The rain in the Imperial Capital had lasted for a full day and a half, coinciding exactly with the day the final extra assessment was set to begin, and finally, the weather cleared up.
Puddles still lingered on the ground, and the air remained damp as the students who had officially become members of the Imperial Magic Academy gradually made their way into the Academy.
By around eight in the morning, everyone had gathered, and Lord Elvis arrived at the perfect moment to address them.
“Then, as I mentioned two days ago, today you will face the last assessment before officially enrolling. Your results will determine the resources you receive, including class and mentor assignments, even your accommodation conditions. And, of course, as I said before, the top scorer will be granted any conditions within the rules.”
After briefly explaining the purpose of this final assessment, Lord Elvis looked at the crowd and continued, “This test will be harsher than any before and will most directly reveal your current combat capabilities.”
His words left the students somewhat stunned.
Without further explanation, Lord Elvis turned and walked away.
Three mentors then stepped forward, one of whom was Herbert.
“Follow us.” Herbert took the lead, arms crossed, his trademark smile gracing his lips.
“Let me show you the depth of the Roland Empire’s strength as the continent’s most powerful magical empire.”
This caught Li Xian’s attention.
Come to think of it, aside from the Roland Empire, he wasn’t very familiar with any other countries on the continent.
The students followed Herbert and the other two mentors deeper into the Academy.
After a long, winding walk, they finally arrived at their destination.
Herbert stopped first, staring at the huge Magic Formation before them.
His gaze suddenly grew somewhat wistful, and he said, “We all know that magic is divided into different tiers… Junior Tier for low-level mages, Entry Tier for intermediate mages, Regular Tier for advanced mages, and then the Transcendent Tier for those beyond, and finally the Legendary Tier for the strongest among us. This, essentially, is the limit of humanity…”
His words left the students confused.
After all, these were basics everyone knew—common knowledge that Li Xian himself understood well.
If that was the case, why emphasize it now?
Their doubts didn’t last long, for Herbert soon provided the answer.
“And the Magic Formation before you…” His voice even carried a slight tremor, “is a Sixth Tier Magic that surpasses humanity’s limits, breaking human shackles!”
“Sixth Tier?” The exclamation caused a stir behind him.
Li Xian raised an eyebrow as well.
The existence of the Sixth Tier was no secret.
In fact, the five tiers were simply humanity’s way of classifying their own strength.
Many non-human species on the continent already surpassed these limits—not to mention the actual existence of the Heaven Realm and the Demon Realm.
But for a human to break past the Fifth Tier limit and reach the Sixth Tier?
That was truly astonishing.
Li Xian felt that even he was still far from breaking that boundary or wielding power beyond the Legendary Tier.
So what exactly was the function of this formation?
Did it have anything to do with their upcoming assessment?
Surely they hadn’t been brought here just to look at it.
As Li Xian pondered this question, Herbert answered his doubts.
“Today’s assessment will give you the honor of using the most basic function of this formation—Spatial Transmission.”
“Spatial Transmission? But… isn’t space-time magic exclusive to certain special races?” a voice below immediately questioned.
“That’s why I called it a miracle.” Herbert’s mouth curved into a confident smile.
“By triggering the space-time energy within the extremely rare Spatial Magic Beast Magic Core using this formation and operating it along a specific magical trajectory, we can wield space-time magic that humans could never master on their own.”
As he finished speaking, Herbert channeled magic into the formation.
The Magic Formation, which covered hundreds of square meters, began to emit a faint white glow, looking quite spectacular.
Under Herbert’s instructions, the students stepped inside the formation.
Then the immense magical power began to spin along a peculiar trajectory.
The white light quickly grew stronger, eventually drowning out everything else.
In their vision, only a pure, blinding white remained.
Most had to close their eyes from the intensity of the light, but Li Xian kept his eyes open, studying the complex magical patterns in deep thought.
After a moment, the brightness faded, and the surrounding scenery had completely changed.
Dense jungle stretched in every direction, massive trees blotting out the sky.
“This place is…” As the students opened their eyes, they were all shocked by what lay before them.
“It really is Spatial Transmission…” Light looked around the forest.
Without a doubt, this was the Northern Wildwood!
“Is it really possible? Something like this…” After his initial shock, excitement grew in Light’s heart.
The limits of magic could indeed reach this far!
“Now, a few final notes on the assessment—or rather, the competition rules.”
“First, a reminder: this is the Northern Wildwood. Although we carefully selected this location and cleared the surrounding area, ensuring mostly low and intermediate Magic Beasts remain, there may still be some high-level Magic Beasts lurking. So be cautious. Everyone should have received their Magic Amulet before assembling, right? If things get dangerous, activate your amulet, and your mentors will rush to assist you as quickly as possible.”
“Next, the competition rules. Due to the risk involved, teams of up to five are allowed to cooperate and act together. Of course, you may also choose to go solo. The challenge is to hunt and kill Magic Beasts in the forest. For every beast you kill, place your Magic Amulet on its corpse. The amulet will automatically record the beast’s information. If you’re in a five-person team, the score will be split five ways, so how you distribute points is up to you.”
“The amulet will automatically score the Magic Beasts killed: one point for low-level, five points for intermediate, and twenty points for high-level Magic Beasts!”
“The team with the highest score will receive a reward, and the highest-scoring individual will receive the final reward—the ‘condition’ the Dean mentioned. So how you allocate points among your team is your own business.”
“That’s the rule. The assessment will last three days. After three days, no matter the results, everyone must return here for a tally. Anyone who fails to return on time will forfeit their qualification and have their results canceled. Now, you may consider whether to form teams or decide who you want to team up with…”
