President Wang did not let the driver go to the company, but returned to the hotel again.
The manager was already waiting outside, hurriedly greeting her as soon as he saw her car.
“President Wang, this is your wristband.”
The ordinary wristband was placed in a black box with a velvet base.
President Wang reached out from the car window, took the box, glanced at it, and then closed the lid.
“Go home.”
President Wang suddenly didn’t want to go to the company.
The driver turned the car around and headed towards the southern new city.
As a key development area in the city in recent years, the southern new city had supporting medical and educational complexes, as well as the city’s largest high-end shopping mall, specially serving nearby residents.
President Wang, as one of the earliest residents, had moved into the villa area developed by the group long ago.
Her family always complained about how inconvenient it was for her to live alone in such a desolate place, but President Wang enjoyed the freedom.
Quiet and hassle-free—that was the greatest convenience for a solitary urban woman like her.
The car drove into the gated villa community and stopped at the very back.
The driver got out to open the door for President Wang.
He noticed that President Wang was still holding the black box in her hand.
“No need to pick me up tonight. You can get off work.”
President Wang walked into the courtyard without looking back.
She scanned her fingerprint to enter.
Only a sliver of light from the entrance filtered into the house.
After turning on the entryway light, she took off her high heels.
Aside from the cleaning auntie who came at fixed times, no one else entered the villa.
Her three meals were mostly settled at Lihua Hotel, and the rest of her time was spent working overtime at the company or attending social events.
It could be said that this place was more like a temporary lodging.
President Wang called her life assistant. After a brief busy tone, a slightly young female voice answered.
“Hello, sis?”
“Nono, order a meal for me at noon and have it delivered to Fuyuan. Um… yes, and then book a restaurant for me tonight, for two people… um.”
President Wang hung up the phone, walked into the kitchen, and took a bottle of mineral water from the fridge.
The icy liquid flowed down her throat, making her let out a sigh.
President Wang leaned against the bar counter, quietly looking at the vase on top.
In the minimalist ceramic vase, there was only a single rose.
The flower she had just changed that morning looked especially vibrant and alluring.
But for some reason, President Wang felt a sudden irritation.
This vase didn’t seem quite right… too delicate and petite.
Perhaps I should set aside a section of the garden for a rose bed?
She sent a text to the villa housekeeper and soon received a reply.
After that, President Wang’s phone kept ringing nonstop.
Although she hadn’t gone to the company, there were still a pile of trivial matters seeking her attention.
The original meetings had been switched to online.
Once she got busy, she forgot to eat.
By the time she snapped out of it, it was almost dinnertime.
President Wang came out of the study.
The meal Nono had ordered was still untouched on the dining table.
She glanced at it but had no appetite.
President Wang prepared to return to the study to handle the remaining tasks.
Halfway there, she suddenly remembered her appointment with Jiang Chen.
She unlocked her phone and opened WeChat.
Their chat was still at this morning’s messages.
President Wang thought for a moment, typed “Are you there?” and sent it.
Jiang Chen’s reply came quickly, giving President Wang the feeling that she had been waiting.
“I’m here.”
Jiang Chen was sitting on the bed in her room at that moment.
Maintaining a posture with her knees hugged to her chest, she had been replaying the entire day’s events in her mind.
First, being sent home by President Wang, then unexpectedly running into Wang Yu who had come looking for her, and now she was about to have dinner with President Wang again.
Her life as Jiang Chen seemed completely severed from the original Jiang Cheng’s.
The monotonous two-point-one-line routine had become utterly unfamiliar.
President Wang sent over an address in the city’s CBD—a sky-high restaurant that only served members.
Getting there would mean crossing half the new city district.
Jiang Chen thought about it and decided to take a taxi.
But unexpectedly, she soon received a photo from President Wang.
“I’ve sent the driver to pick you up. The car is parked at the spot from earlier today.”
“Okay, thank you, sister.”
President Wang was sitting in another car.
When she saw the message from Jiang Chen, her gaze paused slightly.
This kid… really likes saying thank you.
“Sis, do I need to go up with you later?”
Life assistant Mo Nono was driving for President Wang for the first time.
Usually, she was chauffeured by a driver.
Her meals and lodging were almost always at Lihua Hotel and the company, and her clothes were specially delivered by brands each season.
Aside from helping book restaurants, she didn’t handle any of the other tasks a life assistant was supposed to do.
Today was a rare occasion where President Wang was dining alone with someone.
Mo Nono couldn’t help but feel there was something fishy about it.
“No need. Drive the car back to Fuyuan. The driver will send me later.”
President Wang glanced at Mo Nono in the driver’s seat.
The latter’s hairs stood on end.
It feels like my little thoughts have been seen through.
Qinyè Plaza was bathed in a sea of lights.
In the tallest building, many employees could be seen coming and going.
Their faces showed fatigue, and behind their hurried figures was a scene of prosperity.
President Wang took the elevator to the rooftop.
It was dinnertime, and she could see elegantly dressed men and women entering.
She had assumed Mo Nono had booked a private room, but after being led to her seat by the waiter, she realized it was a window spot.
She rubbed her forehead, somewhat regretting letting Mo Nono make the reservation.
Because she was her little aunt’s daughter, she had handed many assistant tasks over to the secretary.
She didn’t know what Mo Nono had been thinking to choose such a place.
She rubbed her forehead and casually looked out the window.
The city’s glittering nightlife seemed to lie at her feet.
When Jiang Chen entered, this was the scene she saw: the blonde woman lazily leaning against the table, dressed casually, with a diamond stud earring hanging from her exposed fair earlobe.
“Sister.”
Jiang Chen stood in front of her.
President Wang turned her head.
The pink-haired girl had changed out of the previous black halter dress and was now wearing a white off-shoulder short-sleeve with ruffled edges, paired with a light green short skirt and flat shoes.
She was carrying a bag in her hand.
She narrowed her eyes slightly, watching Jiang Chen hand the bag over to her.
“What is this?”
President Wang thought the other party had bought her a gift and was about to refuse.
“These shoes are too expensive. I can’t accept them.”
Jiang Chen handed the bag over, but President Wang didn’t take it.
“They were bought for you in the first place. Even if you return them, I’ll just leave them aside.”
President Wang looked at her.
Jiang Chen’s eyes should have been soft and non-aggressive, but she detected a hint of stubbornness.
“Then I’ll hold onto them for now.”
President Wang took the bag and set it aside.
Although her expression didn’t change, Jiang Chen somehow felt that the other party was a bit unhappy.
“Sister?”
“Sit down. The dishes will be served soon.”
President Wang let out a soft sigh in her heart. Her thoughts were in disarray.
She pushed the black box on the table over.
Jiang Chen opened it and saw her wristband.
The number on it had changed to 13.
It wasn’t convenient to check task progress here, so Jiang Chen simply put the wristband on her wrist.
The two ate this meal in silence, even quieter than when they had first met.
It made sense—they had been complete strangers until yesterday.
So what did their current development count as?
President Wang set down her utensils and looked at the girl in front of her.
“What’s your name?”
She pointed to her phone, which showed the chat with Jiang Chen.
“Jiang Chen. The ‘Jiang’ from ginger, the ‘Chen’ from orange.”
President Wang let out a soft laugh. Jiang Chen was a bit puzzled.
“Do you still go to school normally?”
President Wang set down her phone and looked at Jiang Chen with her arms crossed.
Jiang Chen was slightly stunned, then understood.
“Actually… I’m not what you think, doing… that kind of thing.”
President Wang didn’t speak, just poured half a glass of orange juice into Jiang Chen’s cup.
“I’ll say it again: if you have any difficulties, you can come to me.”
Saving a wayward girl?
No… President Wang suddenly clarified her own thoughts.
Perhaps she hoped the young girl in front of her could bloom in the garden.
