discover any paradise where life truly existed.
This made the Demon Emperor who destroyed the Elves feel that the Elves should have been the strongest opponents in this star domain.
Even if there were other enemies nearby, their strength would definitely be far inferior to the Elves.
It didn’t even need to act personally—just sending one of its main legions would be enough to sweep through whatever small Civilization it discovered.
The vanguard sent to that stretch of the starry sky had already reported back: it was merely an infant-stage Civilization that hadn’t even stepped off its Mother Star.
In the eyes of the Demon King of Elves’ Ruin, it was no more than a bug that could be crushed with a single hand.
If the Teleportation Gate hadn’t yet been successfully constructed, it would have already ordered a full-scale assault, unleashing an unstoppable, irresistible terror to bring utter darkness and despairing destruction to that little planet.
“The time left for you is running out. I’ll be coming for you very soon!”
Luo Shuangyue slowly opened her eyes.
The aftereffects of mental exhaustion, plus the spiritual damage from who-knows-how-long she’d spent piecing together puzzles, made it so that nearly half a minute passed after opening her eyes before she realized she was awake.
Blinking, the blurry outline of a purple figure gradually sharpened.
“Xia Mo?”
And then, she felt herself pulled into a warm, soft embrace that carried a faint floral fragrance.
“You’ve been unconscious for two days!” Xia Mo, hugging Luo Shuangyue, spoke in a voice that trembled slightly.
Two days already? Luo Shuangyue’s gaze was still a bit vacant, as she was slowly recovering her wits.
Finally, after a full five minutes awake, after being half-forced by Xia Mo to drink a pouch of nutrient solution, Luo Shuangyue finally got most of her brain back online.
She recalled her dismal experience of assembling blocks day and night in the mental space, and remembered the black vine that would swing at her backside whenever she tried to rest.
It was practically hell!
“Haha, two days?” She chuckled awkwardly.
She hadn’t expected that one meal could knock her out for two whole days.
“So, don’t you think you owe me an explanation? What exactly happened!” After venting the anxiety she’d bottled up over the past two days, Xia Mo finally began her interrogation.
She let go of Luo Shuangyue, her eyes burning with an intensity like a blazing sun that could banish all evil spirits, fixing her gaze on Luo Shuangyue as if the moment Luo Shuangyue lied, she would be instantly vaporized into dust.
Being stared at like that by Xia Mo, Luo Shuangyue immediately shrank her neck, meekly admitting she didn’t really know why she suddenly fainted.
“Although I did cast a lot of magic back then, I still felt mentally full up until the second before I passed out.” Luo Shuangyue summoned her courage and started to explain what she’d experienced.
She described everything from eating food in the heavens, all the way to playing puzzle games in her head. After her words, full of genuine intent, Xia Mo finally seemed satisfied with her explanation for now.
“Using that much magic in such a short time—if you didn’t exhaust your mental strength, who would?” Xia Mo tapped Luo Shuangyue’s forehead twice, speaking helplessly.
“I thought I was just exceptionally talented. If I’d known I was about to run out of mental strength, I definitely wouldn’t have done it.”
Luo Shuangyue hurried to defend herself. It was really just inexperience—she’d always run out of magic power before her mental strength was ever depleted, so she never knew where her limits were.
This time was her first real encounter with that limit.
With this experience, she figured she wouldn’t make the same mistake again… or so she hoped?
Alright, Luo Shuangyue thought that if she encountered the same situation, she’d probably step into the same pit again.
After all, if there’s no warning before mental exhaustion, how could she possibly foresee or avoid it? This kind of trap—she’d probably fall for it as many times as it appeared.
“Let’s hope so. So, how do you feel now? Should I call Soul Summoner Princess to come check on you?”
“No, no, I’m just a little dizzy. Another day of rest should be enough.” Luo Shuangyue shook her head, then looked at Xia Mo seriously and said, “By the way, I cracked the method the Demons use to build their Teleportation Gates!”
Her life as a slave in the mental space hadn’t been fruitless.
Together with Phantom Thorn… well, mostly thanks to Phantom Thorn, she managed to crack the Demons’ method for building Teleportation Gates!
Phantom Thorn, this peculiar being who possessed all the Demon Emperor’s memories, had easily grasped the construction method for these Teleportation Gates, and, together with the Starlight Magic that Luo Shuangyue had stolen, they performed a magical modification on the Gate.
They had successfully transformed this evil-looking Teleportation Gate into one with a true Magical Girl flair.
