Pei Xingyan had a strange feeling. Clearly, he hadn’t done anything wrong, yet now he felt like a scoundrel caught red-handed.
Why was Shen Zhishu here in the classroom? This wasn’t like middle school where teachers could casually come and go for some kind of exchange between classes.
“Class, may I have a few minutes of your time? We’ll hold a brief class meeting to go over some key points recently conveyed by the school about anti-fraud measures…”
Shen Zhishu stood on the podium, droning on like a real teacher.
Pei Xingyan exhaled in relief and leaned on his desk, playing with his pen.
He had been worried that Shen Zhishu came looking specifically for him…
“Hmph,” the thought flashed across his mind, and even he felt a bit narcissistic. He didn’t think he had any relationship with Shen Zhishu beyond a simple acquaintance.
Even though those flashbacks of familiarity felt strange, Pei Xingyan dismissed them as illusions. If he always took a vague feeling for the truth, he might end up making some serious mistake.
“Baby…” Su Shanshan rested her chin on the desk as well, seizing the chance to snuggle closer.
She completely threw away the promise she’d made about avoiding close contact—actually, she had deliberately ignored that detail since their last meeting—and now she was going for full-on facial closeness.
She was overjoyed, exhaling softly into Pei Xingyan’s ear, “Baby…”
Su Shanshan didn’t say anything else, only kept calling “baby baby” over and over. The more she said it, the happier she got, rolling on the floor and kicking her feet wildly.
Thankfully, she was wearing a JK uniform today, and her shoes had soft soles. Otherwise, the noise would definitely have drawn the glare of the unsmiling Teacher Shen in the front row.
Pei Xingyan didn’t know what had upset Shen Zhishu, but he could tell she was unhappy. He definitely didn’t want to experience those eyes again—the ones that resembled Ye Ziwei’s when she was about to kill.
He hurried to press down on Su Shanshan’s leg but carefully avoided her skirt, which fluttered up from the movement. His hand landed on the smooth, delicate skin of her thigh, and he even felt a soft piece of fabric—he could guess exactly what that was.
Su Shanshan’s pupils trembled, and she instantly calmed down, her two long, straight legs quietly pressing against the chair, not daring to move.
“Baby…” Her voice trembled, and her hand tugged on the corner of Pei Xingyan’s shirt, “Not here… Someone… might see us…”
Pei Xingyan felt his brain buzz loudly. Using his last shred of reason, he withdrew his hand and smiled gently at the girl before burying his head in his arm.
He felt his life was gradually sliding toward that of a criminal. If things kept going like this, Su Shanshan definitely wouldn’t let him off easily.
Luckily, she still considered herself his “girlfriend.” Otherwise, if she screamed just once, he’d be spending the afternoon “having tea” at the police station, and might even end up sharing a cell with his father after being sentenced.
He glanced sideways and saw Su Shanshan had also become subdued, mirroring his posture with her head buried in her own arm.
After all, she was a girl. It was only natural to feel shy after such an incident…
Thinking this, Pei Xingyan breathed a sigh of relief. At least she wasn’t so wild as to actually want to do that kind of thing with him, and her sense of shame was still somewhat normal.
Normal was good—there was still hope.
He already had too many “abnormal” girls around him. If there were any more, he’d—
“Pei Xingyan.”
A cold female voice echoed above his head, laced with killing intent.
Pei Xingyan smiled with a sense of resignation and thought, “Well, I’m done for now.”
He slowly lifted his head and met Shen Zhishu’s unfriendly gaze dead-on.
The aloof professor was even colder now, her stare almost freezing him. Pei Xingyan had no idea how he’d managed to draw such bad luck from this formidable woman.
He could only smile ingratiatingly and slowly stand up to show respect.
“Hello, Teacher.”
“Not hello,” Shen Zhishu said coldly, clearly three times more annoyed now. “Why aren’t you paying attention to what I’m saying?”
Pei Xingyan gritted his teeth silently. He could understand the teacher being angry because he wasn’t listening, but why did he vaguely sense a hint of grievance in her tone?
What was there to be upset about?
She had been acting as a substitute tutor for so long—didn’t she know how annoying class meetings were? Why not just half-heartedly get through it?
Besides, with her lofty scholar title and professor status, wasn’t she supposed to be busy with research, trying to get more funding? What was the point of coming here to play house with a bunch of undergrads?
But even so, he couldn’t just spill all his thoughts. So he nodded and kowtowed repeatedly, apologizing profusely.
To his surprise, Shen Zhishu, who looked like she bore a great grudge, suddenly lost control of her mouth and gave him a silent smile.
Her smile was very sweet, making one wonder if her bitter expression earlier was all just an act.
Shen Zhishu waved her hand, signaling to drop the matter. She then turned back to the class, said goodbye to the students, and handed the lesson back to the teacher.
Pei Xingyan sat down, completely dazed. He was more and more confused by this teacher.
“Wait.” Before his heart could settle, Shen Zhishu launched a surprise attack.
She came over to Pei Xingyan’s side, leaning forward to look at the girl next to him.
“Do we have someone like this in our class?” Shen Zhishu asked with a smile. “She looks really unfamiliar.”
Pei Xingyan’s finely tuned detection radar went off like crazy. Her smile was not happy or kind at all—she was definitely trying to mask a cruel expression behind it.
He waved his hand and directly pushed Shen Zhishu aside. “You must be mistaken. This is a student from our class… Uh… I actually have something to ask you. Could we step outside for a moment?”
Shen Zhishu didn’t resist and let him hold her shoulder, but her eyes never left Su Shanshan’s figure, growing more puzzled and unfriendly.
In the end, she still followed Pei Xingyan outside.
After all the twists and turns, Pei Xingyan thought he should start hanging a yellow calendar by his bedside and check it before going out—otherwise, his luck was just too bad!
He really couldn’t handle this!
Pei Xingyan exhaled slowly and, under the watchful eyes of the entire class and the subject teacher, pushed Shen Zhishu step by step forward. Luckily, she didn’t flare up again and was relatively compliant.
Just as they reached the door and he thought everything was safe, a clear, sweet voice shattered all his hope.
“Baby! Where are you going?”
Su Shanshan’s voice was quiet, almost a whisper. But the classroom was so silent it was terrifying—the audience watching the scene had even held their breath. Not a single sound was missed; even the drop of a pin could be heard clearly.
Pei Xingyan turned to look. Su Shanshan’s face was full of panic as she stood and rushed toward him.
He stiffened and turned back. Shen Zhishu’s eyebrows immediately sharpened. Without a word, she grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the classroom.
