In these past few days, Suzuki Yu always seemed half-asleep in the Classroom.
There was no other reason for this; it was simply because Shiina Chisa had said something so terrifying to him.
What did she mean by “let me feed you for a lifetime”?
Suzuki Yu shook his head, completely unable to understand what went on in this young lady’s mind.
With her background and status, she shouldn’t be lacking excellent suitors, so why would she be interested in him?
All Suzuki Yu wanted was a peaceful life.
Fortunately, apart from his system, he also possessed a unique talent.
That was the ability to fall asleep in the Classroom at will, especially during the teacher’s lectures.
Hmm, it was definitely not because the classes were too boring.
Once the idea struck him, he put it into action. So Suzuki Yu quickly collapsed onto his desk and fell asleep.
As a result, during the break, he was naturally summoned to the Office.
Looking at the Homeroom Teacher in front of him, who was already over thirty but still tried hard to keep up her appearance with makeup for various matchmaking occasions, Suzuki Yu fought back a smile and apologized sincerely:
“Sorry, Miss Kobayashi, I promise I’ll never sleep in your class again!”
His straightforward words stunned Kobayashi Keiko for a moment just as she was about to speak, but she quickly regained her composure. She gently tapped her fingers on the wooden edge of the desk, her voice holding little reproach, instead tinged with gentle helplessness:
“Suzuki, you said the same thing to Yan Chu last time, and today you slept in my class. Other teachers have also given similar feedback. This seems to be the third time now.”
As a Specially Recommended Student, Suzuki Yu still received some special attention.
Just as he was racking his brain for a new excuse, the teacher interrupted his thoughts again:
“Be honest, have you been having some troubles in your love life recently?”
“Huh?”
Suzuki Yu froze; he hadn’t expected that kind of question.
Before he could answer, she continued:
“I’ve noticed before that you’ve been quite close with Shiina Chisa.” Kobayashi Keiko set down her Red Pen, leaned forward slightly, her tone even gentler as if afraid to touch a sore spot, and her gaze carried a bit of sympathy.
“It was about three months ago, wasn’t it? I even saw you sitting in the Shiina Family car, feeding her and chatting happily.”
“Is that so?”
Suzuki Yu replied awkwardly. If he remembered correctly, that was the day after Shiina Chisa had her Wisdom Tooth Surgery.
That day, the maid who was supposed to look after her had to take emergency leave for family matters.
So he was dragged in to act as a temporary Caregiver, feeding her porridge, bringing water, changing ice packs—he’d been kept busy for a whole week.
Thinking back, that was probably one of the rare times Shiina Chisa had shown a vulnerable side. Her usual cold and aloof heiress image had completely collapsed, and she was just like any ordinary girl.
Suzuki Yu still remembered her teary eyes as she quietly whispered “thank you.” She’d actually been quite cute.
As he was lost in thought, Kobayashi Keiko continued:
“But these past few days, I’ve noticed something’s wrong between you two. It seems you aren’t speaking at all. Did something happen?”
“Uh…”
Everything Suzuki Yu wanted to say got stuck in his throat. He didn’t know how to answer.
He really had been avoiding Shiina Chisa recently, but he couldn’t exactly tell the teacher how overwhelmingly “enthusiastic” that young lady had been…
“Teachers were young once too, you know. I understand how hard it is to pursue someone Excellent, especially when there’s a big gap. That’s why, in many situations, we have to learn to make peace with ourselves.”
At this point, Kobayashi Keiko started lecturing on the greater truths of life.
Suzuki Yu’s mouth twitched. He truly didn’t know where to even start complaining.
What did she mean by pursuing someone Excellent? And what did she mean by making peace with himself?
Right now, he just wished Shiina Chisa would treat him like a can lying on the roadside and kick him far, far away.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t even manage to dodge her.
After some thought, Suzuki Yu decided to steer the topic elsewhere:
“Sensei, is this why you’re still single?”
Clearly, his attempt to shift the subject worked.
Kobayashi Keiko’s Red Pen hit the lesson plan with a “clack,” her earlobes turning red at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Around them, muffled laughter began to bubble up.
Kobayashi Keiko then hurriedly started explaining herself, mentioning how busy she was with work, and that she just hadn’t met the right person yet, but the embarrassment was written all over her carefully made-up face.
The other teachers in the Office were all trying not to laugh, some pretending to grade papers, some turning to look out the window, their shoulders shaking.
“Ahem!” Kobayashi Keiko cleared her throat, trying to reclaim her authority as a teacher, “Suzuki, we’re discussing your issues right now, don’t change the subject!”
“Yes, Sensei.” Suzuki Yu nodded obediently.
“In any case, if your emotional troubles are affecting your studies, I can help you apply for Psychological Counseling.” Kobayashi Keiko regained her professional demeanor, though her tone was still caring, “You became a Specially Recommended Student because you are truly Excellent. Don’t let anything else affect your future.”
“Don’t worry, Sensei, I understand. In fact, I don’t have any emotional issues at all. I’m extremely healthy, both physically and mentally.”
Suzuki Yu explained, afraid she’d bring up his love life again.
“But I noticed you joined the Student Council without leaving your original Club. Are you sure you’re not using busyness to distract yourself from a wounded heart?”
How can you make up so many stories…
Suzuki Yu was speechless at his teacher’s imagination. He sighed and said:
“I’ve just had a string of unexpected things happen lately. I’ll get back on track soon.”
“Unexpected things? Can you tell me about them?”
Clearly, Kobayashi Keiko’s eyes now held even more curiosity, wanting to get to the bottom of it.
“Uh…”
Suzuki Yu started racking his brains for a convincing lie.
Just as he was scratching his head in desperation, silently praying, “Someone save me, anyone,” the Office door suddenly swung open and a familiar voice caught his attention:
“Sensei, about the Field Trip, could I trouble you to sign these documents?”
Jingu Tenon walked into the Office holding a stack of files, a bright smile on her face like a lively girl.
Her eyes swept around the room, and when she spotted Suzuki Yu standing at Kobayashi Keiko’s desk, she looked as though she’d found something amusing. She walked over and took his arm:
“Suzuki?” Jingu Tenon feigned curiosity as she leaned in, glancing at Kobayashi Keiko, her tone as casual as chatting about the weather, “Sensei, the Student Council needs Suzuki’s help with something. May I borrow him for a bit?”
