Just as she was about to look for Manager Wang, she saw a man in a dark blue tennis outfit walk in quickly.
He headed straight to the little boy and his mother.
Meng Chu’s lips curled upward slightly.
She had seen many interviews of Zheng Qifeng and naturally remembered his face well.
She never expected that the little boy who had just talked to her was actually Zheng Qifeng’s son.
Since the person she wanted to invite had arrived, it was time for her to showcase Xingyuan’s technology.
Meng Chu had rehearsed every word she would say about today’s schedule over and over.
Just as she prepared to go on stage, she looked up and saw a white figure nearby.
Cheng Jinyu was not sitting on a chair but standing quietly, watching her.
Seeing him, her initial nervousness slowly faded away.
She walked up to the giant screen and smiled lightly at the audience, “Hello everyone. Welcome to the Intelligent Future Family Open Day jointly hosted by Xingyuan Technology and Aurora Tennis Club.”
Meng Chu knew the importance of speaking clearly and concisely, so she didn’t say too much.
She directly let everyone enjoy the robot dog’s performance.
The robot dog, already prepared, immediately drew cheers from the children.
The robot dogs formed a formation and began their routine.
Many people had already raised their phones to record.
A mechanical voice slowly sounded:
“Prepare, pay attention to safety. Our performance is about to begin.”
The robot dogs made synchronized gestures, leaped into the air, and performed a front flip, landing in perfect unison.
“Wow, amazing!”
“Mom, look!”
“This robot dog is even more agile than me!”
The previously quiet venue instantly ignited with excitement.
When the robot dogs finished, it was time for the humanoid robots to perform.
Xingyuan’s robots include wheeled and bipedal robots. Today’s performance featured the bipedal models.
When several robots executed front flips simultaneously, the audience erupted.
Robot dogs were small and easy to jump.
But humanoid robots were about the height of an adult.
The audience grew increasingly thrilled as the show continued.
Meng Chu was naturally delighted to see such enthusiastic reactions.
But she knew her real challenge was yet to come.
“I want to ask the kids here, does everyone have a car at home?” Meng Chu held the microphone gently and asked.
Today, to enhance her approachability and fit the tennis court setting, she wore a white dress.
She looked very gentle.
Many children immediately shouted, “I have two cars.”
“I have three cars.”
The adults nearby smiled knowingly.
Meng Chu said, “In 1894, France held the first-ever car race in human history. Back then, everyone wondered if the car could truly replace the horse-drawn carriage as a mode of transportation.”
“There were only 21 cars competing, and on a road over a hundred miles long, some cars leaked oil, some broke their axles, and some couldn’t even start. The fastest car took 11 hours to finish. People at that time laughed at the car.”
“But after a hundred years, cars have become indispensable in every household. Just like the robots we’re developing, many now criticize that our robots only dance or do flips.”
As Meng Chu spoke, the once noisy children fell quiet.
At that moment, a robot dog equipped with a mechanical arm and dexterous hand appeared.
Staff brought a basket of tennis balls.
The mechanical arm began moving, and the dexterous hand reached into the basket, securely grabbing a tennis ball and placing it into another basket.
“As you can see, actions like grabbing tennis balls, so uniquely human, can be broken down into 16 joint angle parameters. We quantify each movement, allowing robots to learn these actions. Our goal is to realize the vision that robots will replace humans in dangerous and repetitive tasks.”
Meng Chu’s gaze was not on Zheng Qifeng.
Holding the microphone, she spoke firmly, “The development and application of humanoid robots currently aim for breakthroughs in large-scale smart factories. Robots can replace humans in high-temperature and toxic environments, making production more precise and efficient.”
Then she played a video on the big screen.
Robots moved throughout a factory workshop, carrying heavy objects, coordinating sorting, and performing precise assembly.
Everyone looked up at the video.
The vivid imagery of a futuristic smart factory felt like a glimpse into the future.
Is this the future world?
Standing confidently at the front, Meng Chu exuded self-assurance when talking about Xingyuan’s technology.
She believed in Xingyuan’s technical strength.
This confidence made her glow with a special charm.
Cheng Jinyu stood with his hands in his pockets at the back of the crowd, watching the radiant figure.
At that moment, what attracted everyone was not her beauty, but her bold and confident demeanor.
Everyone was drawn to her words, listening quietly and attentively.
The event lasted a full hour.
When it was time for audience interaction, the children got up from their seats to approach the robots.
Xingyuan’s human-machine interaction capabilities were outstanding; the robots understood commands well.
Children asked the robot dog to perform various actions.
The little boy who had talked to Meng Chu earlier ran over excitedly, shouting, “Sister, your robots are amazing!”
“Did you interact with the robots?” Meng Chu smiled.
The boy replied disappointedly, “Not yet. Everyone’s competing for it.”
Meng Chu called over some colleagues from Engineering to take the children specifically to interact.
At that moment, Zheng Qifeng also approached, his gaze fixed on Meng Chu.
Meng Chu took the initiative, “Hello, Mr. Zheng. I’m Meng Chu, Operations Director of Xingyuan Technology.”
Zheng Qifeng’s expression was calm, showing no signs of emotion.
After a while, he said quietly, “Ms. Meng, you’ve really put in a lot of effort.”
Hearing this, Meng Chu smiled.
Obviously, Zheng Qifeng saw through her true intentions.
He knew this event was aimed directly at him.
Meng Chu showed no signs of nervousness but calmly said, “Mr. Zheng, if possible, I would prefer to explain in detail Xingyuan Technology’s core technologies to you, and also the large-scale application plans for humanoid robots and smart factories that I have long wanted to promote.”
Zheng Qifeng stared at Meng Chu.
“Ms. Meng, do you always take such unconventional approaches?”
This was no mere politeness.
After all, this tennis club was part of Zheng Qifeng’s private life.
Meng Chu had obviously done her homework before holding the event here.
Anyone in his position wouldn’t feel happy about it.
If he had a bad temper, he might have already been looking for trouble.
Meng Chu sighed softly and said earnestly, “Mr. Zheng, what I wanted most before was a fair chance to showcase Xingyuan. But unfortunately, I never got that opportunity.”
“But now, what I’m doing can no longer be called fair. I just want this event to be a testament to Xingyuan Technology’s efforts.”
Zheng Qifeng finally showed a special expression.
“You’re honest.”
Meng Chu smiled slightly.
Zheng Qifeng looked at his son not far away and said lightly, “Ms. Meng, since you haven’t dealt much with me, you should know I hate mixing business with personal matters.”
Meng Chu sincerely replied, “That’s right, Mr. Zheng, I—”
Before she could speak further, Zheng Qifeng cut her off.
“I don’t like discussing work when I’m with family. But come to Linjiang Group on Monday.”
Meng Chu wanted to say something but froze as she heard this.
Zheng Qifeng just nodded slightly.
“Well, I’ll take my leave now.”
He stepped past Meng Chu and walked toward his family.
But Meng Chu didn’t care about his departure.
Instead, she clenched her fists tightly.
No matter the outcome, at least everything she had done was worthwhile.
She originally wanted to go find Cheng Jinyu but was stopped by someone nearby.
Also a member of the tennis club, the woman smiled and introduced herself as the tennis event promoter, interested in Xingyuan’s robot performance and wanting to discuss cooperation.
Although Meng Chu hoped to expand her client base, she never expected anyone to be truly interested.
So she controlled her impulse to find Cheng Jinyu and instead started talking business.
–
At that moment, Zheng Qifeng finished a phone call and happened to see Cheng Jinyu standing nearby.
“Mr. Cheng, I was just wondering why you called me last night to play tennis but then I came and didn’t see you,” Zheng Qifeng said politely.
Although Zheng Qifeng held high power at Linjiang Group, he didn’t want to offend someone like Cheng Jinyu.
Cheng Jinyu rarely smiled warmly, “Thank you for gracing us with your presence.”
Zheng Qifeng glanced toward Meng Chu, still chatting with others, and said knowingly, “So your invitation was just a pretext, huh?”
“Please forgive me, Mr. Zheng,” Cheng Jinyu said humbly, genuinely asking for understanding.
Zheng Qifeng was willing to give face but curiously asked, “So, Yunji Capital intends to invest in Xingyuan Technology?”
Cheng Jinyu shook his head.
His clear and straightforward black eyes were now filled with warmth.
“Giving talented people the chance to showcase their abilities — who would refuse that?”
Zheng Qifeng understood now.
He wasn’t refusing Xingyuan Technology.
He was refusing Ms. Meng.
He chuckled, “But it seems Ms. Meng doesn’t even know you called me.”
“Mr. Zheng, I know you wouldn’t be biased just because of my call. If Linjiang Group really cooperates with Xingyuan Technology in the future, it won’t be because of this call but because of your business judgment,” Cheng Jinyu said calmly, acting as if that call was nothing.
Zheng Qifeng nodded.
He really feared Cheng Jinyu might turn into a lobbyist for Meng Chu.
If Cheng Jinyu really opened his mouth on this, it’d be hard to refuse.
Curious, he asked, “Are you sure she’ll succeed in persuading me to cooperate?”
“She said that as long as she works hard, there will always be opportunities. I believe her,” Cheng Jinyu said with certainty in his calm tone.
At that moment, Zheng Qifeng’s youngest son called him from afar.
Zheng Qifeng excused himself.
Before leaving, Cheng Jinyu suddenly said, “Mr. Zheng, I really want to play a game with you sometime.”
Zheng Qifeng immediately understood that Cheng Jinyu didn’t want Ms. Meng to know he had called.
“Don’t worry,” Zheng Qifeng nodded and left.
Finally, Meng Chu finished her discussion.
Amidst the bustling crowd, she looked toward the figure not far away.
That tall silhouette was still there.
Meng Chu pushed through the crowd and came straight to Cheng Jinyu.
She looked up at him with joy.
“Zheng Qifeng agreed to meet me on Monday. That’s good news, and I wanted to share it with you first.”
Cheng Jinyu lowered his head slightly.
When the afternoon sunlight passed over his eyes, it was like fragments of light falling deep within, dazzling and overwhelming.
“What you want, you will get.”
His deep voice was like the lingering resonance of a plucked string, ringing softly in her ears.
