When she came up to greet him, Bo Jiangxin was already bracing himself for his ears to be worn out by chatter.
But no, throughout their conversation, he could only hear the words she spoke aloud. As soon as she stopped talking, there was nothing.
Bo Jiangxin quickly realized—the Biological Link between him and Xiang Di had disappeared.
Bo Jiangxin wasn’t sure what he was thinking. After a long moment with no response from him, Xiang Di mustered up her courage, reaching out to gently pat his shoulder.
“Bo Jiangxin?”
Bo Jiangxin lowered his eyes, looking at her hand resting lightly on his shoulder.
The back of her hand was pale, her fingers slender, the nails tiny and tinted a faint pink.
Her hand was warm; even through his clothes, he could feel the temperature, her presence undeniable.
Xiang Di noticed his gaze on her hand. Thinking he didn’t like being touched without warning, she quickly withdrew her hand.
Bo Jiangxin looked away, letting out a quiet “mm,” and continued walking forward.
What does that even mean? Xiang Di caught up to him, asking again.
Bo Jiangxin asked, “Do you really want to change seats?”
Of course not—what a question! But wasn’t it up to him? Since he’d brought it up, she couldn’t shamelessly cling to him, insisting on staying his deskmate.
Xiang Di mused, “Actually, as long as I switch seats with the Class Monitor, or you switch with Qian Qian, everything would work out—everyone wins, hehe.”
That way, she could be deskmates with Qian Qian, and Bo Jiangxin would still be nearby.
To sit with her best friend, and have the boy she liked right behind her—who else’s final year of high school could be so blessed? Oh right, hers.
Thinking of this, her tone grew expectant: “What do you think?”
Bo Jiangxin was ranked first, and Chen Laoshi liked him best. If he thought the seat change was fine, Chen Laoshi would surely agree.
Bo Jiangxin frowned slightly, searching her face for any sign of fake cheerfulness—but there was none.
From her eyes to her smile, Xiang Di was clearly eager to be separated, reuniting with her best friend.
He was the one who’d brought up the seat change last week, yet now, she was the most eager to make it happen.
Just last week, after walking her home, she’d heard about the seat change and had sung heartbreak ballads on the bus as if he’d committed an unforgivable sin.
Now, after just one day off, her attitude had completely flipped.
Bo Jiangxin let out a short, cold laugh.
That night she’d confessed as if her love was as deep as the ocean, swearing a lifetime’s devotion. Yet in the end, it was all just so.
The sense of disappointment was inevitable.
She seemed so quick to pick things up and set them down, as if a moment ago she’d loved him desperately, and the next moment couldn’t remember who he was.
Now Xiang Di was looking up at him, her face expectant, the corners of her mouth pressed upward in hope, waiting for his nod.
The happier she looked, the sharper that contrast felt in Bo Jiangxin’s eyes.
His voice chilled: “Not interested.”
Xiang Di’s hopeful gaze froze in awkwardness—she hadn’t expected him to shoot her down so bluntly.
“Uh, then…who do you want as your deskmate?” she asked, still polite. “As long as I switch with them, it’s fine, right?”
Bo Jiangxin said, “I don’t want anyone.”
Truly, he wanted no one—unless that person was mute from mouth to heart, unable to bother him.
“No deskmate? You want to sit alone?” Xiang Di mused in surprise.
“Ah, do you want the VIP Seat next to the lectern?”
That spot was usually reserved for the class’s most restless student—someone too talkative and fidgety to have a deskmate, so the Teacher just sat them up front.
Currently, Wang Sicheng occupied that seat.
Apart from Wang Sicheng himself, everyone else—including the teachers—agreed it suited him perfectly.
If Wang Sicheng found out Bo Jiangxin wanted that seat, he’d probably die of joy.
Xiang Di hesitated: “But I don’t think that seat suits you…”
From ancient times to now, when has a top student ever sat there?
“What do you think?” Bo Jiangxin scoffed, eyes down. “If you think it’s right, then it must be right?”
His tone was cold—not politely distant, but outright rude, even a bit aggressive. Xiang Di was so taken aback she didn’t dare speak.
She regretted it a bit, realizing she might’ve gotten carried away—thinking that after just one day as his deskmate, and adding him as a WeChat friend, she could meddle in his affairs.
Bo Jiangxin had always been someone with strong boundaries—she should remember that.
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Afraid of offending him again, Xiang Di murmured, “If you think it’s fine, then it’s fine…”
She dared not speak to him further. Bo Jiangxin lowered his gaze, glancing sidelong at her bowed head and lips pursed in grievance.
He knew his tone hadn’t been good—she’d meant well, but he hadn’t appreciated it.
He felt a bit guilty. He’d spent every day wishing the link would disappear, and now that it had…what was he so bothered about?
People walked in small groups, lively chatter all around.
The two of them, however, said nothing as they walked in silence all the way to the Classroom.
Bo Jiangxin entered first, followed by Xiang Di.
Ye Minjia, who’d arrived earlier, immediately widened his eyes in alarm and nudged Liang Qianqian, who was memorizing English words.
They both sat down. Ye Minjia leaned forward, putting on an innocent act. “Hey, how come you two arrived at the Classroom together today?”
Bo Jiangxin ignored him, so Xiang Di explained, “We just happened to meet on the way.”
Liang Qianqian asked, “Just happened to?”
Xiang Di blinked. “What else?”
Liang Qianqian shot Ye Minjia a look, and Ye Minjia replied with a “leave it to me” glance.
These two were certainly stubborn.
There was only one path from the School Gate to the Teaching Building, and everyone arrived at about the same time, so running into each other was likely.
Bo Jiangxin had met others before, but entering the Classroom together? That was suspicious.
That meant they’d walked the whole way together—surely they’d have talked? But Bo Jiangxin was the type who, if he didn’t speak first, even an immortal would find it hard to start a conversation.
If you didn’t have the nerve to force your way in, you’d barely get a word from him.
Ye Minjia sighed at Bo Jiangxin: “Bro, you’ve changed. Don’t you usually skip the Flag-raising Ceremony every Monday and only show up afterward? What’s up? Why the sudden transformation—arriving early and not skipping the Flag-raising Ceremony today?”
As he spoke, he threw a not-so-casual glance at Xiang Di.
But Bo Jiangxin’s face didn’t flicker. He replied blandly, “If you hate seeing me so much, I’ll leave right now?”
Ye Minjia’s expression froze. What’s with this guy? When did he say he didn’t want to see him?
He, the mighty Class Monitor, wasn’t about to indulge Bo Jiangxin. Raising an eyebrow, he slapped Bo Jiangxin’s back.
“What’s with the attitude? Did you eat gunpowder or something?”
[Did I offend him recently? Or did he find out I secretly played on his King of Glory Account Sunday and lost him a bunch of stars?]
Bo Jiangxin:
This damn noob. One of these days, he was going to change the password.
But now wasn’t the time to settle with Ye Minjia. As Ye Minjia drew his hand back, Bo Jiangxin suddenly grabbed his wrist.
Ye Minjia: “What are you doing?!”
Bo Jiangxin didn’t let go, just held onto his wrist. Ye Minjia tried to pull away, but couldn’t.
“What’s up? Trying to show off your manly strength?”
Ye Minjia said. “If you want to prove yourself, arm wrestle me! What’s the point of just holding on?”
Bo Jiangxin frowned, warning in a low voice: “Don’t move.”
With no other experimental subjects, he could only use Ye Minjia to check.
Ye Minjia was even more baffled, no idea what weird game Bo Jiangxin was up to.
Bo Jiangxin just kept holding his wrist, offering no explanation.
Nearby, Xiang Di and Liang Qianqian had no idea what the boys were doing. Xiang Di whispered, “What are they doing?”
Liang Qianqian wasn’t sure either:
“…Checking his pulse? In a TCM way?”
But that didn’t look like the right posture for pulse-checking.
Liang Qianqian was confused. Just now Ye Minjia had been probing into Xiang Di and Bo Jiangxin’s relationship, and now suddenly he was the one tangled up with Bo Jiangxin.
It was Monday, and since it wasn’t raining outside, as per routine, there was to be a Flag-raising Ceremony.
Someone had just come back from the School Office and stood at the Classroom door, announcing: “The Class Teacher’s got something to do; let’s go down to the Playground and line up first.”
