“She’s actually completely healed, and so fast?”
Watching as the deep gash she’d just made on Luo Shuangyue’s arm vanished within seconds, Jiu Ye let out a cry of surprise.
Just moments ago, she’d followed Luo Shuangyue’s request and slashed her sharp claw across Luo Shuangyue’s arm, hard enough to lay the flesh open.
But such a deep wound disappeared the instant Luo Shuangyue brushed it with her finger.
This was practically a miracle!
“This is a power I just acquired a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, the cost is far too high. Small wounds like this are fine, but something like Rebirth of Severed Limbs would take several attempts to fully recover.”
Luo Shuangyue lifted her hand.
A swirling, turbid stream of black energy appeared in her palm—this was the Nightmare Energy she’d managed to imitate.
If only she had completely devoured Mo Four that night, she might have been able to simulate Nightmare Energy closer to the real thing, with less cost.
As for reaching the level of Vast Four, who could regrow limbs like it was nothing, Luo Shuangyue figured she’d need to devour that General-level Magical Creature herself to pull that off.
But that was just wishful thinking.
Unless a Royal-Class Magic Beast tripped over a stone and died right in front of her, Luo Shuangyue couldn’t imagine how she’d get a chance to eat one.
After all, Xinghai City was packed with Magical Girls searching day and night for any sign of Royal-Class Magic Beasts.
Under their noses, how could she possibly find an opportunity to devour one?
She certainly couldn’t ask the Magical Girls to leave her the whole corpse, right?
“But that Mo One still seems to be alive. Should I go look—” Luo Shuangyue hadn’t even finished her thought when a shrill alarm rang out in the training room, red lights flashing in all directions.
This was the alert for a Demon appearing.
“A Demon’s appeared? We… Wait, why are we rushing?” Out of habit, Luo Shuangyue nearly grabbed Jiu Ye to head straight to the Demon’s location, just in case the Magical Girls couldn’t handle it and she had to step in.
But she quickly remembered—things weren’t like before.
Xinghai City didn’t just have Xia Mo and those three fledglings anymore.
There were now more than a dozen Magical Girls here, including a top-level powerhouse like Dragonyao. There was nothing for her to worry about.
Sauntering into the Surveillance Room, Luo Shuangyue was surprised to see that this Demon attack was truly unusual.
Alerts were popping up in several places at once—and among them, three were King-class Magic Beasts.
This wasn’t normal. So many Demons appearing at the same time—it definitely wasn’t a natural occurrence!
“Is this the doing of that Royal-Class Magic Beast?” Luo Shuangyue wondered to herself.
Using a swarm of low-level Demons to draw the Magical Girls’ attention, then making its escape—the plan was simple, but undeniably effective.
Magical Girls couldn’t just ignore Demons, and while they were busy fighting, the Royal-Class Magic Beast’s chance of escape would skyrocket.
“Lord Dark Moth, what should we do?” Jiu Ye looked anxiously at the map, where a sea of red dots had appeared.
“Don’t worry. There are a lot of red dots, but most are General-level Magical Creatures. With the current First Bloom-Class Magical Girls in Xinghai City, they’ll be blasted to pieces with one shot. The three King-class might be a bit trickier, but they’re nothing to be overly concerned about.”
Luo Shuangyue was completely at ease. The Magic Department’s forces in Xinghai City were so strong, these Demons wouldn’t be able to stir up any real trouble.
“I’m going out to take a look. You all stay here in the base and don’t leave.”
With that, Luo Shuangyue strode out of the Surveillance Room.
Jiu Ye and the others weren’t suited to go out, but she was different. She could go and join the fun—the Magical Girls wouldn’t attack her anyway.
No sooner had she flown out of the Eternal Night Base than Luo Shuangyue noticed a jet-black butterfly trailing her like a ghost.
A chill crept up her spine—there was something seriously wrong about this thing.
Without hesitation, she decided to strike first. Whatever it was, she’d better slash it now, since it didn’t look like anything good.
It was probably part of some Demon.
The black butterfly didn’t seem to realize Luo Shuangyue had noticed it, following behind her at a measured pace.
But when Luo Shuangyue’s body scattered into flitting black-purple butterflies, the black butterfly froze in place, as if stunned.
Taking advantage of the moment, Luo Shuangyue lunged with her scythe and ambushed the butterfly from behind, cleaving it in two.
Even sliced in half, the black butterfly didn’t vanish.
Both halves writhed, black filaments extending from the torn edges, trying to knit themselves back together.
The grotesque scene made Luo Shuangyue’s skin crawl. She quickly summoned her own Butterflies, tearing the bisected butterfly to shreds and completely shattering any chance of Resurrection.
“This aura… it’s even purer than that cyborg’s?” As the Butterflies passed the information back to her, Luo Shuangyue realized that the black butterfly’s origins weren’t ordinary.
The Magic Power composing it definitely came directly from the Royal-Class Magic Beast, not some secondhand stuff like with the cyborgs.
“But this Magic Power is much harder to absorb than the cyborg’s.” Feeling the new Magic Power surge in her body, Luo Shuangyue’s expression turned odd.
Magic Power from a Royal-Class Magic Beast was top-notch nourishment for her, but even nourishment could be overdone—it wouldn’t digest well if she gorged herself.
“But why did this butterfly appear here? Could it be that the Royal-Class Magic Beast has its eye on me?” Luo Shuangyue scratched her head, unable to make sense of it.
Why would the Royal-Class Magic Beast target her? It couldn’t possibly care that much about its minions, out for revenge for one of its subordinates, right?
And since Xia Mo and the others were from the Magic Department and hard to deal with, it came for her instead.
That actually sounded pretty plausible… Luo Shuangyue secretly felt relieved.
If the Royal-Class Magic Beast had set its sights on Xia Mo or Shuang Xing instead, things would be much more troublesome.
As for what she’d do if the Royal-Class Magic Beast really came knocking—Luo Shuangyue wasn’t fazed in the slightest.
As long as the beast showed up when there was no one else watching, she’d show it what the world’s strongest Magical Girl could do.
White Night’s power wasn’t just for show.
Even a grievously wounded Royal-Class Magic Beast would be lucky to last a single minute before her might.
So cautious… looks like she won’t be easy to handle.
After sending out several avatars in an attempt to tempt Lord Dark Moth, only for them to be ruthlessly destroyed each time, the Royal-Class Magic Beast realized her plan was too naive.
Lord Dark Moth wasn’t greedy—when faced with Magic Power she couldn’t digest, she’d rather abandon it than force it down.
After eating the first butterfly and finding she couldn’t absorb its powerful Magic Power, Lord Dark Moth made no attempt to absorb similar things that appeared afterward.
Realizing this, the Royal-Class Magic Beast immediately abandoned her previous plan. If subtlety wouldn’t work, she’d use force.
A First Bloom-Class Magical Girl wouldn’t take much effort to subdue.
And if she could shift her consciousness into Lord Dark Moth’s body, she could fake her own death through Lord Dark Moth’s hands.
With this in mind, the Royal-Class Magic Beast rose to her feet, her body seeming to melt away, dissolving into the darkness.
Now, while the Magical Girls’ attention was diverted, she had to act quickly.
There wasn’t much time—she had to transfer her consciousness before the chaos ended!
“The third one… she really is after me.” Staring at the beastly monster she’d just chopped into pieces, Luo Shuangyue muttered to herself.
There was no doubt—the Royal-Class Magic Beast’s target was her. But why send these weaklings to test her?
Was it trying to gauge her combat abilities?
If that was the case, Luo Shuangyue had to hand it to this Magic Beast. A Royal-Class coming after a First Bloom like her and still being so cautious—how shameless.
Why not just fly over and crush me outright? What’s with all this trickery?
Just as this thought flashed through Luo Shuangyue’s mind, goosebumps prickled across her skin.
A nameless terror suddenly welled up inside her. Everything around her felt thick and sticky—even breathing became difficult.
The skyscrapers morphed into a forest of bloody flesh. The sun and clouds twisted, transforming into a gigantic Blood Flesh Flower looming in the sky.
A black-clad girl had appeared below the monstrous flower—when or how, Luo Shuangyue couldn’t tell—staring at her with cold, indifferent eyes.
Was this the literal meaning of “speak of the devil and he appears”? Luo Shuangyue took a deep breath and squeezed her eyes shut, frantically repeating to herself that this was all an illusion.
