“Bro, have you ever thought that you might actually be on your period?”
For a moment, Zhu Niao felt the pain in her stomach ease up, though she wasn’t sure if it was because Gou Yu’s massage was really working, or if sharing the same miserable fate with her roommate suddenly made her feel less uncomfortable.
She leaned more toward the latter.
As the saying goes, if you’re the only one stuck copying texts as punishment, that’s called the world’s pain kissing you.
But if a bunch of good brothers are all punished together, it’s more like “When the lord wants his minister dead, the minister has no choice but to die.”
There’s a certain camaraderie in shared suffering.
“No way.” On the other end of the phone, Liu Xie’s tone was full of disbelief, even carrying a hint of mockery at Zhu Niao’s explanation. “I’m not a girl, how could I…”
Halfway through, it seemed she suddenly realized something.
Then, she spoke to Zhu Niao with an incredulous tone: “I… am a girl?”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Zhu Niao’s tone was flat, as if pitying someone about to die. “If you really don’t believe me, you can pinch the two lumps of fat on your chest hard.”
From the phone came Tom Cat’s scream of pain. Zhu Niao wasn’t surprised that Liu Xie actually did pinch herself.
“I believe you.” Liu Xie’s voice sounded weak. “So what should I do now?”
Zhu Niao was genuinely curious about how Liu Xie could come up with the idea to blame blood in urine on her period before even realizing she was female.
“Aren’t you supposed to get some pads? Have those two bring some back for you, then just watch a couple of videos online about how to take care of yourself, isn’t that enough?” Zhu Niao said, but at this moment, a bright smile was on her face.
Just thinking that Liu Xie was even more clueless than herself filled her with an uncontrollable joy.
It was like finding out you failed a test and then realizing your brother failed too—and his score was way lower than yours.
At that point, all that’s left is happiness.
“But those two aren’t in the dorm.” Liu Xie’s voice sounded even weaker, as if the realization of being on her period had suddenly drained her strength.
“Where did they go?”
Zhu Niao had a bad feeling.
If she had come alone today, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, but if Liu Xie—who had also turned into a girl—was having her period on the same day, things might get complicated.
“The dorm leader got borrowed by Xu Nian today, no idea what for.” Liu Xie thought for a moment. “As for Third Sister, I don’t know where she went, but it probably has something to do with that electronic pet of hers.”
Now Zhu Niao understood why Liu Xie had called her. Turns out, everyone in the dorm was gone.
Suddenly, Zhu Niao thought of something and asked, “What about your brother? Haven’t you called him?”
“Of course I thought of that, but he can’t get into the girls’ dorm. What’s the use of calling him?” Liu Xie’s tone was matter-of-fact.
“No, bro.” Zhu Niao really sat up on the bed this time.
She still held the phone, looking quite businesslike and hurried, while Gou Yu, lying next to her and tucked under the blanket, looked like a top-notch foot bath therapist in a private room.
“He can’t enter the girls’ dorm, so can’t you just go outside?” Zhu Niao questioned Liu Xie.
“But I can’t move right now. I’m sealed.”
When Liu Xie said this, her voice on the other end of the line sounded even more exhausted. “I’m doing a handstand right now. If I can’t keep this position, it’ll leak out.”
Zhu Niao fell silent.
She tried to say something multiple times but was stopped by the vivid mental image.
Liu Xie wasn’t joking—she could really pull something like this off.
And Zhu Niao could clearly picture that scene.
“Then why don’t you just handstand your way downstairs?” Zhu Niao’s tone carried a hint of self-abandonment.
But on the other side, Liu Xie suddenly brightened. “Hey, that actually makes sense.”
Zhu Niao even heard rustling sounds, as if Liu Xie was attempting it.
“Whoa, no, don’t actually crawl down! You’ll ruin the dorm’s reputation. I’m coming right now, just stay put.”
Zhu Niao looked at Gou Yu lying beside her, half-buried in the blanket, his bright eyes staring intently at her.
She knew this guy was putting on that little girl act just to gross her out, but she had no choice but to swallow her disgust and softly said, “Old dog, can you give me a ride?”
Then she saw the corner of Gou Yu’s mouth curl up into a mischievous grin. “No way, no way. I just want to lie here in bed, nowhere else.”
The girl’s expression instantly turned cold as she clenched her fist precisely above Gou Yu’s waist through the blanket.
“I think I just gave you a break.”
“Bro, I messed up, really did. I’m driving you now.” Gou Yu crawled out from under the blanket.
Only the little kitten remained. It seemed to have finally gotten some peace with that annoying guy gone. The little orange tabby rubbed against Zhu Niao’s arm and slipped under the blanket.
Unfortunately, Zhu Niao had to leave.
She reached out to pat the kitten’s head, as if saying goodbye.
She got out of bed. Her condition was indeed much better than at first.
Though the dull cramps were still there, at least her steps weren’t as unsteady as before.
Zhu Niao opened her wardrobe. All the adult clothes were neatly packed away in a hidden box, replaced by other regular outfits.
She chose a white puff-sleeved long-sleeve blouse and a black skirt that fell straight down to her ankles.
Amid the little kitten’s reluctant meows, Zhu Niao climbed onto Gou Yu’s back seat.
The school wasn’t far from home, and Gou Yu didn’t drive as fast as usual, not to mention his tall frame almost blocked all the wind.
But Zhu Niao wasn’t in good shape. When she slowly walked into the dorm, she felt it was eerily quiet.
There was no one on Yang Shuli and Ye Qingchang’s beds. Just as Liu Xie said, they’d gone out and couldn’t help.
So Zhu Niao turned toward Liu Xie’s bed.
She saw pale lips and a trembling hand reaching out toward her.
“Little bird…”
“Sorry, bro, I’m late.”
Zhu Niao rummaged through her cross-body bag and pulled out a pink, thickly packaged item. She took one out.
“Bro, here—have a pad.”
