“You’re really going to live out there?”
Bai Rou Rou returned to the dormitory and immediately saw Gong Nanxue packing her luggage.
“Of course—what’s wrong with your mouth?”
Gong Nanxue looked up and noticed Bai Rou Rou’s bitten and broken lip corner, which stood out sharply against her rosy lips.
“I accidentally bit it while eating.”
Can you bite so hard while eating that you break such a big piece?
Gong Nanxue felt puzzled but still replied, “Then you really were careless.”
Watching Gong Nanxue continue packing with her head down, Bai Rou Rou hesitated before finally asking, “Nan Jie, have you found a place to live?”
“I went to look this morning, and I’ve already rented one.”
Gong Nanxue glanced at Bai Rou Rou’s thin figure and felt a pang of guilt in her heart.
It was only after talking with Wang Shanshan and the others in the morning that she realized Bai Rou Rou had truly helped her a lot, and her own later inspection confirmed Bai Rou Rou really hadn’t made any moves on her.
Yet, she had pinched Bai Rou Rou after she got up…
For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to say “sorry.”
“Nan Jie, why don’t you live on campus? Is it because of me?”
The girl looked pitiful: “I’ll listen to you from now on, I can keep my distance, please don’t leave, okay?”
“It’s not because of you.”
Gong Nanxue avoided the girl’s gaze, instinctively looking away, and gave a casual excuse, “I just can’t get used to the school food, so I’m renting outside.”
“Okay!”
Upon hearing this, the girl’s soft eyes brightened a little, and she tentatively asked, “Then where are you living, Nan Jie?”
“It’s on Nanfeng Street in Fengze…”
Gong Nanxue hesitated but, out of guilt, still said it.
“That’s perfect!”
The girl suddenly perked up, taking a few quick steps to stand in front of Gong Nanxue.
“I’m really good at cooking, Nan Jie, I’ll cook for you, okay?”
Before Gong Nanxue could respond, the girl continued, “And sometimes I have to go to a tutoring center for classes. Your place isn’t far from the center. Let’s rent together, please.”
Gong Nanxue naturally didn’t want to.
It wasn’t that she disliked Bai Rou Rou.
On the contrary, she even liked her—the scent she carried, her unusually pure and clear doe eyes.
“Please, okay?”
Seeing that Gong Nanxue remained silent, Bai Rou Rou’s heart leapt with hope—was this her chance?
Now that Cai Jinger definitely wouldn’t dare bully her anymore, she had to seize this opportunity to get through the suffering tasks quickly.
Even if Cai Jinger found out and bullied her, the hidden suffering progress would increase.
Without thinking, she boldly hugged Gong Nanxue’s arm, her voice soft and sweet: “I’ll pay half the rent, and I’ll cook for you too. Nan Jie, please let me rent with you!”
The air seemed filled with a fresh, unique fragrance—delicate and peaceful, as if walking through a sea of flowers.
With every breath, this strange scent filled the entire chest.
Gong Nanxue snapped back to reality, feeling the warmth pressed against her.
She looked down and met the girl’s exceptionally clear, soft eyes.
The doe-like eyes were as clear as autumn water, their slightly downward corners making them look especially innocent and well-behaved.
So beautiful.
Gong Nanxue was momentarily entranced by those eyes.
“Nan Jie, please? If you don’t believe my cooking is good, I can make you a meal once. If you don’t like it, I promise not to bother you again.”
The girl’s gentle voice brought Gong Nanxue back to attention.
“Well, I’ll give you one chance then.”
Soft.
“Yay!”
The girl’s face lit up with joy, excitedly reaching out to help Gong Nanxue carry her luggage.
She had never been good at living with others, but these past few days in the dorm with Bai Rou Rou had made her realize she wasn’t averse to her at all.
“At worst, if Bai Rou Rou’s cooking isn’t good, I’ll just say it isn’t.”
Gong Nanxue thought to herself.
Seeing the girl so happy, she felt she couldn’t be too harsh.
“Nan Jie, your place is so big!”
Following Gong Nanxue into the apartment, Bai Rou Rou was slightly shocked.
She never expected that Gong Nanxue had rented a small flat that looked to be at least one hundred square meters!
“What, can’t afford the rent?”
Gong Nanxue raised an eyebrow and smiled, “If you can’t afford it, then don’t share rent.”
Even Gong Nanxue herself didn’t quite know how to treat this girl who liked her so much.
So she decided to leave the choice to Bai Rou Rou; if she could handle it, she wouldn’t stop her from getting close.
“How much is the rent?”
Bai Rou Rou asked cautiously.
“Four thousand a month.”
Gong Nanxue put down her backpack, tiredly sitting on the sofa.
She said casually, “It’s fully furnished, just bring your bags and move in. According to our agreement, you pay two thousand.”
What?
Hearing the amount, Bai Rou Rou nearly bit her own tongue.
Her monthly salary was only four thousand; half would go to rent, and that didn’t even include utilities!
“No, no problem!”
Not just two thousand, even three or four thousand, she would grit her teeth and stay.
She was worried about how to complete those tasks like making breakfast and lunch herself—this chance couldn’t be missed.
At worst, she could find some other part-time job.
“As long as I can share rent, I’ll stick it out for two months.”
Bai Rou Rou calculated the number of tasks in her head.
Two months was more than enough, and once done, she’d find an excuse to leave.
The hidden task progress was increasing fast—just being bullied by Cai Jinger once boosted it by five points.
The entire process of completing the suffering tasks was crystal clear, and Bai Rou Rou felt energized.
Gong Nanxue, of course, didn’t know what Bai Rou Rou was thinking but noticed her expression grow inexplicably determined.
Is she trying to work more part-time jobs to make money?
Working so hard just to live together?
Gong Nanxue felt conflicted—putting in so much effort just to live together, yet she couldn’t even be with the person she liked… was it really necessary?
“Bai Rou Rou really is a love-struck fool.”
Strangely, having someone who loved her so deeply made Gong Nanxue feel a faint joy and happiness.
“Nan Jie, I’ll go buy groceries now. It’s getting late, I want to show off a bit!”
College students didn’t have much luggage, and after helping Gong Nanxue organize hers, Bai Rou Rou volunteered eagerly to cook.
“I’ve already seen the kitchen; I can use it now.”
She glanced at Gong Nanxue and awkwardly added, “But I might renovate it a bit.”
Gong Nanxue didn’t mind, “Do as you like.”
She had no particular appetite and didn’t know how to cook anyway.
