“Let’s go.” Xiadam said with great enthusiasm.
In the end, I just can’t sit still. I’m really not suited for a reclusive life—I still have a heart that longs to save the world.
To the point that she forgot she was, in fact, weak as a kitten when it came to fighting.
That was exactly why Sheffield had just fallen silent.
But it didn’t matter. Xiadam was like a Dragon Breath Locator installed on her; she’d already left her scent on her.
Even though my current sensing range is only about a hundred meters, Xiadam isn’t limited by that. No matter where she goes, to the ends of the earth, I can always sense her.
And through Xiadam, I can also sense anything within a hundred meters around her.
In short, Xiadam was basically a Far-range Locator for the White Dragon King, Sheffield.
Because, despite her human appearance, Xiadam was actually a half-dragon girl.
If she ever encountered danger, Sheffield would know instantly and be able to rush to the rescue. So there was no need to worry about her running around.
“Doo doo~ doo~ doo doo doo~”
So Sheffield stood to the side, whistling without a care, watching the five-member team leave the little manor.
I’m a dragon, she’s a dragon, our bloodlines are intertwined.
On the surface, Xiadam remained cool and aloof, maintaining the bearing of a Mage, but inside she was grinning ear to ear.
It had been a long time since she had traveled the continent as part of a team like this.
The last time was when she was twenty, forming the Legendary Hero Party. Those were the happiest days of her life.
The five of us, shoulder to shoulder, fought from the eastern edge of the continent all the way to the far northern Demon Domain.
With the help and cover of all the warriors of the Human Race, we fought our way to the Demon King’s Castle, successfully beheaded the Demon King, and even managed to escape unscathed—a feat never before accomplished.
But when the Human Race was free of external enemies, the peace didn’t last long before a Civil War broke out.
It was from then on that I broke with the United Kingdom, and together with the White Dragon King, put an end to the Human Race’s Civil War.
It’s really something to sigh over, how quickly time flies.
Looking at these two young knights, she was reminded of her younger self.
She, too, had started out as a knight from a small village and step by step became…
Damn it, I’ve turned into a girl!
And now I’m a full-time Mage! Damn!
“Great Mage, why are you sighing?” The Priestess beside her seemed to sense Xiadam’s low spirits.
“Just thinking about some unhappy things,” Xiadam replied.
The three Vanguard Knights led the way up front, searching for the tracks they’d left on their way here.
It was by following these tracks that they could find their way back—fairly professional, actually.
Though the trail was a little crooked, that was probably because they’d been chased by monsters. Still, even while running for their lives, they managed to leave marks behind.
That took some skill.
After an hour’s walk, they successfully made it through the forest.
They hadn’t encountered any monster attacks—very lucky.
Xiadam leaned on her White Branch Staff and hurried out onto the open plain, gazing into the distance.
Not far away was indeed a simple camp made up of wagons and tents, though it was quite shabby.
Some women were hanging laundry in baskets, a few children were running and playing on the grassland—everything looked so peaceful.
But the plain stretched endlessly, nothing but grass as far as the eye could see.
No roads, no water sources. It would be very difficult to get supplies from any Human Territory town.
If they wanted resources, they’d have to go into the forest.
“Knight Captain is back!”
The old guard left at camp spotted the returning middle-aged Knight Captain and immediately called everyone over.
There were women, children, old knights who’d stayed behind—everyone came to greet the party, just as if they were welcoming Heroes.
But at the same time, they immediately noticed—why did it look like there was an extra girl in the group?
Cold aura? Fur coat? Totally doesn’t fit in!
“Everyone, we’re saved! We’ve found a reclusive Mage in the forest, and she’s going to help us!” The middle-aged Knight Captain announced excitedly.
At those words, everyone in the camp was stunned for a moment, then all put their hands together in prayer, praising the Nameless Hero.
The heavens never cut off a path for the people.
Xiadam stood aside, saying nothing, continuing to maintain the image of a master Mage.
Let the Knight Captain handle all the talking.
If I still looked like an old man, maybe I’d say a few words.
But with this frail girl appearance… I really don’t want to talk.
“This is bad, get the women and children to hide!”
Suddenly, Xiadam’s mind was struck by a sense of imminent danger.
The sound of frantic running erupted not far away!
The Pioneers looked toward the noise…
It was dozens of horned Demon Wolves charging straight for the camp!
“It’s monsters! Everyone, get ready! Women and children, into the wagons!” The Knight Captain instantly drew his sword and shouted out orders.
The camp was thrown into chaos.
The women pulled the children into the wagon beds to hide.
The Vanguard Knights spread out to form a defensive line, guarding every direction of the camp.
But the pressure was immense—there were so few people who could fight, and many were aging knights.
And the Demon Wolf Pack numbered more than twenty, swift and ferocious.
“Why did the wolves chase us out of the forest?” the Knight Captain cried in shock.
“They’ve come to avenge the Wolf King,” Xiadam said gravely.
It was probably because the White Dragon King’s intimidating presence was gone, so the Demon Wolf Pack had gone berserk.
She reached for the hilt of her Warrior’s Greatsword at her waist and drew it decisively.
But the heaviness of the Kingdom Knight Broadsword instantly pulled her back to reality.
This body just doesn’t have the strength to wield a broadsword.
Should I use Magic?
But the only thing I can cast is a bit of white mist—what good will that do?
“Trust me.”
Just as Xiadam was at a loss, Sheffield’s whisper came to her ear.
“Destroy.”
Xiadam trusted Sheffield unconditionally. She raised her White Branch Staff high and poured all her current Mana into it.
Uncontrollable, mysterious elements—formless white mist—instantly spread across the entire camp.
Seeing the Mage take action, the Vanguard Knights immediately relaxed a little.
They didn’t know what kind of Magic this was, but surely it was a miracle that would turn the tide!
But Xiadam herself was the most nervous of all, because she knew her own Magic was useless. It didn’t have any killing power at all.
“Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!”
In the next instant, the Demon Wolves’ horns fired off bolts of lightning, but they were all easily blocked by the White Mist Barrier.
It actually worked!
But there was no time to celebrate.
Though the Magic attacks were blocked, the Demon Wolf Pack leapt into the mist as if coming home—white mist couldn’t stop their deadly fangs.
At the same time…
Sheffield stood beneath the Magic Great Tree, eyes closed in deep concentration, slowly raising her hand toward the manor’s gate.
“Clang!”
A highly compressed White Dragon Breath shot from her palm.
Like a beam as thick as an arm, the dragon’s breath sliced through the forest, in a flash reaching the Pioneers’ camp on the plain.
“Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!”
Immediately, the White Dragon Breath split in the air, erupting into fine rays as thick as fingers, each one piercing a Demon Wolf’s heart with pinpoint accuracy—instant kills, all of them.
When the white mist cleared…
When everyone’s vision returned…
All the Demon Wolves besieging the camp had fallen, not one left standing.
