Bai Shuanglian had to admit, this time it was her lack of experience—she’d been a bit careless.
But she truly hadn’t expected that after eliminating so many Devils, there would still be one that slipped through the net.
Still, it didn’t matter. She had now found where that fish was hiding.
Next, she would make up for her oversight.
The Golden Magic Circle beneath Bai Shuanglian’s feet suddenly radiated a dazzling brilliance, enveloping her within.
Immediately, the Exorcist lady felt a shift in space and understood the array had activated successfully, transporting her to that cavern.
It hadn’t been long before the radiance gradually faded.
Bai Shuanglian stepped out of the light’s embrace and looked around.
This was an Underground Cavern at least the size of a soccer field.
Such a vast place made one wonder how it hadn’t collapsed.
The cavern wasn’t dim; on the contrary, it was quite bright.
However, the light here was magma-red, making it easy to associate with the Hell of legend.
A faint sulfur smell drifted from an unknown source.
Bai Shuanglian’s gaze moved slowly across the surroundings, and the Ice-Blue Longsword in her hand gleamed with azure light, ready to strike at any moment.
But then, Bai Shuanglian froze—she didn’t see any trace of a Devil here.
Could it be that I startled them before, causing them to abandon this place and flee?
Bai Shuanglian wondered, her doubts only deepening.
She’d been puzzled before: how had there been any survivors after her repeated purges?
Moreover, she hadn’t left this Garden District since arriving yesterday, so how had they escaped right under her nose?
Doubt filled Bai Shuanglian’s heart, making her feel a bit uneasy.
After all, she still lacked enough experience handling these kinds of matters.
If one of the old Exorcists from the Clan had come, they probably would’ve spotted the problem at a glance.
Bai Shuanglian sighed inwardly.
But she didn’t dwell on it.
Experience was something that accumulated day by day; no one could claim to have decades of Exorcism experience just after leaving the Clan.
If such a person did exist, there were only two possibilities: either they’d awakened memories of a past life, or they’d been possessed by someone else.
As for Bai Shuanglian, she didn’t like either option.
“Hmm? Is this…a Law Array?”
She activated her Dharma Eye.
Soon, she found a Law Array at the center of the cavern, glowing with crimson light.
She walked over, examined it briefly, and quickly understood it was an array used for sacrifice to some being.
Judging by the lingering Spirit Power, it must’ve been used not long ago.
Could my earlier unease have been caused by this array’s sacrifice?
Bai Shuanglian pondered, but her hands didn’t stop moving.
She raised the Ice-Blue Longsword, sword energy charged and ready, and slashed at the array before her.
“Kacha!!”
Under the azure sword light, the array was cut as easily as paper.
The split array flickered twice as if unwilling, then faded into nothing under the sword’s destructive power.
It’s over.
Next, she would continue to hunt down the remaining Devils.
What a pity—she wouldn’t be able to play with the Little Pen Immortal for a while.
Bai Shuanglian glanced at the disintegrating Law Array, its magic dissipating, and turned to leave.
Suddenly, crimson light erupted beneath her feet!
The collapsing magic surged as if drawn by some force, gathering at the spot beneath Bai Shuanglian.
Countless runes formed points and lines, weaving a Law Array at her feet in an instant.
Finally, a complete array materialized beneath her, and a Red Barrier rose from it, encasing her.
Though the process seemed long, it took less than a breath.
Bai Shuanglian, about to leave, hadn’t anticipated such a turn.
She frowned, her delicate brows drawing together, and reached out to touch the Red Barrier.
“Pa!”
Scarlet lightning burst where Bai Shuanglian touched the barrier, striking her fair fingers.
Pain shot through her.
She withdrew her hand and looked at her fingertips—they were charred black.
So, it really is a trap meant to confine me here?
A Healing Green Light bloomed from her fingertip, slowly healing the wound.
The burning pain faded, but Bai Shuanglian’s mood didn’t improve.
She understood: where there was a trap, there was a trap-setter.
And it wasn’t hard to guess who that might be.
Footsteps approached.
Bai Shuanglian looked in their direction and saw a Devil, pitch-black from head to toe.
“Hahaha! So even you have a day like this, Exorcist!”
The Devil laughed wildly, vertical pupils filled with mockery as they looked at Bai Shuanglian.
“You killed so many of our comrades, but now you’ve fallen into our trap all the same!”
“And it’s all thanks to how openly you broadcast your presence—otherwise, we couldn’t have pinned down your location to set this up!”
“But you can’t really blame yourself; after all, the Concealing Talisman bestowed by The Master isn’t something you can see through!”
“Hahahaha!”
The Devil’s laughter echoed.
But after a while, they felt something was off.
Why was this woman so calm?
Her reaction wasn’t at all like someone who’d fallen into a trap.
The laughter died.
The Devil frowned at Bai Shuanglian.
She simply stared back, her cool face expressionless.
What’s with this woman?
Why isn’t she reacting?
Is she an idiot?
Doubt flickered through the Devil’s mind, then turned to shock.
Bai Shuanglian glanced down at the Law Array beneath her, then drew her fully-charged Ice-Blue Longsword and slashed again.
A scene of horror unfolded before the Devil.
Under the blade, the barrier—one even Nascent Soul Stage Cultivators couldn’t break—was sliced open as easily as paper, leaving a half-person-high gap.
[Devil’s curse]
Where had this monster come from, to break the array’s barrier so easily?
The Devil cursed inwardly.
Seeing Bai Shuanglian preparing a second strike, the Devil dared not hesitate.
All their backup measures were triggered at once.
In an instant, three more Law Arrays—large, medium, and small—layered beneath Bai Shuanglian, trapping her again.
In a flash, the effects of Forbidden Magic, Physique Reduction, and Array Regeneration manifested.
The barrier that had been split quickly mended.
Bai Shuanglian’s longsword grew heavy, and the Spirit Power within her stilled, as if mired in quicksand.
There were other arrays?
Bai Shuanglian’s brows knit tighter as she looked at the layers of arrays encasing her.
This was truly troublesome.
Seeing the terrifying woman finally halt, the Devil let out a long sigh of relief.
Luckily, I’m naturally cautious—or I really might’ve been killed by this Exorcist’s barrage.
