This was beyond her current understanding. She would have to study the principles behind this carefully.
If she could unravel the secret, perhaps she could open a new branch of technology to counter Demons in this world.
The black gemstone floating in the Soul Summoner Princess’s palm seemed to sense Luo Shuangyue’s presence. It bounced twice, trying to get closer to Luo Shuangyue, but as a gem, it could barely move.
Luo Shuangyue reached out and gently touched the black gemstone.
An innate sense of closeness arose from her heart. She felt incredibly in sync with this gem.
The consciousness within the gem responded in kind, sending out signals of joy.
“It should be a good child.” Luo Shuangyue looked up at the Soul Summoner Princess and said.
“But I’m more curious if this can be replicated. Can we use other Demons’ Original Magic Power to create similar good children?”
The Soul Summoner Princess smiled at Luo Shuangyue.
Seeing that smile, Luo Shuangyue shuddered slightly. She sensed there was more behind that smile than met the eye.
“Little Die, stay a few more days in Jidong City and help with our research, will you?”
Luo Shuangyue gasped inwardly. She had just disintegrated once for this matter—was this how they planned to squeeze her dry?
“Your magic power issues haven’t been fully resolved yet. It’s perfect—while you fix your magic power, you can also participate in our research.”
The Soul Summoner Princess coaxed her gently. She promised that Jidong City wouldn’t let Luo Shuangyue suffer any loss, and that the rewards would be generous if she helped.
She almost added a saying from the West District:
…Well, fine. I suppose I need to rest for a day or two first.
“No problem! If you need anything, just call me. I’ll have someone bring it to you!”
The Soul Summoner Princess laughed heartily, clearly very pleased with Luo Shuangyue’s cooperation.
After parting with the Soul Summoner Princess, Luo Shuangyue and Xia Mo returned to their hotel just as the morning sun reached its peak.
So much had happened in this one day and night—from seeking out the Soul Summoner Princess to the sudden aberration, and finally the attack of the Resentful Spirit Demon Emperor.
Luo Shuangyue hadn’t had a moment to rest.
In the end, she exhausted herself to the point of disintegration.
Now, all she wanted was to lie down and sleep soundly.
But just as she was about to do so, Xia Mo forcefully dragged her into the bathroom, cleaned her up, and changed her into pajamas before letting her go.
The entire bathing process left Luo Shuangyue groggy. All thoughts of shyness and embarrassment dissolved in the face of overwhelming fatigue.
Even after changing into her pajamas and lying in bed, she didn’t realize Xia Mo had carried her into a different room than the one she’d fallen asleep in the night before.
By the time Xia Mo finished bathing and entered the room with damp hair, Luo Shuangyue had already closed her eyes and drifted into dreams.
She was utterly exhausted.
Watching Luo Shuangyue’s peaceful sleeping face, Xia Mo’s lips curved into a faint smile. Today marked a significant step forward in her relationship with Luo Shuangyue.
Luo Shuangyue might not yet realize the significance of everything that had happened today, but when she woke up and remembered these events, her reaction would surely be adorable.
Sensory Link Runes allowed two people to enter a state of mutual understanding—Xia Mo could know what Luo Shuangyue was thinking, and vice versa.
Even though Xia Mo tried hard to control her thoughts, some feelings were impossible to restrain.
For example, when Luo Shuangyue was in danger, Xia Mo’s concern would instinctively slip out—a reflex she couldn’t help.
So long as Luo Shuangyue wasn’t a fool, she would know that Xia Mo had already discovered her true identity.
“Well then, let me think about how I should face you~”
Luo Shuangyue dreamed a bizarre, surreal dream.
[In her dream, she and Xia Mo became the same person. Together, they defeated a villain who looked very much like Shuang Xing. Then, in the next moment, Shuang Xing transformed into Jiu Ye.
It was chaos—too chaotic. Luo Shuangyue stumbled around wildly in the dream, and eventually tripped over a black thorny vine, hitting her head against a wall.
It didn’t hurt, but the world around her turned pitch black. Nearby, a black-eyed girl knelt on the ground, making Luo Shuangyue realize she had fallen into an unpleasant place.
“You know that Demon Emperor you raised? We took it down.”
For some reason, Luo Shuangyue said this to the black-eyed girl.
The girl’s expression was indifferent. “Oh.”
She was already dead. The world’s grudges and resentments no longer concerned her. Now, she just wanted to end it all.
“Don’t you want to say something?”
“I just want to die. Can you please assimilate my consciousness quickly?”
The black-eyed girl turned to look at Luo Shuangyue.
Though her eyes were pure black, Luo Shuangyue distinctly sensed she was rolling her eyes.
Locked away in such a sunless place with no hope for the future, even a Royal-Class Magic Beast could despair.
She just wanted to die, to be done with everything.
But the more she thought this, the harder it was to die. There was nothing here to help her self-destruct. The giant butterfly in the sky ignored her completely, as if she were just a wisp of air.
“Even if you say that, I don’t know how to assimilate you.”
Luo Shuangyue shrugged helplessly. Her understanding of this place was as limited as that of a Royal-Class Magic Beast.
Though this should be a deep layer of her consciousness, she couldn’t manipulate anything here.
Since the Royal-Class Magic Beast was no longer a threat for the time being, she decided to keep it around… Besides, Luo Shuangyue still wanted to ask it where her mother was.
During their last battle in White Night form, this Demon had said something Luo Shuangyue cared deeply about.
“You seem to know something about White Night. Where is she now?”
“You’ll know once you assimilate me.”
“I want you to tell me right now!”
“I won’t say. I won’t betray my kin!”
The Royal-Class Magic Beast flatly refused Luo Shuangyue’s request.
But this reaction made Luo Shuangyue realize something: her mother’s disappearance was indeed complicated.
Revealing White Night’s whereabouts would be betrayal—there was a lot of meaning packed into the Demon’s words.
“Did you also attack her?”
Luo Shuangyue gripped the Demon’s collar, trying to intimidate her with sheer presence.
But the Demon didn’t respond. Like a puppet without will, she hung her head and muttered repeatedly, “Assimilate me quickly. I can’t live like this anymore.”
Her defeated demeanor left Luo Shuangyue with no good options, so she roughly dropped the Demon to the ground.
“Then tell me, how do I use your magic power? Right now, it’s making me feel awful.”
Luo Shuangyue changed the subject.
The Royal-Class Magic Beast tilted her head.
Luo Shuangyue repeated her question.
The Demon said that controlling magic power was purely innate. She was a Demon—manipulating magic was natural to her, nothing she could teach others.
“You’ll know once you assimilate me.”
The Demon stretched out her pale arm toward Luo Shuangyue’s mouth. “Bite it and see?”
Assimilating a consciousness was simplest by literally consuming it.
At least that was the Demon’s idea.
Luo Shuangyue stared at the outstretched fair arm and stepped back hurriedly.
She wasn’t a pervert. How could she possibly swallow a person alive?
No matter if the thing before her was human or not, Luo Shuangyue couldn’t bring herself to bite a creature that looked human—though she knew beneath the surface wasn’t truly a person.
But now, the Royal-Class Magic Beast had the appearance and speech of a human. Luo Shuangyue could only treat her as one.
“Not going to eat it? Then maybe if I change form, you’d eat me?”
The Royal-Class Magic Beast closed her eyes, blushed, and tried to shift back to her previous Demon state.
But after a long while, no demonic traits appeared.
“That’s strange. I can’t change back?”
She was puzzled and began inspecting various parts of her body.
Then she discovered that her body was no longer the same as before.
