Lu Yunze glanced at his wound and let out a breath.
It was still bleeding, and the pain was intense—lifting his arm felt like a struggle.
What was worse, the Butler behind the stone pillar seemed possessed, raining bullets in Lu Yunze’s direction nonstop. One magazine after another, as if he was draining the entire Police Station’s supply.
Facing this storm of bullets, Lu Yunze was all alone, wounded, unable to call for help, and the enemy clung to him like a rabid dog.
Am I really going to die here?
Such a ridiculous thought flashed through his mind, and Lu Yunze let out a self-mocking laugh.
That disaster in his childhood had destroyed Lu Yunze’s family; he was the only survivor. For a long time after being taken in by the Luo Family, Lu Yunze had felt he should have gone with his parents.
Now, after so many years, facing death again, Lu Yunze still didn’t feel fear—just a trace of regret.
Luo Yao had cared for him so much; if she learned of his death, she would surely be heartbroken.
But that wasn’t the point. He knew Luo Yao was strong and would recover soon, and meet someone better.
What he couldn’t let go of was, first of all, that girl from the past. To this day, Lu Yunze still couldn’t be sure whether Luo Yao was the girl who’d once helped him, the one who became his unattainable white moonlight.
If she was, then Lu Yunze could let go of his worries, because Luo Yao was more than capable of taking care of herself.
If she wasn’t…
“I really want to see you again.”
He wanted to ask where she was, whether she was doing well, and if she still remembered that brief friendship from before.
And then, there was Jiang Sui.
He’d just promised to protect her, and now he was about to break his word. Of all people, he felt most sorry to her. After all the help she’d given, he’d still end up losing his life. Would she be sad?
Jiang Sui crying her heart out was an expression he simply couldn’t picture.
Rather than tears, Lu Yunze could more easily imagine her slapping his corpse, then scolding his incompetence and cowardice.
If he gave up so easily, wouldn’t he really become the coward everyone said he was?
Lu Yunze clenched his fist.
“What’s wrong, Young Master Lu? Not making a sound anymore?”
The Butler’s voice drifted over through the Black Mist.
“Didn’t you have quite the presence just now? What, can’t do anything without some furniture to throw around?”
He was still trying to provoke Lu Yunze, and in the current situation, it was clear he held the upper hand. If Lu Yunze dared to break cover, the moment he left the Stone Pillar, he’d be riddled with bullets.
It wasn’t that he had nothing to use. Lu Yunze subconsciously touched the pillar behind him, which extended all the way to the Ceiling several stories up in the Police Station.
This thing was far heavier than any sofa. Could he manage it? If he lost control, he’d be crushed before anyone else.
Lu Yunze’s heart pounded with anxiety. The gunfire and the Butler’s taunts were too harsh, making it impossible to calm down.
Until he heard that name from the Butler’s mouth.
“Don’t worry, Young Master Lu, you won’t be alone on your way. I’ll send that maid named Jiang Sui to keep you company. Aren’t you two close? It’ll be much better for her to watch over you underground than to keep clinging to the Miss.”
Lu Yunze lowered his head, his bangs hiding his eyes.
“Of course, you won’t reunite right away. I’ll catch her, bring her back, and after she learns what happens to those who defy us, I’ll let that ruined Maid join you!”
Crack!
Lu Yunze’s hand dug deep into the Stone Pillar.
He lifted his head, black flames burning in his eyes.
“You dare?”
“Hahaha, I’m much braver than a blowhard like you. Why wouldn’t I dare?”
In this Black Mist, the Butler’s position was almost impossible to pinpoint. Even in hand-to-hand combat, he could toy with Lu Yunze like a child.
The angrier Lu Yunze got, the more the Butler looked forward to dealing with Jiang Sui. He probably wouldn’t even need to use force—just tempt her with Debt Repayment and she’d obey.
The Butler was old, but still relished the thought of a young, cute Maid lying on the bed at his mercy.
Bang.
“Hm?”
With a strange noise, the floor beneath the Butler trembled.
What was that?
Bang.
“Hey, was that you?!”
The Butler hurried to change position. In this Black Mist, every sound he made would echo, surrounding Lu Yunze from all directions and making it impossible to pinpoint his location.
But any sound Lu Yunze made could be heard clearly by the Butler.
Bang!
Again—what on earth was happening?
A sense of dread surged in the Butler’s heart. He immediately raised his Automatic Rifle, aimed at Lu Yunze from the side, and pulled the trigger.
A torrent of bullets poured forth. Even after emptying an entire magazine, the Butler didn’t lower his smoking weapon.
Silence. No more movement.
By all rights, Lu Yunze shouldn’t have known the direction or timing of the shots, had no chance to dodge, and should have been riddled with holes.
It was over.
The Butler breathed a sigh of relief—then, in the next instant, his face froze.
Boom!
A tremor like an earthquake shook the entire Hall. Before the Butler’s eyes, the violently shaking Stone Pillar split in the middle, and a huge chunk floated in midair!
No, not floating—someone was carrying it. It was none other than Lu Yunze!
“Hm? Didn’t expect he had a trick like this.” The Black Cat narrowed its eyes.
“Yes, this is it!” Jiang Sui cheered beside him, “This is what I wanted to see!”
“Why are you more excited than I am?”
Jiang Sui just kept smiling sweetly, pretending nothing had happened.
With his arms as the anchor, the force gathered was just enough for Lu Yunze to lift it, but his face was flushed red, eyes bulging.
He channeled all his fury into strength and swung the massive Stone Pillar with a thunderous roar!
The Butler turned to flee, but Lu Yunze’s sweeping strike covered nearly half the Hall, with unstoppable momentum and nowhere to escape.
The pillar slammed into the Butler’s side, sending him flying like a baseball.
His body tumbled, the Automatic Rifle shattered in the process, and he only stopped when he crashed into the wall.
His already broken ribs were driven deeper, stabbing into his organs and making him spit out a mouthful of blood mixed with flesh.
Lu Yunze raised the Stone Pillar again. The Butler quickly began to beg for mercy:
“Wait, it’s my fault, I’m sorry, don’t kill me…!”
Bang!!
The Stone Pillar slammed down hard, landing next to the Butler and sending a gust of wind that blew away the Black Mist. The broken lights flickered back to life, and the Hall filled with brightness once more.
The Butler was stunned, mouth agape and speechless, only able to whimper.
Lu Yunze, after letting go, turned deathly pale, gasping for breath.
That took everything he had—he nearly blacked out.
Even so, he forced himself to look strong, approaching slowly and heavily.
“Tell me, who are you working for?”
He leaned on the Stone Pillar, warning the Butler not to make any sudden moves, or next time his head would be smashed.
“I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything…”
“Why did you attack the Maid? Are you involved in the Lan City Missing Person Case?”
“Yes, yes,” the Butler babbled, “They promised me benefits, said as long as I cooperated, it’d be fine. Losing one or two Maids is nothing, the Luo Family higher-ups wouldn’t even notice.”
“…” Lu Yunze took a deep breath, suppressing the emotions surging inside. “Then, was the strange man Jiang Sui met yesterday one of yours too?”
“Yes, yes, I wanted her taken straight away, but it didn’t work. To cover it up, they told me to get rid of her tonight.”
The truth was out.
He hadn’t expected the culprit behind the Missing Person Case to have reached into the Luo Family itself.
“Do you know anything more about them?”
“Yes, the Master didn’t say I couldn’t reveal that.”
“Who is the Master? Is he part of the group?”
“The Master, the Master is…” The Butler suddenly froze. “No, I… I don’t have a Master. We’re just partners, why would we call each other Master and servant? No, that’s not right, I can’t disobey the Master’s orders, I can’t question the Master.”
His words grew more confused, the Butler clutching his head in agony.
What was happening?
Lu Yunze frowned slightly.
“Right, I was supposed to attack that Maid tonight, and then, and then…”
“Young Master!”
At the sound of that voice, Lu Yunze turned in surprise.
Jiang Sui appeared in the corridor doorway, her shadow stretched long by the overhead light as she carefully surveyed the wrecked Hall.
“Jiang Sui, are you alright?” Lu Yunze ran to her at once.
“Yes, I’m fine. I was waiting for you in the Reception Room.”
“That’s good. Looks like I made it in time.” Lu Yunze finally relaxed.
“I didn’t expect Young Master to care so much about me. I’m truly flattered.” Jiang Sui smiled gently.
“Of course. I said I’d protect you, and I won’t go back on my word.”
As the two spoke, the disoriented Butler suddenly stopped moving, with only one thought in his mind:
Shoot!
It was the Master’s command!
The Butler pulled out his Handgun and struggled to his feet.
“Young Master, you’re hurt, aren’t you?”
“It’s nothing, just a scratch.” Lu Yunze still tried to act tough, though he could barely move his hands. “You being safe is the best outcome.”
Just like this, this was the best ending.
Lu Yunze felt a little dazed.
“Young Master, look out!”
With Jiang Sui’s shout, she shoved Lu Yunze aside.
Bang!
Lu Yunze watched as the cold, glinting bullet tore through the air in slow motion and struck her chest.
Crimson liquid blossomed across Lu Yunze’s stunned face.
“Jiang Sui!”
The girl’s body crumpled like a cut kite, and he stumbled to catch her, his fingers touching the hot flow seeping from her back.
What spilled from her wound wasn’t just blood, but her very life.
Lu Yunze could even feel the body in his arms growing cold.
“Protecting the Master is part of a Maid’s duty.”
Jiang Sui’s watery lavender eyes clouded over.
“You being safe… really is the best outcome.”
“How is this good?” Lu Yunze’s teary eyes reflected her fading gaze, his eyes rimmed with wetness.
With the last of her strength, Jiang Sui wiped away his tears with her bloody fingers.
It hurt, but that expression and those delicious-looking tears were a feast.
Unfortunately, before she could savor those tears full of regret and self-blame, her consciousness sank into darkness.
“Delicious-looking tears were a feast” XD
