“You see, I told you.” Bai Xiaonuo couldn’t help but sigh, “There are still more good people in this world.”
Sitting on the soft big bed, gazing at the balcony nearby that stretched out endlessly, the girl was already eager to start her new life in this place.
Big house, big villa, big bed, big corridor, big rooms, big swimming pool, and a big beautiful girl—herself… a wonderful life was about to begin.
“But Xiaonuo,” the Ancestor spoke up, “that girl just now also said she wanted your mugwort.”
Bai Xiaonuo waved her hand dismissively. “Kids say silly things sometimes. Her sister already said not to pay it any mind.”
“But… she seemed pretty serious about it.”
“Oh, really no big deal, just empty talk. We say things like that all the time online—telling someone to ‘go to the supermarket’ or whatnot.”
The Ancestor thought about it carefully and realized that was indeed true.
Meanwhile, at the door, the sisters were waiting for the second tenant—a very pretty, cold, black-haired girl with long straight hair, carrying a sword on her back.
The elder sister was slightly wary but quickly noticed the sword didn’t feel real; it lacked the sharp, metallic aura of a genuine blade.
The younger sister didn’t care and, just like when they greeted Bai Xiaonuo, approached with a blunt question: “Do you have money to pay rent?”
“Yes.” The black-haired sword girl replied softly.
“Ah, um,” the younger sister was momentarily stunned. “Our rent… is quite expensive.”
The girl calmly took out a bank card. “I can pay now. If card swiping isn’t possible, online payment works too.”
“……”
They really had someone who could pay.
The sisters’ enthusiasm immediately waned.
But the elder sister kept a gentle smile and said, “Another tenant just arrived. Please rest a while first. Dinner will be served soon.”
The girl shook her head.
“Thank you, but I already ate.”
Then she walked inside, carrying her bag and sword.
The sisters stood at the door, exchanging glances.
“Someone actually pays such high rent—who would’ve thought,” the elder sister sighed, “Girls these days really live too well.”
The younger sister put her hands on her hips. “At least there’s one. If they’re healthy, one is enough.”
With such a figure, the body must be in good condition too.
“Hmm… you go call her for dinner.”
…………
“Let me tell you, you don’t understand us young people. If we keep saying words like ‘mugwort’, ‘supermarket’, or ‘kill’ to each other every day, it means we get along easily and have a good relationship.”
The Ancestor was stunned by Bai Xiaonuo’s explanation. “So you mean, when she said she wanted you to have mugwort, it was a friendly gesture?”
“Exactly,” Bai Xiaonuo waved her hand. “Very friendly.”
Just then, the landlord’s younger sister’s voice came from outside: “Nuo Nuo, come out for dinner.”
“Okay, I’m coming,” Bai Xiaonuo replied, then said to the Ancestor, “See? Isn’t that friendly? They’re even calling me for dinner.”
The dining room was right next to the living room.
The landlord sisters had already placed dishes on the table and sat down on either side.
With only the middle chair left, Bai Xiaonuo hesitated for a moment before settling down.
She had intended to be modest as a newcomer, but didn’t expect the landlord to be so warm and enthusiastic—hard to refuse such kindness.
“I hope the food suits your taste,” the elder landlord introduced herself, “I’m Yulinglong, and my sister… you can just call her Xiaoyu.”
Bai Xiaonuo was momentarily stunned but smiled politely. “Your names are quite beautiful, they make one think of… lovely things.”
Like a certain smooth skin.
After a brief silence, she suddenly recalled something and hurriedly added, “I’m Bai Xiaonuo. I just started my freshman year.”
“I see, a university student,” Yulinglong said meaningfully, then shifted tone, “Xiaonuo, are you from out of town? Is it hard being away from your family?”
Bai Xiaonuo shook her head. “I’m local. As for family, I lost them when I was very young.”
“What!” Xiaoyu could hardly hide the joy on her face, “So you’re all alone…”
Yulinglong immediately pressed her sister down and stuffed a chicken drumstick into her mouth to silence her, then looked at Bai Xiaonuo with sympathy. “Sorry for bringing up something painful.”
“It’s fine, I haven’t cared for a long time.” Bai Xiaonuo waved her hand.
“Hmm, how about this? To show our apology and to welcome you,” Yulinglong said softly, “We’ll throw a welcome feast for you in a couple of days—this weekend.”
So friendly?
Even Bai Xiaonuo felt a bit embarrassed. “Thank you, but, well, I don’t have money for rent yet. I saw the rental notice…”
“Let’s talk about that after the welcome feast. We’re not in a rush. The room will just stay empty if not rented.”
“…Alright then.”
She couldn’t help but sigh again.
There really were more good people in the world.
“By the way, what about the other tenant?” Bai Xiaonuo suddenly remembered.
“She already ate, so she didn’t come,” Yulinglong said. “She seems busy with her own matters, so we didn’t disturb her.”
Xiaoyu finally finished the chicken drumstick and said, “She paid all the rent upfront and is very cold and distant—like ‘don’t come near’ kind of vibe.”
Bai Xiaonuo nodded silently. That made sense; not every girl was as cheerful and approachable as herself.
After finishing the meal, the girl said “Thanks for the meal,” then eagerly went to see her room.
After she left, the landlord sisters put down their chopsticks and exchanged a look.
“Sis, she’s a perfect choice,” Xiaoyu said excitedly, “No family, no one will look for her, and she won’t attract social attention.”
Yulinglong rarely agreed with her sister but did this time, then scolded her: “You need to be more careful from now on. Don’t let your emotions show on your face so clearly.”
Hearing Bai Xiaonuo was an orphan had almost made Xiaoyu laugh out loud—luckily Yulinglong was quick and had a chicken drumstick to stuff in her mouth.
The little fox just loves eating that.
“Got it,” Xiaoyu stuck out her tongue. “I just got too excited and couldn’t help it.”
“Just remember to keep it in check next time,” Yulinglong said, lowering her voice. “Forget about the other tenant for now. We can’t tell what’s up with her, better to be cautious.”
Though the sword wasn’t metal and seemed harmless, Yulinglong still felt the girl was no ordinary person.
“Mm-hmm.”
…………
Bai Xiaonuo collapsed onto her soft new bed, patting her full stomach, feeling how blissful life was.
“You ate so much again—when you meet good food, you just binge!”
Because of the way she lay, the Ancestor’s jade pendant slipped out from her collar. “Aren’t you afraid of gaining weight?”
“Nope, not afraid at all,” Bai Xiaonuo said with conviction. “I’ve transformed for so long, and any weight gain is all in my chest—you know that.”
“I’m afraid you’ll have no clothes to wear later!” the Ancestor said. “You pop buttons on shirts, tear seams, and end up with nothing to wear but low-cut and open tops!”
“…Ahem, well, um, my roommate is pretty mysterious,” Bai Xiaonuo blushed slightly and quietly changed the subject, “She seems to live right next door to me.”
