Tang Xin had heard of the term “Ghost Fire Youth,” which was almost synonymous with “Energetic Youngster.”
But she had only ever heard about them in passing and never expected to witness them firsthand like this today.
What surprised her even more was Sui Xin’s expression — as if a wolf had caught sight of meat.
To be honest… Tang Xin thought a better description might be “a dog spotting poop.”
She didn’t think these flashy two-wheelers were anything good; just a glance was enough for her to smell the scent of danger.
Yet Sui Xin was utterly thrilled.
She excitedly tossed her backpack aside, hopped onto one of the death-pink scooters, and after the girl driving in front got on, she grinned widely and sped off.
Her previously cold demeanor had completely vanished.
Even if Tang Xin wasn’t very perceptive, she could now at least be certain that this girl truly loved these things.
She squatted by the roadside, watching the group’s performance.
Unlike motorcycles, electric scooters made hardly any noise.
The street echoed only with bursts of ghostly wails, including Sui Xin’s own voice.
Perhaps these guys had some slight consideration, as they avoided residential areas, so they didn’t disturb anyone too much.
Still, Tang Xin felt it was very inappropriate — mainly because it was too dangerous.
She saw the front of a scooter lift off the ground more than once, and Sui Xin nearly fell off several times.
But this only made her more excited.
She didn’t worry at all about the risk of injury or disfigurement; it seemed like she threw all caution to the wind, accompanied only by the wind rushing past her ears, constantly urging the girl driving in front, “Faster! Even faster!”
Tang Xin was dumbfounded.
She had thought maybe someone in this group was the object of Sui Xin’s affection or admiration, but now it seemed the girl simply liked riding on their vehicles.
She glanced back at Pei Xingyan not far away and found him equally amused and bewildered.
Both of them were lost in confusion.
After all the ruckus had lasted a long time and it was almost midnight, the dangerously reckless activity finally came to an end.
Sui Xin climbed down from the scooter’s back seat, returning to her previous expression — as if nothing mattered to her at all.
A boy awkwardly approached, trying to say something, but she ignored him completely without even glancing in his direction, slinging her backpack over her shoulder as she left.
“What a pitiful group of tools,” Pei Xingyan’s voice suddenly whispered into Tang Xin’s ear, making her startle violently — her soul nearly scattering.
“Annoying!” she snapped, “You scared me to death.”
“I wonder if Her Highness the Princess will reimburse them for their scooter charging fees?” Pei Xingyan showed no remorse for frightening her, a smirk tugging at his lips as he evaluated what they had just witnessed, “I don’t think so. From her perspective, they’re probably just a bunch of free tools.”
“Maybe!” Tang Xin said, “Who in the world is dumb enough to let themselves be used for free? Today’s probably just a coincidence.”
“You still don’t understand men,” Pei Xingyan curled his lip, “Remember, among male groups, there are plenty of individuals willing to bet everything on a tiny sliver of hope for a possibility. Especially when it comes to courting — even if Sui Xin never shows them a friendly face, they at least think they have a chance. And that’s just because these guys are broke; otherwise, you’d have seen even more.”
“No way…” Tang Xin was speechless.
“Forget it, that’s not what we need to focus on,” Pei Xingyan said.
“I’ve thought through the details you sent me and the voice calls you made earlier. I think we can come to a conclusion now.”
“What’s that?”
“I feel that Sui Xin is only hanging out with these guys because she likes their ghost fire scooters.”
Pei Xingyan chuckled uncontrollably, breaking into laughter several times as he spoke, “You didn’t see the look on her face after she got on the scooter — not even the craziest racer I’ve met was this ridiculous.”
“I saw it, it was really exaggerated.”
Tang Xin wasn’t focused on that.
She asked, “But how can you be sure she’s only interested in the scooters?”
“Because someone said it.”
Pei Xingyan gave her a look like she was a little slow, “Wasn’t that the answer you got? Someone said, ‘Sometimes she’s on our side, but other times she’s not,’ and after they finished, she didn’t even glance back once before leaving. That’s proof enough she has no feelings for these people.”
“That sounds so cold…”
“Well, actually, it’s not so bad. After all, she’s not going to go home pregnant, like her mother feared.”
Pei Xingyan maintained his usual optimism, “That’s a good thing for us.”
“A good thing? How is that a good thing?”
“If she likes the ghost fire scooters and not anyone in that group, then we can lure her away from them,” Pei Xingyan said.
“I saw clearly just now — this girl reminds me a lot of someone I know, a total speed junkie. The moment the girl in front hit the throttle, Sui Xin got excited like someone switched on a toy.”
“Your metaphor is a bit… creepy.”
“There’s no better way to say it,” Pei Xingyan grinned sheepishly, then quickly changed the subject, “So, what do you think of my plan?”
“You deleted the time? I didn’t hear a thing.”
“In other words, we get a vehicle that can reach high speeds, lure her away from those guys, then use a unique speed experience to blackmail her into going back to the college entrance exam, how’s that?”
Pei Xingyan was proud of his perfect plan.
He couldn’t think of any flaws.
Not only would it perfectly meet Teacher Yang’s requirements, but unlike the previous two girls, it wouldn’t be too forceful and risk getting too deep into trouble that would require difficult damage control afterward.
But Tang Xin mercilessly poured cold water on him, “I think your plan has a fatal flaw and isn’t very feasible.”
“How is it not feasible?”
“From my observations, Sui Xin might be willing to hang out with those thugs for some reason, but she’s actually very guarded. She doesn’t maintain any real contact with them, doesn’t drink anything handed over by strangers, and I haven’t even seen her have any physical contact with any guy. Do you really think she’d blindly hop on your vehicle?”
“Huh?”
Pei Xingyan heard the sound of something shattering — it was his pride crashing down.
If Sui Xin really was such a pure and careful girl, then even the first step of his plan would be impossible.
But then, a figure flashed through his mind.
A troublesome figure.
He gave a wry smile and assured Tang Xin, “Don’t worry, I have a way. If guys won’t work, then girls… I just happen to know one.”
