Chapter 8: Transforming at School

Homeroom teacher Ma organized the test papers on her desk and pointed to the stool beside her.

“Sit down. The teacher just wants to chat with you. I guess your mom already talked to you about it.”

Jiang Cheng hid his hands behind his back and nodded.

“Your mom said you might be dating a girl in the class… but Teacher Ma hasn’t noticed anything like that.”

She smiled at the corners of her mouth, yet Jiang Cheng only felt a chill down his back.

“The teacher also doesn’t think you’re particularly close with anyone, so I still believe you’re not in early romance.”

Jiang Cheng lowered his head and remained silent.

“But the teacher still wants to hear it from you. Do you have a crush on any female classmate?”

Teacher Ma’s tone shifted, her gaze turning sharp.

Although the classmates usually liked to joke with her, they all became exceptionally obedient whenever she got serious.

“Teacher, I don’t have a girl I like.”

Jiang Cheng said this very frankly. 

He could probably guess how Mom had communicated with the homeroom teacher.

If it was just asking whether he interacted more with any girls in class, that could indeed be covered up.

“Hmm… The teacher thinks so too, so I told your mom she might be overthinking it.”

Teacher Ma turned around, pulled a red pen from the pen holder, and looked ready to grade papers.

“Alright, I just wanted to understand the situation from you. Since you’re here, help the teacher grade some papers. Just the multiple-choice questions.”

She handed over a sample paper. 

Jiang Cheng took it, drew another pen from the holder, and started grading.

The bell for the end of morning self-study rang, and the papers were just finished.

“Teacher, I’ll head back to the classroom then.”

Jiang Cheng handed the papers to Teacher Ma. 

She took them and watched him leave the office.

Although Jiang Cheng’s answers earlier had been calm, there was a moment of panic that couldn’t be hidden.

Teacher Ma thought thoughtfully: Who could it be?

Jiang Cheng walked while lowering his head to check the wristband. 

He hadn’t had time to look at the task that was issued earlier.

He opened the interface, his eyes scanning the few short lines.

Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes. He switched the interface back to the countdown, then reopened the task page.

The new task issued showed no changes.

Transform into Jiang Chen.

And someone had to see.

He could read the words separately, but why couldn’t he understand them together?

Jiang Cheng returned to his seat with a gloomy expression. 

Wang Yu had been watching him since he entered the door.

Before the class bell rang, he leaned over to show concern.

“Jiang bro, did Sister Ma scold you?”

Jiang Cheng glanced at Wang Yu, unusually responding to the teasing.

“No.”

“Oh… Then why do you look so down? Wait! Jiang bro, you actually answered me!”

Wang Yu looked as if he had obtained some rare treasure, his face full of excitement.

Jiang Cheng pulled his chair forward in slight disdain, then listened to the chatter behind him.

“Yesterday when you were sick, I wanted to visit you, but I ran into your cousin… Hey, seriously, your cousin is really pretty! Can you introduce her to me?”

Jiang Cheng coldly cursed.

“Shut up.”

“Alright, alright, I’ll shut up. Hey, don’t worry, I don’t want to be your brother-in-law. It’s just that everyone appreciates beauty, right?”

“Wang Yu, what do you mean by ‘everyone appreciates beauty’?”

The English teacher came in from the back and happened to hear his words.

She was holding a large stack of workbooks, with Wang Yu’s on the very top.

Wang Yu really shut his mouth this time.

The English teacher walked to the podium, dropped the thick stack of workbooks on the desk, and her voice rose gradually with the class bell.

“Yesterday’s homework—your class did a complete mess! Among the two experimental classes I teach, why does your class always have endless small mistakes! Especially certain students who can even misspell ‘beautiful’.”

The English teacher’s gaze swept toward Wang Yu, scaring him into immediately lowering his head.

Then, the teacher had the class representative distribute the homework.

“This lesson, we’ll focus on the previous exercises. Jiang Cheng, translate Reading A for everyone.”

Jiang Cheng was staring at the wristband in a daze and didn’t notice the English teacher calling him.

“Jiang Cheng?”

“Jiang bro, the teacher asked you to translate Reading A.”

Only then did Jiang Cheng stand up, find the page with the reading, and begin translating.

“Very good.” 

The English teacher nodded. 

“Classmates, look at question three. Doesn’t the answer come out right after Jiang Cheng’s translation? I’ve told you many times—before doing the reading, look at all the questions first. Then when you read the passage, you might be able to select the answer directly…”

Jiang Cheng’s listening efficiency was low this entire class, but fortunately, the teacher didn’t call on him again afterward.

For the following math and history classes, he forced himself to stay focused and not let his mind wander.

Morning passed quickly. 

By the time he went to the cafeteria for lunch, Jiang Cheng still hadn’t figured out what to do.

Find a corner, transform, and then randomly select a lucky passerby?

Not to mention Jiang Chen’s eye-catching appearance— that pink hair alone would probably be hard to forget. 

The fewer people who saw this form, the better.

Jiang Cheng got a portion of food and found a corner seat. 

He was already thinking about wearing a hat tomorrow, but timing was still an issue.

“Jiang bro, what about afternoon PE class? Today it’s just our class, the whole court is ours.”

Wang Yu popped up from nowhere, carrying his tray and sitting across from him. 

He finished half of his heaping plate in just a few bites.

The boys in class would gather to play basketball during big breaks or activity classes. 

The PE teacher was relatively lenient, allowing free activity after completing basic exercises.

That’s right… PE class.

The equipment room was a distance from the playground, and few people went there usually. 

He could wait there now, transform, then walk out. 

Anyway, the task only required someone to see him.

If he ran fast enough, no one would get a chance to see his face.

It’s just that…

“Are you the one moving equipment this afternoon?”

“Nah, it’s not my turn today.” 

Wang Yu scratched his head, not understanding why Jiang Cheng was asking.

“Hm.” Jiang Cheng felt relieved.

To be safe, he went to the equipment room early, confirmed that his hiding spot wouldn’t be seen, and then ducked inside.

Estimating the time, he pressed to transform.

The school uniform on his body suddenly became loose. 

Although Jiang Chen wasn’t short, there was still a big gap compared to the male body.

She adjusted the uniform jacket and pulled the pants’ drawstring to the tightest.

Two male voices sounded at the door.

“Hey, you think Old Xu’s ankle sprain means he can’t play today?”

“What, you still gonna force him to play? Spare Old Xu.”

“It’s just that we haven’t settled the bet from last time. Man, Old Xu is really unlucky—tripped on the way here.”

“Alright, hurry up and carry the basketball hoops out. Oh, and don’t forget the badminton stuff.”

Jiang Cheng felt that one of the voices sounded somewhat familiar.

But there was no time to worry about that now. Completing the task was the most important.

“Sorry, excuse me, classmate.”

The two boys hadn’t expected someone inside and hurriedly stepped aside. 

A fragrant breeze passed by.

Wang Yu instinctively glanced at the person.

“You… y-y-you—”

That distinctive pink hair and unforgettable profile—Wang Yu stammered, unable to speak.

Oh no! Jiang Cheng hurriedly ran out of the equipment room, not stopping until she reached the inside of the sports building. 

She poked her head out to confirm no one had followed, then let out a breath of relief.

Why did it have to be Wang Yu coming to the equipment room… She sat weakly against the wall.
