Mina, already dressed, was the first to dash over holding a dagger.
Right behind her came the rest of the elves, all with emotionless gazes that sent chills down the spine of anyone who looked.
“The madman beside her still hasn’t appeared.”
Amidina’s eyes swept around.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll take this chance to break the magic. You find a way to escape!”
No sooner had she finished speaking, Amidina, drawing the Frost Soul Bow, shattered the magic attack aimed straight at Lin Nuo’s back with a single arrow, pulling him behind her before rising to face the enemy.
The bow, guided by Amidina’s fluid movements, blocked a dagger from one of the attackers with a sharp “clang.”
The battle was about to erupt!
There was no way to win… Lin Nuo quickly assessed the situation and looked around.
A strange magical power swirled around Amidina’s body.
She was fighting alone against a dozen or so elves and was even vaguely gaining the upper hand.
But Lin Nuo also noticed that although Parkes had ordered his hands and feet to be severed, the few elves stationed at the edge of the Sound-Sealing Magic showed no intention of killing him…
Was this a trick?
‘Were they still afraid of the Clemence Family behind me?’
‘I’m completely safe now…’
Or perhaps…
‘They’re hiding something big, waiting for me?’
“Hehe… Look what I found, another noble—highborn, elegant, heroic, and delicious!”
A hoarse, low laugh appeared ghostlike from behind at some unknown moment.
A man in tattered coarse gray cloth, gaunt and frail-looking, resembled a beggar sitting in the mud of a dark alley.
With a neurotic, eerie smile, he approached at an indescribable speed, leaving Lin Nuo no time to react.
“May I ask, could you please tell me your—oh no… your revered name worthy of worship?”
The man grabbed Lin Nuo’s pant leg tightly.
His hair was tangled like cobwebs, but when he looked up, his eyes shone frighteningly: “Lin Nuo Clemence, you are Lin Nuo Clemence! I’ve seen you! I’ve seen you!”
Like a starving jackal, he crouched half-crazed, his fanatical gaze scanning Lin Nuo as if he wanted to devour him alive:
“Why do you wear such a terrified expression? That’s not you! Look at your noble and illustrious identity. How naive a noble you must be to think someone as lowly as me would dare harm someone as highborn as you…”
“Your family’s doorstep is more precious than my ancestral Shrine… The scraps your family tosses away, I would cherish in my arms like sacred relics! May you live forever in honeyed bliss…”
“Do not, please do not pity me… My suffering is the stepping stone for your nobility. That is my duty. It is God’s will!”
Seeing that man appear, Amidina’s long, distinct eyelashes seemed almost to frost over.
She desperately opened her mouth to warn Lin Nuo, but the continuous flurry of blades and shadows left her no chance to shout a warning.
Staring at this figure before him, wearing boots with exposed toes and staggering, his filthy hands wildly clawing at his hair, occasionally letting out a chilling, sinister laugh circling around him—
Lin Nuo felt a drop of sweat trickle down his temple.
Sinister…
Too sinister!
‘It’s not your fault you look creepy, but damn it, scaring people is your fault.’
This neurotic man felt more dangerous than the lofty Parkes.
“Look at your neat clothes… even the cuffs are trimmed with gold…”
“But I… was born to slave drivers’ whips, picking cotton under their urging… hehe!” His dirty eyelids revealed bright, bloodshot eyes: “I’ve struggled for thirty years and only earned a Jade Buckle reward. Why do you…”
“Why do you, so noble, have it from birth!”
Frantically, like a mad dog losing reason, he clawed the ground with muddy hands, his sharp curses twisting his face beyond recognition.
Damn… this guy is way too sinister!
Lin Nuo felt a cold chill rush up the back of his neck.
Even if you started with a hundred summons, it’s got nothing to do with me!
The man before him laughed hoarsely again and suddenly lunged.
The timid, respectful side of him toward Lin Nuo’s identity instantly vanished, replaced by venomous hatred and curses.
Lin Nuo saw those dirt-covered hands claw fiercely at his neck—
“Bang!!!”
Unexpectedly, the attack, too fast for the naked eye, froze just inches from the artery in his neck as if an invisible force resisted it.
It was like an impenetrable wall of air standing before him, blocking the strike…
Lin Nuo sensed a familial affinity in this power, a magical force inherited from his father.
“Ssss—”
On the gaunt arm thrust toward him, the skin and tissue began to wither visibly under this unknown, unmatched power, as if scalded by boiling water, rapidly decaying until horrifying white bones showed through…
“Teach him a lesson… Vitz!”
“How dare you try to kill him here? You’re asking for death!”
From a distance, Parkes stopped murmuring nonsense, even losing the arrogance of an elder and cursing furiously to stop the attack.
What was more shocking was, despite this, Vitz did not cease trying to snap Lin Nuo’s neck.
His eyes turned even bloodier, his curses darker and more vicious:
“What I hate most is scum like you… Sooner or later! I will kill everyone who’s ever oppressed me… I’ll stand on the heads of all those who trampled me… hehe…”
“I told you I know you… hehe, you’ll be the 200th I’ve eaten! I swear it!”
As he finished speaking, the rotting hand, with skin and flesh decomposing so fast that the bones nearly showed, advanced an incredible extra distance!
He really wasn’t afraid of death!
Realizing this, Lin Nuo’s mind screamed an alarm.
But the magic bound to him by the attacker kept his legs frozen; he could only watch as the mud-covered fingernail frantically fought against the magic protecting him, crazily struggling closer and closer to his neck…
At that moment, a sudden change—
“Crack—!!”
The invisible magical shield protecting him suddenly emitted a fragile, glass-shattering sound as if emptied by some unknown force.
The strength holding back Vitz instantly collapsed as it was weakened.
!!
‘Danger!’
His heart pounded wildly, a premonition that losing this protection would mean death was upon him!
The skin on his neck almost felt the rapidly approaching hand’s extreme coldness and intense chill.
Lin Nuo swore this was the closest he had ever felt to death.
The man before him, still wearing that eerie, neurotic smile, suddenly froze motionless.
