There was still more than a whole day left, so Xisha wasn’t in a hurry at all.
She sat down beside Isadora.
“During the days I was locked underground, I kept thinking about the past. After all, besides memories, I had nothing else to do.”
“You know, just because you weren’t home that day, I ended up being locked up for one thousand two hundred years.”
Xisha’s head spun twelve times on her neck before stopping to stare at her.
“Sally, you’re really heartless.”
Isadora said nothing.
Not far away, the Hero Squad’s Dragon Hawk landed.
The girls ran nearby on foot, and when they saw this scene, they quickly stopped in their tracks.
Xisha saw them too, but just like with everyone else, as long as they didn’t bother her, she acted as if they didn’t exist.
Now that her good friend was in her grasp, she was in a great mood, even relaxed enough to chat.
“I don’t understand why so many people tried to stop me. I made a hundred wishes to the gods, and I still haven’t figured out how to use them. When the time comes, I’ll even ask everyone for their opinions.”
Hearing this, Ella couldn’t help but ask, “But you’ve already killed them. How are you going to get their opinions?”
The pink-haired girl spoke, and the surrounding girls were so frightened that Celes nearly drew her sword, and Leah grabbed her hand.
Don’t ask, it’s just for convenience in giving blessings.
“Of course, they’ll have to figure it out themselves. As those giving their opinions, they should be more proactive.”
Xisha patted her sleeve.
“If they’re not proactive, it means they have no opinions.”
“That’s amazing.”
Ella replied, her mind racing.
Judging from the battle at the Sealed Land, Xisha’s stats were extremely high, and more importantly, her attack methods were unpredictable, so she could likely ignore Celes’s front line and directly attack the others.
Could the most fragile member of the Hero Squad withstand at least one blow and hold on until Saintess could heal them with her blessing?
She didn’t know. It was too risky. She didn’t dare to bet.
“Alright, enough talk.”
Xisha lifted Isadora with one hand and started walking back.
“I need to take her back. She’s been running around outside for one thousand two hundred years. So naughty.”
“But it’s fine. When we get back, a hundred wishes are waiting for me.”
Ella felt someone bump her arm.
It was Celes, who gripped her sword hilt tightly.
The knight’s sword could be drawn at any moment, ready to coordinate with Zero, hidden in the shadows, for a sudden attack.
It would be a tough fight, but if they didn’t stop Xisha now, there’d be even less chance after the sacrifice was completed.
To fight or not to fight?
Ella felt immense pressure, torn on the issue—not afraid of revealing her strength or anything, but if a fight really broke out, she’d definitely draw the Necromantic Sword without hesitation.
At worst, she’d just say it was a type of Undead Magic—see, this one looks a bit different from the Demon King’s back then, right?
The problem was, could they win?
How many casualties would there be?
And once the battle started, as long as the other side killed Isadora first, the sacrifice would be complete.
She wasn’t acting yet, perhaps because she felt a sense of ceremony.
What to do?
Should they make a move or not?
At that moment, Ella glanced at Isadora’s state and saw that the elven elder’s eyes held not despair, but calm.
It wasn’t a forced calm, but true tranquility—as if she didn’t believe her own death would spell the end for the Elves.
As the only survivor from back then, why would she react like this? Did she have a backup plan?
“Don’t rush, Celes. None of you rush.”
Ella pulled the girl back a few steps, her mind racing through memories.
From the moment they arrived at the elves’ territory, every conversation with Isadora, every request she made, and possible hidden arrangements.
“Let’s go.”
She took a deep breath.
“Let’s go back first!”
Celes was surprised.
“But they…”
“Let’s go back first. I need to check something!”
She made a hand signal toward the nearby bushes, signaling Zero in the shadows to cancel the operation.
The Hero Squad returned to where they had landed, mounted their Dragon Hawks, and soared into the sky.
Before leaving the border, they could still see Xisha carrying Isadora single-handedly, hopping back.
“If she succeeds,”
Celes asked softly,
“will we, the elves, and the humans together, be able to face her?”
No one answered, because in the sky, the wind howled and nothing could be heard.
But she soon realized things might still change, because Ella hadn’t given up.
She wasn’t retreating in defeat, but moving with purpose.
After landing at the gathering place for idle personnel, the pink-haired girl leapt off the Dragon Hawk in one stride, then dashed toward the treehouse.
Lambart, Tereka, and the others hadn’t slept either. With such a big event today, they didn’t dare sleep, waiting for news from the girls.
“You’re back! How’s the situation?”
“Did Elder Isadora escape?”
The crowd came forward, but Ella didn’t stop, running ahead, so they turned to look at Celes and the others.
Before the girl could speak, a joyful little voice called out.
“Found it! I was right!”
Too excited, she pinched herself unconsciously.
Ella ran over, holding up two pages from the Prophecy.
“Look, the story says the gods required the sacrifice of all villagers. And we all know that on the day she poisoned them, Isadora wasn’t home and escaped, so one person was left out. But that was back then—over a thousand years have passed, and there’s something different.”
“What’s different?”
Celes didn’t understand what she meant.
Ella cleared her throat and looked at Miss Leah.
“Miss Leah, may I ask, what’s the key to household registration?”
Household registration?
Why ask her this question?
Leah froze, then suddenly understood, her pretty face turning red.
“Y-y-y-you listen to me! That’s not what I meant! I don’t look down on non-local registrations! I said that back then because… because we just met and weren’t familiar, so I had to get to know you better before…”
“You need to calm down.”
Ella originally wanted to use the question as a hint, but since it was misunderstood, she had no choice but to explain.
“There are two key points. First, place of birth. Second, kinship.”
“In other words, as long as during these years, Isadora secretly went to the ruins of the Sealed Land and gave birth to a child herself, what do you think would happen?”
Celes’s mind buzzed.
“So, Xisha actually needs to kill two people, not just one?”
“Uh-huh. Elder Isadora made only one request of us, and it was to help protect a few children of the Envoy Group.”
Ella turned around to look at the five stunned young elves.
“Which of you are orphans or from single-parent families?”
This string of words was truly a thunderbolt, leaving them all buzzing, unable to recover for a long time.
As for family situations, the first to come to her senses was Tereka.
“Most of us are. Among the elves, there’s a saying—the forest nurtures every elf.”
