Chapter 10: What are the consequences of disturbing someone’s sleep?

“Jiejie, you’ve worked hard.”

Back at the Hospital, as soon as she stepped into the ward, her younger sister’s caring voice reached her ears.

All the exhaustion and embarrassment of the day melted away, and Lu Weizhu sat down.

“It’s not hard. The new job I found is pretty easy.”

Showing a smile to her younger sister lying in the hospital bed, Lu Weizhu sat down at the edge of the bed.

“Jiejie, the surgery is tomorrow, right?”

“…Mm. Weiyu, are you scared?”

When it came to talking about illness, Lu Weizhu’s tone grew heavy.

She gently patted Lu Weiyu’s head.

“I’m not scared.”

Lu Weiyu shook her head.

If anything, she wished she could die on the operating table. 

Even though her sister would be sad, at least she wouldn’t have to keep running around for her anymore. 

“That’s good. Everything will get better.”

Lu Weizhu held her sister’s hand.

After a moment of warmth, she ordered takeout for Lu Weiyu, then went to the public bathroom to take a shower.

Ever since her sister was diagnosed with cancer, Lu Weizhu hadn’t been home for a long time. 

Except for her part-time jobs, she’d stayed at the Hospital almost all the time.

After showering and returning to the ward to watch Lu Weiyu finish her dinner, Lu Weizhu finally lay down on the bed with peace of mind.

If nothing unexpected happened, she’d definitely face trouble tomorrow. 

Lu Weizhu needed to rest early and gather her strength.

“Weiyu, I might have to go to work tomorrow morning and only come back at noon. Will you be okay on your own?”

With the lights off, Lu Weizhu still couldn’t help worrying about the girl beside her before going to sleep.

“I’ll be fine, Jiejie. Rest, you’re really tired.”

Her gentle voice, carried by the night breeze blowing through the screen window, softly entered her ears. 

Lu Weiyu hugged Lu Weizhu from behind.

“Mm, you too, Weiyu. Get a good rest.”

Setting the alarm clock, Lu Weizhu quickly fell asleep.

She slept dreamlessly through the night. 

In the early morning, Lu Weizhu was woken up by the alarm clock.

The alarm clock wasn’t loud. 

Lu Weizhu had set it just loud enough to wake herself up. 

She wasn’t in good spirits and slept very lightly.

“OF…”

Taking a deep breath, Lu Weizhu gently moved her sister’s arm off her and got out of bed quietly.

“Do I really have to call her?”

Leaving the ward, Lu Weizhu held her phone in one hand and Ning Wan’s Business Card in the other.

She couldn’t imagine what kind of ways Ning Wan would come up with to torment her.

“…What are you afraid of, Lu Weizhu? What’s there to fear? Could anything be scarier than Weiyu’s surgery being delayed?”

She slapped herself.

The burning pain cleared her muddled mind and helped her make up her mind.

After a few rings, the call was automatically hung up.

“She must still be asleep.”

Lu Weizhu glanced at her phone. 

It was just past three o’clock.

She dialed again. 

As expected, the call was hung up again.

She kept repeating this, calling nearly ten times, until the phone was finally answered after a busy tone.

“Hello…who is this?”

The voice on the other end sounded lazy and impatient. 

It was obvious the owner of the voice was annoyed.

“This is Lu Weizhu.”

For once, she didn’t stutter or hesitate. 

Glancing back at the ward door, Lu Weizhu leaned against the corridor wall.

Her snow-white long hair fell before her eyes, stray strands landing on the screen, making her look a bit desolate.

“…Crazy.”

After a brief silence, Ning Wan, as expected, cursed. 

For some reason, Lu Weizhu thought of how gentle Ning Wan was toward Bai Lu yesterday afternoon…

People really do have another face in front of the ones they like.

Being cursed at made her a little unhappy, but there was still something to be grateful for—

Ning Wan hadn’t hung up.

“What is it? Speak.”

She sounded like she had just woken up, her words filled with strong resentment.

Lu Weizhu could already imagine what kind of look Ning Wan was giving her phone right now. 

She probably wanted to skin her alive.

“Miss Ning, could you send me the address?”

Lu Weizhu couldn’t remember where Ning Wan’s Villa was. 

The first time she went there, she’d been in a daze the whole car ride.

“Miss Ning? Miss Ning?”

Getting no answer for a long time, Lu Weizhu grew anxious. 

Time waits for no one.

She called twice more, but the result was Ning Wan hanging up on her.

“Is this…the address?”

Just as she was growing frantic, a text message notification sounded.

Lu Weizhu looked down. In her messages, Ning Wan had sent her the location.

“Phew…Good, I should make it in time…”

She’d wasted too much time on the phone. 

Lu Weizhu checked her phone—it was almost four o’clock.

She ran out of the Hospital, flagged down a Taxi on the street, and with so few people out in the early morning, the car sped along faster than she expected.

“Sir, thank you so much.”

After waiting anxiously to arrive, Lu Weizhu paid the fare and got out of the Taxi.

The streetlights were already off, the sky was gray and oppressive.

“…”

From a distance, she saw the tightly shut gate of the Villa and walked up to it.

She pressed the doorbell.

The bell rang, but no one answered.

Just as Lu Weizhu was about to take out her phone and call again, the Villa’s front gate opened.

Ning Wan appeared in her line of sight, her long hair a bit messy, wearing loose, light gray pajamas and blue slippers on her feet.

You could sense a lazy air from her. 

It was so dark Lu Weizhu couldn’t see her face clearly.

As Lu Weizhu looked at Ning Wan, Ning Wan was also sizing up Lu Weizhu.

Today, Lu Weizhu was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts. 

The pattern on her white shirt was a bit faded.

The clothes looked a bit too big on her, hanging loosely.

Not saying a word, woken up so early, Ning Wan was filled with resentment.

She turned and walked back inside.

“Sorry for disturbing you.”

Lu Weizhu apologized softly, following Ning Wan step by step.

Inside the Villa, the white lights were on, and Lu Weizhu could finally see Ning Wan’s face clearly.

Her expression was ugly, a trace of fatigue at the corners of her eyes, her lips drooping, her mood clearly terrible.

Ignoring Lu Weizhu behind her, Ning Wan sat down on the sofa.

“Um, Miss Ning.”

Lu Weizhu stood nervously beside the coffee table.

The humiliation she’d suffered here last time was still fresh in her mind. In front of Ning Wan, Lu Weizhu always felt inferior.

“…Uh, um, could I get the money first? My sister……”

Lu Weizhu swallowed hard. 

She finally managed to say something that was hard for her to speak, but just as the words came out, she was interrupted.

Ning Wan casually threw a fruit plate at Lu Weizhu.

“You woke me up so early just for this? Are you really that greedy for money?”

Ning Wan didn’t know about Lu Weizhu’s sister’s condition.

The glass fruit plate was heavy. 

After hitting Lu Weizhu’s lower abdomen, it fell to the floor and shattered.

The shards reflected the light from the chandelier, dazzling the eyes.

“DE…………”

A sharp pain shot through her lower abdomen. 

Lu Weizhu bent over, clutching her stomach, her vision blurring from the pain.

It hurt, but surprisingly, she didn’t hate Ning Wan that much. 

After all, she really was asking for a favor, and she really was being excessive.

If she had to hate, she could only hate herself for being so useless.

“I…I’m sorry…but, I really need the money.”

Lu Weizhu’s voice was filled with forbearance.

That forbearance only made Ning Wan’s destructive urge grow stronger.

She wanted to wipe out that forbearance, to make her cry out helplessly, to make her see her own weakness and inferiority, to completely break her. 

Malice was growing madly.
